With an innocent look cascading over his tanned face he only shrugged in a "what-can-you-do" manner. " Good thing the only ear I lend this is your's. I feel her esteem will remain intact if one doesn't let such words slip. Even still, she knew what she was to me-a sweet dream for a night but nothing more." Jose watched her with the same innocent grin as she finished their meal and plated it before them. Grasping a fork he cut into the egg, the yolk spilling bright and yellow along the plate as he popped a piece into his mouth. " Mmmmm.." He let a sigh of deliciousness slip out, a noise of satisfaction from her cooking.
Looking as Serenity did he couldn't help the growing smile on his features, she always moved in ways of beauty even with a smile look and he relished her laughter. Head still propped up on his hand as it were, their gazes were about level and he met it evenly. "As outlandish as that idea could seem, we do have quite a lot of Gods mucking about Earthly affairs, who's to say this wasn't one of those times? The draw did feel a little otherworldly, I had thought you were a witch casting a spell if you recall. " His eyes twinkled in the morning light, and his face screamed amusement, as if despite his claims he found the thought of such a thing highly unlikely as well. " I'm still not certain that's not the case" He spoke, humorously.
At her jest he laughed and took another bite. " Oh well it all depends on the right gal, and I'll need at least a day to recover. " Jose chided her, as if he could dive back into his old habits after having something this good. " In all honesty? Probably a week. " The broad smile that split his face only lent to his joking image, his tone suggesting that he had no real intention of returning to such fleeting flings for some time. Not that Jose was interested in settling down any time soon, he just had the oddest feeling that another night with another woman would only leave Jose comparing them to Serenity and he knew that would take out half the fun. Go whole heartedly or else what's the point? That was Jose's ideals on the matter anyhow.
" And how long before you're on the prowl yet again?" He teased back.

I hope for her sake she does know. Women like her are so fragile it’s ridiculous. Serenity shook her head, cutting into her eggs as well, eating hers slowly so as to preserve their time together if possible. She hid a grin as he groaned when he ate; she got that from time to time when she cooked. She was definitely getting better at it.
Honestly, in this world I wouldn’t doubt it.. But I’m not from this world; why would the gods do anything for me? Aside from bring me here, which I still don’t understand why, but anyways. I’m not a witch, but my father used to say I was a Siren in my past life, though my mother said he was wrong, I was an angle in my past life, so who knows really. She shrugged, taking another bite.
Rolling her eyes at his comment she laughed. A week, how noble of you. And I was never on the prowl thank you very much. Had you not shown up, I would have enjoyed my drinks in peace and went home. She raised her eyebrow, sassing him lightly.

" I have come to the conclusion all women are frail in comparison to you Miss. Caine." His face still held a boyish grin to it, the morning light brushing his features with the sweet lullabye of golden and pure intentions. He may have flattered her before by saying like words but this tone was neither hindered by drink nor lustful wishes. It was a true answer, delivered as if fact and not some honeyed words.
Jose placed his fork upon the plate for now and interlocked his fingers bringing them over his head. He stretched for a moment, his sculpted body outlined by the same shimmering rays and he responded, lowering his arms. " Perhaps doubting the Gods' intervention is not the right assumption-they have crossed our worlds for a reason...or perhaps not, I cannot speak for them. " He shrugged " It would make an interesting ideal nonetheless." As serious as he setimentment began it swiftly sputtered to a dismissal; Jose could see a thing or two about the past and future but the nature of such things was not a mystery revealed.
An eyebrow was quick to raise at her next statement however, and his tone was only the slightest bit mocking. " So you believe in past lives but not the divine bringing ourselves together? " He chuckled a warm laugh and shook his head slightly, a few strands of hair thrown upon his face. Jose then threw his hands up in surrender at both her slight tongue lashings and his own, a grand smile adorning his lips.
" Enough jests, besides do you really resent me for disturbing such a thing?" He directed this to her declaration of independence against the company of others-her would have been quiet evening of lone drinking.Jose of course said this with full charm and mix of sweetness, reaching a hand to cover her free one. A more sombre appearance began to drip against his features, his thumb gently stroked the hand his own blanketed.
Jose had thought back to their night and beyond the haze of lustful deeds was a remembrance of the scars carved against her legs. He did not feel they marred her beauty or the moment in any way but it had made him curious, and that was something he did not like to be. " Serenity my darling, I do have an intimate question to ask, if it is not too much to inquire of you. " His gaze was even and soft as he took in her precious face, and if she were to give him the alright to ask he would question; " Although they do not darken my image of you in the slightest...how did you get your scars?" If she did not he would still his lips and pause upon that thought for the moment.

