Ilta runs back into Alex (Aria) for the first time since both disappeared from their world to the distant path. In addition, she makes Rivers' acquaintance and briefly sees Claire. Alex manages to convince Ilta to part with the set of daggers without asking for anything return. Alex and Ilta talk about the nature of their purposes in this world, and Alex attempts to get Ilta to follow her. Unable to fully trust Alex, Ilta declines for better or for ill.

Ilta goes on a quest to stop a beast who has been eating livestock in the Farmlands. She runs into Claire again, but also meets Kail and Shy as well. The beast turns out to be a poison breathing dragon. Shy gets hit by the gas but not before significantly weakening the beast. As Ilta takes Shy to get help, Kail delivers the fatal blow. Shy recovers with lunar drops from an older woman who lives nearby. Ilta, Kail, and Shy get a house to share as a reward.
