It was late and Garrett would be getting off his shift soon; and Aria sat calmly on his bed waiting for him to get back. She had a nice late supper packed up, along with a picnic blanket, plates, drinks, silverware, all stored in a picnic basket. Yes it was a bit late but she wanted to go out with him now that she was back on her feet. Hopefully he would be up for it; after all she did have a lovely spot picked out to go eat.
Aria was dressed in a simple short sleeve white dress that came to her ankles, and around her waist a purple sash. She was kept warm by a light grey knitted shawl. Her purple shoes kicked off at the edge of the bed. Yes her outfit was a bit chilly for the still spring weather; however with her shawl she was pleanty warm. Noky was tucked away with the other drakes, so she didn’t have him to worry about. She managed to make her way to Garretts room without incident. So that was a plus.
As she waited for him to come back to his room she plopped backwards onto the bed and spread out staring at the ceiling. A yawn escaped her; apparently the trip to the barracks and sneaking about was enough to still tire her out...and his bed was really comfy well… more with him in it but still. She stretched out with her arms above her head; and drifted off for a bit. She’d wake when Garrett came into the room. Then hopefully he'd be up for the picnic; after all she did want to do something nice for him. Especially after being stuck in the infirmary for so long.

Garrett was sore, tired, and slightly irritable after the long day of patrolling the lower districts of the Kingdom. He had been working non-stop since Aria’s birthday. Even when Aria was sick and stuck in the palace infirmary; The position of Civilian Guard Captain had the majority of his time taken up. Garrett had entered the barracks with a yawn. His feet feeling heavy with every step made towards his personal chambers. Once he made it to his bedroom door, Garrett stopped and glanced down. He noticed lights coming through the under side of the the wooden frame. Perhaps Aria had made herself at home. The only explanation he would have for lights being on in his room when he had been out for the majority of the day.
With a tight grip on the door knob, Garrett twisted the handle open and walked in. His eye meeting Aria’s figure who was laid out on his bed; Her attention looking else where at the moment. So while distracted, Garrett shut the door behind him and quickly rushed over to the bed. He was happy to see her out of the castle and feeling better. Or at least he hoped she was feeling better. He had been rather worried, he had never seen her this sick since… Well since back when they were children. It unsettled him to see her in any other condition than healthy.
Garrett stood at his bedside for about a second. Long enough for him to stare down at Aria, lean forward and flop down onto the bed. His body slightly on top of hers in a deadweight manner. His face firmly planted into the bedding sheets. “ Work sucked…” He spoke, his voice muffled into the blanket. “ How are you my love? Have you eaten? “ He asked, Unaware of the picnic Aria had prepared for them. " I can cook something if you like...Or what do you have in mind? " Garrett looked over at Aria, his muscles aching, but he managed to pick himself up and slid over to Aria's side.

A large weight suddenly plopped on Aria causing her eyes to snap open and attempt to sit up only to be pinned ”Happy birthday” A sleepy blurp came out before she fully registered what was going on. The features on her face went from sleepy to confused in a few seconds flat ”wait what…” She rubbed her eyes and turned her head to see her beloveds face; well ear….his face was in the sheets. A small grin spreading across her face ”good morning” Really wasn’t morning, but it felt like she had a nice nap. She reached over with her free hand to stroke his hair; really not minding at all that she was pinned beneath him. She ran her fingers through his hair a few times; something she enjoyed doing, it seemed like it was getting longer. Even now she could probably put it into small braids. As he rested for a bit, she wondered how late it was. She hadn’t meant to really fall asleep while waiting, and really had no clue how long she had. Though even it had been a while the food would still be warm. She had put a couple of heating charms on the container
Poor dear looked exhausted; hopefully he wasn’t too tired for what she had planned…it was confirmed as he mumbled into the sheets. Causing the smile that had been on her face turn into a small frown. ”What made it more suckish than normal?” His work certainly had some major suckish duties to it. He certainly worked hard; it was probably worse now that they were down one major captain.
She sat up as he moved; moving herself behind him where she could give him a shoulder massage. ”I’m feeling better; getting my strength back after being cooped up so long.” She’d been out of the castle as soon as they had let her, and her trips out were getting lengthier. She leaned forward and gave him a kiss on his cheek, as he went on to ask if she had eaten and then offered to cook and such. Even after he had a long suckish day. He truly was good to her. ”No dear, I haven’t eaten. I was waiting for you….and actually I wanted to surprise you with a beach picnic tonight….but we can eat it here instead if you like?” She had intended on bringing him to the island…via the portal. But he looked tired, and it did involve quite a bit of a walk. Perhaps another time then… After all she wanted to surprise him with the home she hoped they’d be able to share. She had it built specifically in mind to hopefully suit both their tastes.