Serenity threw her head back in laughter. Oh please! You don’t know me at all! You’d be surprised. Memories flashed through her head from months before; Succumbing to drink when this world took her in, becoming a male play thing nightly when she found it the best way to make money, Kuro taking advantage of her and her letting him, hiding behind her bed when the Hunt started, crying constantly until Rivers found her… She was far from strong for a very long time. The very description of fragile. But she left it alone. He had framed her in an ideal and she didn’t want to break it over a silly comment like that.
I think one of them just got bored of the people here and decided to bring in more interesting people like me. She jested sticking her tongue out, implying he was boring. She took another bite of her food a smile stuck on her face. I do. Past lives in my opinion, help shape you who are today. We don’t remember it, and we shall never know it, but without our past lives we wouldn’t be who we are. Some say it was how we are raised, and that is definitely a factor, but what about when you’re on your own? What influences you then? But thats just how I see it. She shrugged, picking up another piece of egg with her fork, arching an eyebrow at him.
No, I don’t, but your confidence is blinding. Not that she could judge, she was just as cocky as he in the reversed situation. She just wasn’t used to someone being so much like her in that regard. She smiled as the warmth of his hand took over her own, making it tingle.
Soon enough her happy little bubble was popped as he asked the question she knew was bound to be brought up. She had given him the go ahead when he wanted to ask something, but she should have known better if she wanted to keep the visage up. A sigh escaped her and she put down her fork, removing her hand from his,
It’s a long story. When I first arrived here I was far from the person I am now, and I won’t go into detail on that, but it lead me to a point of desperation. I needed a purpose to be in this world, ripped from my own as I was. I didn’t know how to survive here. So when I came across a man so filled with determination and purpose, I pounced on him immediately, asking him to train me to fight, to let me help him on his mission- which was rather dark and I never should have agreed to it. He agreed of course, and lead me along but I needed to prove myself… So I did for the sake of needing to know my purpose- though I won’t lie, that wouldn’t be my first murder… but it was the first murder I’d ever committed with my own hands… She looked down at her hands in her lap, face flushed with emotion. We became a team, I was his spy, getting information for him any way I could, killing when he asked - there were four men in total. We slept together more than once, as I wasn’t only his spy, I was his toy- but I didn’t care. I was needed by someone… I mean, I thought I was. But one day I got to cocky with him, and I talked back, I didn’t want to clean up his mess and I told him to do it, and walked away… so he taught me not to walk away… he uhm.. he came up behind me with his sword, and sliced the backs of my knees- Tears welled in her hazel eyes, still looking down at her hands, remembering how many times she washed them.
Uhm. After that, he told me never to walk away from him again, and force fed me a drug so I wouldn’t feel the pain… He stood me up and tried to make me walk back with him, but even with the drug I wasn’t able to, so he slung me over his shoulder and carried me back to the Gallows Inn… It turned out the drug was a paralytic… so once he was done with me that night, and I had passed out from the pain when it returned, he left… There was a note, saying he would find me when he needed me… but he never did come back… She wiped at her eyes with the hands she’d been furiously staring at, making sure no tears actually feel from them, but refused to look at Jose for the time being. After a few more series of events, I changed how I was behaving and now I’m here. She looked up at him and smiled, returning her hand to her fork and eating more of her egg.

