Trial and Error [Serenity]

From the front of the Arcane Cross, a clanging sound can be heard over and over. As a hammer would be swinging down and down, as Kail was working on something. He was working hard on what looked like a sword blade and was in deep consentration. Since he was handling a red hot piece of steel. The blond was in protective gear to protect him from the sparks and other things. With each swing sparks would fly and vanish into nothingness. As it looked like things were good for him, since so far the blade he was making looked like it would be ok.  Kail had some ingots that were already in the shop. To test his luck on the matter he would try and forge himself a sword, it would look like a long sword without a cross guard. Since he was just seeing his skills on this matter, it would be rather basic. He had heat treated the blade and quenched it.  Then put it into a heat treating oven and would leave it alone for several hours and went to get a cold drink. He had been working on a small cooler. Opening it pulls out a cold pitcher of water and fills a large glass up and was now sitting in a chair to relax.  As making a sword was hard work.

Serenity approached the workshop. The last time she'd seen Kail, he'd said it was goodbye, after terrible things were said. She wasn't really sure why she was there, but she felt she needed to talk to him. She could hear banging from inside the building, and didn't just want to walk in, just in case. Serenity stepped forward to the door, and knocked three times. She hoped he could hear if. She not she'd have to walk in.

She wasn't sure if Kail was mad at her-- but to be fair, it should be the other way around. Serenity was hurt, but she wanted to see him.

Kail was resting for a second and he then hears someone come into the workshop. Out of the corner of his eye, the blond spots a familure redhead walk in. As Serenity walked in and he mentally sighed as he felt like he had kicked a love struck puppy. He gets up and takes off most of the heavier protective clothing and opens the door. "I guess we have a lot to talk about, please come in and don't go near the forge without me. I don't want you to get seriously hurt" he said and started to walk to his sitting area which was far back into the workshop. The blond knew he would have to renovate and add some kind of living space for a normal home. The sitting area had a massive sized couch, several chairs, and a coffee table in the middle. "I don't have much in food and drink to entertain guests. But I'll see what I can do, so please sit down" he said to Serenity.

Serenity nodded, and walked to where Kail had directed. I apologize Mr. Lancaster, for intruding. I know you said you no longer wished to see me. She looked at him, and say the pity in his eyes when he looked at her. She never knew how he saw her, but she was beginning to think it wasn't the highest of thoughts.

Serenity sat down, and waved her hand. Oh please don't worry about such things... You are correct, we do have a lot to talk about, but I fear you see me in the wrong regards. She didn't want him assuming she was pining, or hurt because she had feelings. She was hurt because she'd assumed them friends. Serenity fidgeted with her bracelet, spinning it around her wrist delicately.

It had seemed for Kail that there was misunderstanding on both of there parts. More so on him then the redhead head across from him as he sat down. "Do regret some of what I said that evening. As well as some of my actions. I doubt I will get forgivness for them but I am trying to be better. As saying sorry will not be able to heal this wound. You can see me freely as you like, but I will not step into that house. That is the truth" he said and then started to choose his words carefully. As he saw Serenity as a emotionally excitable person ".....I will say sorry though as you were not the target of my rage. It was mostly aimed at Rivers...but lashed out at everyone. Like a child having a temper tantrum, but if Rivers had not butted in like he did. I think things would have been different. But that's the past" he said and drank a bit more water and then continued to speak.

"...........Here is the bigger thing that might change everything. I know now that you have romantic feelings for me. I am flattered.....but I am not the mature man your looking for. I did not realize that my actions were making these feelings. I do not see you as some kind of toy or sex object to be played with. I do not hate or dispise you, far from it. I am not able to handle that kind of relationship or give you what you seek" he said and was being honest and the blond had hoped that he spoke the right words. Kail was right now not sure was having a silent plea to the goddess Ai. That he chose the right words to say on the matters of love. He did not fully bealive in the gods and goddesses of Nova. But right now, he hoped that someone out there would be merciful to him.

She listened quietly while he spoke, knowing that interrupting would only cause confusion. She could tell he meant his words- he regretted what he said, he hadn’t meant to hurt her. She didn’t like how he blamed Rivers, but she decided should would leave that topic alone— it wasn’t her fight.