”I did bring the picnic basket with me, so it really wouldn’t be much trouble to change plans.” She did mean it. After all this was a surprise meant to be nice for him. She still had the nice dinner and dessert after all.

Garrett heard the ‘Happy Birthday’ and continued to lay still with his face buried within the quilt. He kept his emotions hidden, but he had completely forgotten he was another year older. Time had slipped him when it came to his own day of birth celebration. A weak smile, crooked in bits of shame out of sight for the time being. However, Aria’s fingers running through his hair made it difficult to keep such thoughts at the forefront of his mind. His normal relaxed smile returning while he turned his head to look at Aria when she asked how his day been more suckish than normal. His smile quickly turning into a frown and his lips pouted out. “ Good morning to you mostly sleepy head. “ He spoke in a playful banter tone, acting as if mopy that she had slept.
“ There is a lot of things changing in the guard lately. With Roland Walker in the dungeon awaiting some form of answer be it by trial of freedom or gallows, the soldiers are becoming restless. A lot of things have been happening lately in the Forever Forest that my men have been reporting seeing. So my soldiers are just a little uneased by the thought of Helena returning to start what she didn't finish. Just a lot of low moral over all.... “ Garrett sighed, picking himself off of Aria gently and sitting up on the side of the bed. A small smile present on his features as he listened to Aria give the news of her feeling much better. A good sign and one he was thankful for. “ I’m glad to hear you are doing better, I wish I could've stayed by your side during that time.. However, thy duty calls to serve the kingdom before thy self. “ He sighed heavy, feeling bad that he couldn’t of visited more often when she was sick. The quick kiss on the cheek lifting his spirits as Garrett’s gaze followed back to Aria. A brow quirked when she said she hadn’t eaten, but had prepared a picnic for them to have at the beach as a surprise.
A blank expression shown on his features while he stared directly at Aria. A long awkward silence followed as he remained staring at her with his raised brow.
“ I see…” Garrett finally spoke out, sluggishly picking himself up off the bed and walked over to the baskets. “ Well then, I guess I better get out of my work clothes.” He smirked, walking away from the baskets over to his dresser. He stood there for a moment rummaging through his clothes to find something warm to wear this evening out. Then finally once he found something, he stripped and began hastily getting dressed.
His attire mostly of black and greys in color, a light grey long sleeve shirt with a black leather vest top. Along with Black pants and matching black leather boots. Once dressed he turned to look back at Aria with a faint smile. “ I’m all yours for the night hon… Plus you had gone to all this trouble. Well, I still don’t know what beach and what you cooked, so I still say it’s a surprise that can be carried out..” He chuckled, lifting his hand and pointing to the door with his thumb.

”Sorry, I didn’t mean to fall asleep again.” She gave him a sheepish smile, even though she had taken a nap earlier that day. It hadn’t been exactly restful. Then she had spent the rest of it running around to prepare and cook everything. Aria listened quietly as he explained what was going on in the guard, a thoughtful look on her face. ”I actually feel bad for the grumpy guard; he asked me to check on Aveline for him. But I fell ill, and her mother said she was being isolated….” A frown and a slightly murderous look flinted across Arias features as she thought of that lovely little tea visit. She had investigated what was in the tea, and the results were highly disturbing. She should probably tell Garrett about it….but frankly she rather it not set a sour tone to their dinner. She had ruined enough dinners with her little news bombs. This one could wait. The whole forever forest activity was concerning; she hoped the solders fears wouldn’t come to fruition. ”What sort of activity has been going on?”
Aria pat him on the head as he expressed he wish he could have been with her more; she understood he had work. He did certainly spent as much time with her as he could, and she was happy for the bit that he did. She leaned forward and kissed his forehead. ”Its fine sweetie, I was out of it for the most part anyways. I did have other visitors to so I wasn’t alone for the most part.” She shifted uncomfortably as he just stared at her when she mentioned she hadn’t eaten and had a surprise. Did he not like the idea? She really hoped it wasn’t going to be too much trouble for him. Arias face fell as he dragged himself out of bed, a little mini panic crossing her features. It was too much! ”Garrett we can stay in, really I don’t mind. You’ve been so busy lately..” Aria’s trailed off as her reasoning was momentarily distracted as Garrett removed his clothes. Ohhh it had been a while; a blush crept across her cheeks as she realized she was staring. She looked down at her lap; if she kept looking they definitely wouldn’t be leaving the room….When he was dressed she found him equally as handsome. Though where they were going he’d bit a bit warm, but if she told him that now it would ruin the surprise.