A more beaming grin was sure to radiate against his face, triggered by her laughter. " Or perhaps, I see through the veil with more clarity than most, hm?" He kept the whole idea on the matter upon a playful level but it was a truth he attended on the verge of knowing, and was thrown over the cliff of believing. If her strength had ever wavered in times past he would regard it as one would gold-malleable and shaken under pressure but never truly yielding and always coming up glimmering. A mental siren called from Serenity as she touched upon past events yet Jose did not peer into the quick flash of memories for it was far too swift of a passing. Regardless, he hadn't intended on prying and never really would upon Serenity if he could help it but he still held an overall negative disposition from that brief pull despite her displayed manor.
" Ha!" Was his clip of laughter for a reply but quirked his eyebrow with a grin at her childish retort of teasing. " I will concede that you are quite the wild card...whatever the reasoning may be I only praise their choice of entertainment." His face was still swept up in that boyish merriment as she continued on with her beliefs but it didn't appear mocking, considerate and amused was more of true description as he took in and mulled over her words. "I suppose you make quite the practical case there, but why is it we can't remember our lives of previous days? I for one am not privy to the past Jose's and move along by my own devices quite well...perhaps one must be open to receive in order for anything to come to pass, hmm? " He shrugged with her, not entirely invested in the idea but it wasn't in him to dismiss another's beliefs if he didn't hold the absolute opposing tide-which in this he did not.
He smiled largely as she commented upon his confidence and could not honestly fight her on this, he knew he moved through life with an over inflated air but he held it to his character, not against it. " Only blinding to those who witness it -apparently, I see things in crystal clarity in most ways." He picked up his fork again with his free hand and nibbled at the eggs peacefully.Jose was happy to see her happy but his own mirth dissolved as he watched her's crumble and a part of him felt horrid for being the cause of such a change but he had no right in comparison to her own pain.
As Serenity retold her travesty of a tale he stayed quite silent, that comforting gaze still fixed upon him, but he found that as she went on with every detail, the rush of memories were as real to him as they were to her, every bitter touch, every prick of pain as she relived it he did as well, too far gone to detach himself from the compelling of her mind. Jose's eyes closed in sadness as the whirlwind fluttered around his skull, a terrible headache beginning as free fist curled into a red mass and the one clutching his fork tighten as well. Her story had begun kind enough, it wasn't her underhand dealings that upset him so but the utter corruption she had witnessed and then had turned upon her. He did not recognize the man he saw within her mind but he was sure the image would forever be emblazoned upon him so that if their paths ever crossed again he would be sure to deal out his own brand of justice.
A clattering noise broke his quiet anger and the silence after Serenity had finished and his dark eyes opened to see her wiping at would be tears, the noise coming from the now broken fork he had cleaved in two within his grip. At times Jose forgot he possessed superhuman strength and though he usually kept a great handle upon it, when his anger bested him no silverware was safe apparently. He mumbled a quiet apology for breaking the fork but it a flat thing, silly to worry over that when she just bestowed much greater worries but it was the only thing he muster that wasn't soaked in a burning anger.
When she finally looked back to him with that smile of her's his heart nearly broke; here she was after such a horrible thing had shadowed her being-coupled with a looming promise of revival- and she was smiling at him, as if that had been a play she had watched and commented upon how tragic it was but that it was a good showing nonetheless. A quivering breath slipped through his clenched teeth and his hands unfurled as he made a vow to himself that he would put an end to Serenity's anguish that she tried to play off one of these days, but for now he had to let his anger go.
" Miss. Caine... Serenity... I cannot begin to relate, I am nearly without words...however, your strength does not cease to amaze despite your ideas..but know this; you will never have to fear from such a man or any like horrors again, not as I stand and certainly not as I am within your favour. I see you have come a long way from what once was, but never think it too bold to find comfort or even protection in me, if you should desire it." A light glaze of rage still veiled his eyes but his voice and expression was gentle in its execution, a sincere wish for her to turn to him if she ever needed the support.

Because, if we could remember every detail of our past lives, every time, why would we want to live again? What if our past life had it all, and your current life had nothing? You would spend your life wishing for something you never technically had, not in this life time. Some people may even wish to die over it. She mused lightly, rather happy they were debating over something so calmly. It was entertaining, yet also quite soothing.
The content feeling obviously didn’t last for long as she jumped into her tale of misfortune ; only one of many, not that Jose knew that. When she heard a snapping noise just after she finished speaking, she jumped lightly her eyes turning to Jose’s hand and her broken fork. Her story had angered him that much? When she’d told Rivers what had happened, sure he was beyond angry and wanted to find Kuro and kill him, but he remained calm for her. Or so she’d assumed. Jose looked like he was about to hunt him down, muttering a quite apology about the fork. He’s dead now. Or at least I’m fairly certain. An old friend told me she saw him participate in the undead attack, but no one has seen him since. He’s probably dead. She assured him, not wanting him to freak out. The smile was still on her face, but it had faltered slightly from the look on his face. If he was this freaked out, she didn’t think he ever wanted to hear her whole story… or know who she was in her own world.
When he began speaking, she leaned back in her chair. You’re very noble. I thank you for that. But I’m okay now. It’s healed with time, and it’s unlikely I’ll ever see his face again, so there’s nothing to fear, not from him. She smiled softly, wondering how much he was bottling so she wouldn’t see it.

" I suppose it depends on the person- I would think of it more as learning experience for even if my previous life was a better one I would have to wonder what I had done to deserve the life I hold now. It never does one good to yearn for what cannot be grasped but we should still strive for it... I think I would like to know whom I used to be, something to work from instead of waddling around. " He grinned playfully back, his ideal upon the matter nearly shifted. Serenity could be quiet convincing if she felt certain enough about one thing or another.
Of course such merriment was to be choked down as the conversation went darker, and a sheepish expression consumed the rage when she had jumped. He hadn't meant to frighten her or let her in on the deep seed of anger within but he felt he must protect her to such an inexplicable point even these past events stirred him up. He let it go for now however, no good to waste emotion on something he couldn't change and no need to dredge up the past again if it wasn't necessary. He could tell she was trying to placate him and that was of no good so with minimal visual effect he sucked back the anger and let the happiness of just being with her over take.
"You're far better than what you hold yourself to. Here you are, comforting myself as if such things had transpired within my own life. Truly Miss Caine you a wonder." A shadow of anger still ensnared his eyes but he shook his head with a warming grin. " I will say this however..." He took up her hand again within his own." If this man is not dead and I find him...he will wish he had been." Although his words were hard his voice and gaze had turned to honey, as if to convey he was settled down now but that this thing could never be forgiven. But I won't say anything else upon the matter."
" Well I am knight of guard my sweet fireball, noble is part of the character description." He chided " Yet I mean it for you with more sincerity than most, I know you say you're healed and there is nothing to fear but I will not retract my statement. If you need anything-anything at all I do beg you do not hestitate to call upon me. I would hate for anything else to marr such a beauteous creature. " With his free hand, the one not holding her's, he went to cup her face as he spoke, a soft gaze fixed upon him.