Thank you for the apology Mr. Lancaster… I hope you understand why that hurt me so much. She stopped speaking again as he continued, blinking in confusion as he said “Here is the bigger thing that might change everything.” The words that came out of his mouth next caused a small feeling, like a sheet of ice, to sweep over her body. So she’d been more obvious about it than she’d hoped…

Serenity looked down, a side smile on her face, and touched the bracelet he’d given her once more. Kail… I hope you do not mind if I call you that, but formalities seem a little past us as this point. You are correct. I do have romantic feelings towards you— however, I have come to realize that my reasoning for feeling what I do- did, aren’t simply because of your actions. Sir, we are both from earth, dragged away and into this world. I am not sure about you, but for me, that single thing in common, is enough to want to be around someone. A connection to a home you can never return to. She shrugged sadly, returning her hazel eyes to look at him.

I can’t lie, I had a feeling you never really thought twice about me. Though it does me good to hear that you don’t see me as a toy, it would be a shame to have to harm that pretty face of yours. She smiled and chuckled quietly.

I do suppose you had assumed I would lash out— I am not stupid, I am aware that people think I am overly emotional and easily bothered… I’m not. Not anymore perhaps. Yes, things bother me, little things, like watching that woman warrior kiss you, or not hearing the things I would like too— but I’m changing… I’m trying to become better. I’m realizing that I don’t need a connection to earth anymore… I don’t need to cling to it, hope it will stay with me.. And by that I mean you. You, Kail… You are a wonderful man. Strong, bold and brave. Perhaps a little quick on your actions, but none the less, a fantastic person. She took a breath, feeling silly about her words.

What I am trying to say, is it’s an honour to call you a friend… And I’m sorry if how I’ve acted has pushed you away… I am aware now that my actions may have been too… forward.

Kail rubbed the back of his head a bit as he was not sure what to say to some of what Serenity had said. But he did chuckle a few times when she did give him some compliments. "Well from experience....most women would bite a man's head off at any bad news" he said trying to get a laugh out. "From what you said, to me already shows that you are getting stronger. Don't worry about it Serenity, so what are you going to be doing now he asked and got up and went to get the pitcher and another cup he had made and came back to the table and poured Serenity some water. He was curious since they were all trying to deal with the threat of Nova coming down on them. Or even Severine's vendetta against them the fated. The blond was already starting his path on trying to strengthen himself. Perhaps the rest of them in time as he wanted to make weapons to defeat there foes. "For myself I am already trying to forge a blade right now. I am heat treating it right now, I just hope everything works out" he said and if it was successful he would move on to other things.

Serenity chuckled Yes, I suppose that is true. Though, I'm not sure what I am going to do now... As you know, I am staying with Rivers-- though I'm aware on your opinion of that... She looked down, wishing she understood why the two couldn't get along. She thanked Kail, and accepted the water, sipping it lightly. I suppose I am getting stronger, though it's nothing commendable, I'm sure.

Serenity looked around the building, taking it in. She had to admit, he was doing great in this world. Making a home. You're doing quite well for yourself. Serenity smiled and gestured around the room. Look at this place, Mr. Lancaster. Look at what you're creating. It almost seems as though Nova were you're home now-- or that it was all along. She looked down. 


I mean, come on, you slayed a dragon, almost two-- not that I condone that last one-- and you jump at the chance for adventure. You're living a fairytale life, and I know you don't see it that way. Serenity shrugged. I know we're all in danger, and the circumstances could be better, but regardless of that, you seem to have a purpose-- and that's all one can ask for.

Kail had a hearty laugh "Yes well I aim to get better on smithing and using the forge there. Eventually I want to learn magic. Since its pretty needed in this world.....I wonder if I can get a spell book and learn some. I know a few, but I want to know more. Perhaps I am, but at times reality does set in from time to time. And it kills the fantasy sometimes. I've been trying to rekindle that zeal I had....perhaps I'll go and have a adventure out from Bane" he said with a grin on his face. He then looks over Serenity was thinking over something. She needed some kind of weapon to defend herself with. If he could find a stronger metal then steel but lighter. He could see the redhead wielding a rapier or estoc and would seem fitting for her. Plus of all of the magical enhancements she could land deadly deathblows. "Since I have this place now, do you want me to make you a weapon" he asked Serenity. Just curious if she wanted something like that or she was good with magic and use it as a self defense.

Serenity nodded, It seems as though we think alike-- I'm currently looking into how to use magic. Rivers gave me a book about an ice spell for me to learn, so that will be great... I think I may ask Roxy about fire magic... And well, to start myself off, I have a snow gem embedded in this bracelet, She showed him her left wrist, a silver bracelet dangling from it with a baby blue gem in it, the opposite wrist as the bone bracelet. And, I have a fire gem embedded in this necklace. She pulled out a silver chain from under her shirt, a red pendant hanging from it, swinging softly.