She hopped off the bed and slipped her feet into her shoes. Repositioning the shawl around her shoulders. A smile on her face as he said he was all hers. She walked up to him and threaded her arm through his, resting her head against his arm. ”You are too good to me” She looked back to where she had the basket and pointed to it. It rose into the air and floated to her. Taking it with her free hand she motioned that they could go. A large grin on her face; for once she had a surprise that actually would turn out well for her man. Well sort of….even if he was exhausted. But warm salt water did wonders for muscles. Aria lead the way; heading in the direction of the Royal Beach. The air here was a bit nippy; but being close to Garrett kept her warm enough. ”I hope you’ll like what I made; I spent most of the morning collecting the ingredients so it would be fresh; along with cooking it for the rest. I’ve made appetizers, a main course, dessert, and even some drinks.” The food was going to be nice, but the surprise was really the thing that would blow everything out of the water.
She led them down a trail to the beach, but before getting to the water took a side trail that was hidden by brush. The side trail wrapped around the cliff side and eventually opened up to a small clearing that was also a small ledge of sorts. The ledge was not quite at sea level, and was high enough too avoid splash offs from when the waves hit the cliff below. One could walk to the edge of the ledge that was on one side and peer over the edge to a small enclave a good thirty feet down you could see the tide wash into the small cliff face. A watery run off that formed a small water fall from the top of the higher cliffs above and to the tide below. In the middle of the clearing a stone gazebo sat, its walls open to the fresh sea air. The ground surrounding the gazeebo was still grassy, with lilac bushes that hugged the stone wall of the cliffs. So the area was not quite on the beach as she had first said…in fact on the side that the ocean sat, the view was blocked by large boulders. However this wasn’t the final destination Aria had planned…but for now she’d act like it was.
She led him up the stone steps of the gazebo, the large mother of pearl lotus flower that was inlaid in the floor seem to glow in the moonlight. The floor itself was a work of art, as it was also mixed with small turquoise mosaic tiles. In the middle of the flower itself sat a large sapphire; which refracted the light of the moon. It was at the center in which Aria paused. ”Isn’t this place lovely? Nice and secluded; Noku let me have this gazebo built here.” She would allow him to look around for a bit, maybe question it a little. A sly smile on her features the entire time. ”He also let me add one little other thing….Which will take us to our destination or at least close to. Warning you may be just a little bit warm” Aria didn’t wait for more then a moment before speaking the key word to activate the portal. ”Rak’Teska” One moment they were in the secluded nook, and the next they were high on a mountain top.
They now stood in an identical gazebo only miles and miles away from where they had stood. A warm tropical breeze hitting them and a memorizing site before them. From that spot they could survey the entire crescent shaped island. A path lead from the gazebo and into the thick foliage of a jungles trail, the path lit by all flower potions hung tastefully as lanterns. Another trail branched off to lead down the steep mountain path to the docks below; this path was lined with stairs to make the trip down easier. But down by the docks they could access the east side beach of the island. It was there that Aria planned to have their picnic. A small rest before making the trip to the palace on the other side; which currently was barely visible on the other side of the island.
She took a deep breath of the fresh warm air, before turning to look at Garrett with a large smile. This island was her real surprise for the evening. ”Welcome home Garrett….or well at least I hope you’ll call this home with me.”

Garrett couldn’t help but stare. ‘his is certainly amusing.’ He thought to himself at first while he listened to Aira speak. Her first response was her apologizing for doing something he expected, or at least rather assumed she would be doing this late in the evening or perhaps early morn for all he knew. Garrett could only quirk a smile when she apologized for falling asleep and continued to smile as her expressions changed from pure anger to concerned then to panic. If he didn’t know any better, he swore the woman was broken. A small chuckle escaping him as he stood before her.
“ First off, hon, You shouldn’t have to apologize for something that is natural.I’m glad to see you are sleeping, I was worried you were not getting any sleep with me not around as much. “ He nodded, scratching the back of his head. “ As for the guards and what's happening over the Forever Forest, it’s rather puzzling and slightly disturbing to think about. I’ve sent several of my men into the forest to investigate the situation. However, none have returned. I haven’t had the heart to ask for volunteers yet; though I feel Breton is on the verge of forcing my hand to send more guards out to….who knows what kind of fate….” Garrett sighed, not rather fond of talking about his work though rather concerned for the well being of the civilians if whatever was going on in the forest was a threat.
