The King had reached out to Adrain in recent times about improving the security around the castle. The man was on edge after a number of incidents and who could really blame him. While the King's distaste for magic was well known, he at least saw value in it and benefit: after all he employed a number of mages in his service and at suggestion of a new detection system to catch intruders the King agree to at least a trial run of said system.
It was a complex idea, not one that could be acted on easily by the average mage in Noku's employ and setting it up would be a challenge even for the Headmaster. He would start at earliest light in the Castle and make his way through writing the details of the leylines, energy types and levels, and the mana densities of every part of the castle in painstaking detail. At first a few of the mages in Noku's employ would watch out of curiosity and duty, but as time went on the mundane but not mundane work began to bore and they were assigned elsewhere: it was fairly well known at this point where the Headmaster's loyalty lay at this point one would think. Not that escort mattered either way.
It would wane into the night as Adrain would traverse a dark corridor in a less frequently used part of the castle. It was still and quiet, yet the mage due to his typical insomnia and lessened sleep cycle kept working. He carried a tome in his left hand that Aria had given him for Midwinter while he held an array of crystals in his right, floating in front of him as he read the data, opening the book and writing information down, unawares of what may possibly happen in the dark of night.