I'm hoping I can learn to protect myself with magic-- we all know how good I am with physical protection. Her tone was sarcastic, but when he brought up her wanting a weapon, she arched an eyebrow at him. Actually... I think that would be grand. Mr--- I mean Kail, I would love it if you could make something for me--- anything of your choosing, as I know you will pick something that would fit me perfectly. As you did with the bracelet. Romantic feelings for me or not, you do know what I like, and a little but of who I am. She teased him lightly, taking another sip of her water while holding back a laugh.

Kail smirked a bit "Well you were not the first one to do something like that with those gems" he said and went to a smaller table and came back with the dragon bone bracelets. Each one a gem in it or at least a slot to put a gem into it. "You can do some nice little tricks with weapons on a few of these gems. For you though, I would say use the fire gem for going on the offensive" he said and went to his backpack that came from his world. He gets a notebook out and a pencil and starts to sketch something on there "I know that you were from the upper crust of London. Did you take fencing lessons or watched others do so" he asked while continuing to draw something on the paper he had. Kail would try and work off something that Serenity had possibly knew. If a fencer sword did not work he would have to go with a short sword or smaller as a long sword might have been too heavy for the redhead.

Serenity smiled at the bracelets, I always knew you were clever, how else would you have thought of so many interesting things? I mean, that weapon of yours that you used was amazing! she beamed at him, looking curiously as he sketched something out.

I was never allowed to take part in such activities, my father.. well, allow me to say that he wasn't the most kind hearted of people.. I was never allowed to leave the house without him by my side. He always feared I would be taken from him. Needless to say, I didn't get out much until he died. Even then I never had time to take part in the activities, I had to take on the family business. Speaking of which... I wonder how badly that crashed and burned... Serenity sighed.

However, I can say I've seen someone train every now and again. Though it was quite a long time ago... She shrugged helplessly. Her former life hadn't been one of action, and it was just now that she was learning.

Perhaps, once it is complete, you can teach me how to use it?

Kail pondered a bit and figured it was better then nothing for the moment for Serenity. "I will try and construct one after that sword gets done. Which will take a few hours to do though from what I remember, off of the top of my head. I am going to have to do something special for you though. I am going to need more metal and other materials to make these things" he said and could restock on his spikes with the remaining metals he had. The blond was going back to his other thoughts on the materials. Kail was considering on adventuring outside of Gallows Bane and find a mine somewhere and buy some raw materials. He knew if he had found dwarves he would have to bring some good ale. To hopefully get a discount to get things cheaply. There was a small amount of frustration on Kail's face. He could possibly make a deal with Shy and Claire if they find any guardsmen, and they took there equipment he could smelt down the metal to make new materials. "I wish I knew more on this world....damn that Severine. I would have spent more time at that library on reading those books. I seriously want to end that woman with my own hands" he remarked and poured himself another glass of water.

Serenity nodded. Is there anything I can do to help? I know I'm not the most useful of people, but there must be some form assistance I can lend. She shrugged thoughtfully, finishing her water and placing the glass on the table. She knew that over time, she may become of more use to people, but for now it was a matter of learning what to do. She wasn't very resourceful on her own, she'd always had to rely on the talents of others.

There's not much going on back at Haven that I'm aware of, so i can stay longer if you require assistance. I mean, there could be something going on, but who would tell me? She laughed humourlessly. At the mention of Severine, and knowledge of this world, Serenity perked up slightly.

You're far more known as Fated in this world that I. My accent and hair do give it away, but until now I was hardly involved in this world. Would you like me to go to the library and get some books? It wouldn't be impossible. I'd simply have to hide my hair. And not speak...

Kail did think on what Serenity could do with herself while being around. "I honestly don't know....I don't think there is much for you to do around here" he answered then he hears Serenity say that she could try and sneak back into the city to get him some books. He shook his head a bit "Too much of a risk of you getting caught. I am sure there not going to send normal soldiers to hunt fated down. There more then likely use special forces now after that place went boom" he said and then goes over to his food storage area which was pretty far away from any of the equipment there. It did look like was running a bit low even though the place had been nicely stocked up. "You know what Serenity, can you come back in a few hours? I need to take a small nap. Plus you can see the sword that I made" he said to her.