Garrett took a deep breath and quirked his lip to make a smile. “ We can discuss that later, I’m glad you had visitors and were not alone the whole time. As for your indecisiveness woman, I told you the night is yours.” Garrett chuckled, his smile warm as she approached as threaded her arms around his. Once he felt her arms latch, he gave her a kiss on the forehead at the ‘You are too good to me’ praise and followed her out the door. At first however, he thought it was rather odd she didn’t bring any type of lantern or light to illuminate their path. Rather odd to be walking out in the middle of the night with nothing to help guide the way .but Garrett trusted Aria’s vision and keen ability to lead them there with no problems……
Okay, once they made it to the beach area he was beginning to wonder where this she was leading him. Once they past the beach area he remained silent the entire time, observing the path and the area around them for a possible lead on where their ‘picnic’ would take place. By now he believed Aria was either not telling him they were lost or the surprise was still up ahead.
After walking several minutes, the moon being their only source of light the entire walk there. To his surprise, she lead him straight to a Gazebo. A gazebo out to itself, in a rather secluded location where no one else was around. Beautiful, with what he could see illuminated in the pale white light cast by the moon.
He walked with her until they got up to the gazebo. There he stood, taking quick glances around the place in wonderment. "Glad the moon is out or this picnic would be rather hard to see. Also glad we didn't fall or get hurt coming up here." He smirked, making light on the fact they had made it out here without a light. He was about to take a seat when Aria spoke up. His lips pressed tightly together in contempt, not sure if he was pleased to hear Noku would ‘give’ Aria something out of the kindness of his heart. He listened to her all the way up to the point she mentioned ‘a bit warm’. Warm? The hell was she talking about~
Before he could even question her. Suddenly Garrett felt himself being pulled from where he was originally at. One minute he was standing back at what he thought was the picnic spot, now a fucking island?! “ AHHHHHHH!” Garrett screamed, unsure what the hell that had just happened. His eyes wide and his heart pounding in his chest. Did they just teleport?! Where the hell were they?! Garrett was wide eyed at this point. His chest expanding up and down from taking in deep breaths of air to calm himself after bursting out with a scream. He stood for a second making no sound, still slightly shocked at the magic that was used to bring them…. Wherever they were at.
“ The Hell. Oh go-” Garrett managed to speak before feeling his stomach toss and turn. He could feel himself becoming motion sick and moved off quickly to the side of the gazebo; where he promptly threw up a bit over the side within the grass. After spitting out the gunk in his mouth, he became more relaxed and not as panicked as before. “ Well that's embarrassing.” He sighed, smacking his lips in disgust for having vomited. He looked beyond the gazebo down at the island below, the warm breeze feeling good against his chilled skin from having walked outside in the cold night air back in Nova. His eyes blinking in amazement; at what he could see from the gazebo. His eye taking in the entire scene as he heard aria say ‘Welcome Home’. He turned to look at her, shock still present on his features as he looked at her blankly.
To call this place home…. Together? Garrett stared at Aria for a moment, blinking a few times before giving her a smirk. “ Our home? You own this place? “ Garrett asked looking around at the gazebo, putting them both together in his mind before quickly returning his attention back to Aria. “ Noku Helped you with all of this?” He questioned, still taking in the beauty of the island even under moon light. His mind racing in concern, yet his questions were that of shock. Realizing he had not answered her actual question of wanting to call this place both their home. He calmed himself and took Aria’s small hand within his. Not wanting to worry her any longer he spoke very softly. “ Of course, if this is where you want to call home; I will live with you here. “ He smiled, bringing her hand up to his lips and kissing the top of her hand lightly.
“ So lead the way. You know this place better than I at this moment. “ He chuckled, lowering her hand and returned to just holding it out at his side.

”They drugged me enough that I slept more or less; apparently during the riot in the third district I tried to escape to help. I don’t remember it but according to the healer I inched wormed out of the door completely stuck in blankets yelling ‘I got this’” Aria listened to Garrett as he went on to explain; if the issue was in the forest…then perhaps she could assist her beloved. ”Maybe I could actually be of help in this situation; after all if it’s in the forest I have more potential eyes there than anywhere else. Inconspicuous ones as well, which sounds like something you need now if someone’s targeting the men you send. At the very least we can try to track down where the men went and what happened.” She reached out and squeezed his hand. After all his worries were her worries; she didn’t want him to bear it all alone. Plus his worries were more than concerning; either way she’d be sending a couple of eyes out to go look. She nodded and squeezed his hand again when he said they could discuss it later. Tonight was meant to be enjoyed after all.