Serenity nodded along as he spoke, enjoying their debate. That is one way to look at it, but keep in mind, not everyone might be so stable about it as you. It could very well drive some people mad. What if you woke up one day and remembered that for some reason, in each of your past lives, you’d been murdered. You’d like with paranoia of it happening again, probably for the rest of your life. Serenity finished off the last of her egg, handing her fork to Jose to finish his own, seeing as he’d snapped his previous one in two. Don’t bend that one, silverware isn’t cheap. She smiled, clearly joking.
Serenity rolled her eyes. The past is in the past. If I let myself hurt over it daily, I’d be no better than what I was when he found me. Rivers had taught her that. He’d taught her how to be the person she was today, and as hurt as she was by his disappearance, she’d always thank him for that. If you find him, then go ahead, but don’t go searching for a presumed dead man, okay?
A chuckle escaped her lips, “sweet fireball”, this man never ceased to find a new name for her, and it was oddly entertaining. She leaned her face into his palm, finding the warmth soothing.Thank you Mr. Herrera. Should the need arise, I most definitely will. Serenity stood, taking her plate back into the kitchen, still within his view. She turned to face him, a sincere smile on her face as she leaned against the counter.

" I wouldn't say stable at all darling, twisted perhaps. For instance; I would relish in that paranoia for it would not only move me to live life with little restrictions being that it could end at any moment but I would have a hell of a time guessing how my end would come. Then again with my powers it would never be a mystery...I suppose it's all a matter of perspective. " As she passed over the fork he with a incredible ginger touch took it up, playing up his cautiousness for her amusement. Delicately he used the utensil for a few more teasing moments before reverting to normal and finished off his own eggs with a satisfied expression.
He took in what was becoming her familiar and trademark eyeroll with her words and although a part of him wanted to protest the majority found no fault and even praised her logic. Whether she had gotten to this turn of mind herself or by helping hands was of no concern to the man, just as long as she had gotten there and who was he to dispel all the hard work she had gone through? He kept his lips sealed on his desire to find this man and nodded along, quieting his vows for recompense. " You are quite right I suppose, please excuse myself it's just...a long with that pull you and I last spoke of there's something else...this intense need burning inside me to protect you, keep you far from the dark hands of anyone who tries to harm you...what danger there is I cannot say or even if it actually exists but all I know is the instance you are any way injured-physically or mentally- I feel I have to be there, to make it right and ensure nothing like that happens again..." As he had begun to speak his voice held a strong bellow to it, but as he reached the end his speech was soft and almost embarrassed, fearful that what he had said had been all a little too much.
Jose drank in her laughter and kept her image close, following with eyes her every movement."You best keep your word upon that, I mean it." He smiled back and got up to rinse his own plate as well but retook his stool at the table when he had finished. "So are you throwing me out to the wolves just yet?" He grinned wiry.

Twisted is right. Serenity agreed, laughing lightly. She shook her head, not having taken into account his powers. All well. She chuckled lightly as he was so careful with the fork, shaking her head slowly at his antics. What a fool.
Things got a tad more serious, and Serenity sat straighter with the change. That is very strange… Serenity smiled softly at the change in his tone at the end, her own face turning slightly pinker. How noble of you… though this pull business is weird… you don’t think it has anything to do with your abilities do you? Though why would it be affecting me? Serenity sighed, shrugging lightly. Maybe you killed me in a past life and are feeling the remorse of your past self, causing you to want to protect me. Serenity laughed, coming up with a bizarre scenario to lighten the mood again.
She watched as he stood, cleaning his own mess and sat back down. Something about this simple mundane act had her smile contently without even realizing. The wolves? Please. We work at the same place, the only wolf I know of is Aria. Serenity shook her head, taking a deep breath before standing and cracking her neck. We probably should be heading out soon. She doesn’t keep a strict schedule, but still. Serenity smiled and moved to a mirror to fix her hair.
