Sage sat alone in her office writing on a student's file for her records. "Moracie Grand, yet another hot head to speak to Adrain about." She spoke softly to herself as she wrote.
Moracie had been in her office moments before, but only briefly. Sage had done her tranquility spell on him to calm him down enough for authorities to escort him off of the Arch's property. He had apparently been in a relationship with a young woman by the name of Naomi for 2 years. From what Sage got from the situation, Naomi had cheated on Moracie and Moracie decided to take matters into his own hands. Moracie tied the other young man to a post and lit a fire underneath of him in attempt to do serious harm or worse. Luckily another staff member had arrived before the young man got seriously hurt.
Sage knew that going over her decision with Adrain was not necessary, due to the severity of the situation, but she would eventually go to speak to him anyways for his final approval. She still needed his signature on the document to make it official. Moracie's expulsion from the Arch would not, however, be the news of the week. There was no limit for what could go wrong at a magical school such as the Arch of Ages.
Being lost in thought, Sage jumped when someone knocked on her office door. "Come in." She looked up from her file to see a young woman walk in the door.
"Ms. Foster, I was sent here to speak with you." The girl was sniffling and her face was red with obvious lines from the hot tears that ran down her face. She wore a loose sun dress and her brown hair fell in curls around her face.
Sage closed the file on her desk and put it in the drawer beside her. "Are you okay? What is your name?"
The girl's voice trembled as she spoke. "Jade."
"Is everything okay, Jade? What is going on?" Sage looked at her with obvious concern on her face. "Jade, what is your last name?"
The girl remained quiet except to tell Sage her last name. "Byndi."
Sage opened her drawer of files marked 'A-E' and searched for the girl's last name. As she found the file, she pulled it out and began to look over it. The girl was a straight A student and had never had any behavioral issues in the past. In fact, she had never been in trouble since enrolling in the Arch 2 years ago.
Sage looked up at the girl who was still trembling. "Jade, you have to tell me what's wrong so that I can help you." She tried her best to look friendly and attentive to the girl.
Jade began to open her mouth to speak. As soon as she began, the tears began to flow down her face again. "My.. my father.. h-had an accident.."
Suddenly, Sage felt dizzy. The case that she had been dreading just walked through her door and sat down in front of her and she was not prepared. She had counseled children dealing with the deaths of parents before, but that was before she had experienced the nightmares.
Jade looked at Sage, her face having confusion written all over it. "I.. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have come here.." Jade got up to leave.
Sage took a deep breath and pushed her thoughts to the back of her head. She needed to focus on Jade and help her feel better. She held up her hand. "Wait, don't go. I'm sorry, I was just feeling a little off. You're father had an accident?"
Jade looked at Sage with a worried face and hesitantly sat back down. She then began to tell Sage about her father and how great a man he was. Then she explained to Sage what happened.
"Why did you go to class today after all this?"
Jade then explained to her that she had nowhere else to go. Her father was all that she had. She didn't know her mother or any close relatives of either parent. It was just her and her father.
Sage started to feel sad for the girl. After hearing everything she had to say, Sage allowed her get her emotions out. The girl cried for an hour straight and Sage held onto her as she did. When the girl had finally calmed down, Sage looked her in the eyes. "For tonight, we will set up a temporary room for you at the Arch. You may go home now and get what you need, but I don't want you going alone. I will have someone escort you. I will speak to the Headmaster later today to come up with a more permanent solution, but for now, this will do."
After speaking, a guard came in to escort the girl home. As soon as the girl was gone, Sage broke down. The tears flew down her face and she cried into her arms on her desk. She was sure that people in the hallway could probably hear her, but at that moment, she didn't care. The images of her mother and father's deaths kept running through her mind on replay, as if it wasn't bad enough that they played like movies in her dreams.