A smile only grew on her face as he kissed her and they made their way out the door. To her as they walked she could see everything clear as day. Her eyes had adjusted as they always did to accommodate the lack of sunlight. She hadn’t said a word leading up to the path; and she gave Garrett credit he was not prying or questioning where the heck they were going. When they got to the gazebo she watched his reaction carefully; hoping he would like the location. She had done her best picking out the spot; and thought she had found a rather good place. Things seemed to be going well until ‘glad the moon is out’ at which Arias face fell and her eyes grew wide. ”I COMPLETELY FORGOT PEOPLE NEED LIGHT!” Ok it had been a LONG time since Aria had brought anyone out on a night adventure. Well that was one detail she had certainly overlooked. Aria quickly hopped over the edge of the gazebo and allowed her dagger to slide from the marking on her wrist and into her hand. She walked up to a lilac push and sliced a small branch covered in fragrant blooms. She let the dagger absorb back into her hand before placing her palm over the blooms. In a short moment the flowers were giving off a bright light. Aria having placed a light spell upon them. It cast a radius of light 20ft in every direction. Once that was complete she went back to Garrett and presented him the flowers. ”I’m so sorry; I can see perfectly fine in the dark, I forgot not everyone can. Why didn’t you say anything earlier?” Garrett would indeed notice now in the light Arias eyes reflected back giving them a bright eerie green glow like any other animals would.
She had noticed his expression changed as she mentioned Noku had let her build the gazebo; was he bothered by that fact? She would have to remember to ask him about it, but first. The teleport worked wonderfully. Adrain had done a good job; she looked about the island as they appeared there before turning back to see Garrets reaction…A look of pure panic spreading across her face as Garret let out a loud scream. The loud unexpected reaction causing Aria to jump. DID IT HURT? Why was he screaming?! Aria froze completely at a loss of what to do. ….and there he went puking over the edge of the gazebo. Good thing they hadn’t ate yet…. Aria’s face at this point was full of concern. ”Oh my…. This surprise for you isn’t turning out like I hoped it would….I’m so sorry” She walked forward and ran her hand over his back trying to calm him a bit. ”You didn’t freak the last time we were suddenly dumped in a random place by teleportation, I didn’t think it would bother you this time.’ Usually it would bring her joy to see someone freak out do to a prank or surprise such as this; but that certainly hadn’t been her aim with Garrett. She stopped rubbing his back for a moment and placed down the basket; opening it up and pulling out a small cup made out of smooth green stone. Taking out a leather flask and opening it to pour some of the cool liquid into the cup. She closed the flask and but it back in the basket before standing back up to hand Garrett the cup. At least he seemed to have stopped panicking enough to begin to enjoy the view. ”Some sweet mint tea I made this morning; it’ll get the taste out of your mouth.”
The shock hadn’t completely subsided as he turned to look at her after she had welcomed him home. His concern once again showing up when he asked of Noku had helped her. ”Well procuring the island was all me to begin with. I had found it during a long distance flight exercise with the drakes while in Palico. I did research and found the island unclaimed by any territory. I had already begun my claim on it before coming back from Palico. You see…. Me and Silas…. We do not get along well. There was also the stipulation when I was made a duchess that I was not to own any land belonging to Palico. When I got back to Nova, I approached Noku with a proposition; a trade agreement. A portion of the produce and such that this island produces would go to Nova in order for the island to be protected under Nova law. Noku agreed; and Lucinda loves the island and is more than happy that I went ahead with this. So yes, Noku did help with securing the island along with permitting the portal to be built. So he does know about it and I did have permission. Honestly I’m shocked he agreed to the portal; I promised him it would be in a secluded spot. But anyways, the buildings and such however was purchased by me….I have told you shortly after being fated here I took over the Correspondence Guild correct? That along with the salary I have been given as head dragon trainer for the Palico army, has been profitable.” The whole correspondence guild thing was not something she told many people, if any at this point.
”…Your expression changes every time Noku is brought up…. I know we haven’t talked much about him.” Was he concerned Noku was like he was in the past? She was also growing a bit more concerned as he seemed to avoid the question of wanting to call this place home with her. Her worries were shortly set at ease as he took her by the hand and finally said he’d live with her here. A large grin spread across her face as she bounced up and down in excitement. She paused in her jumping for a moment to kiss him on the lips. Picking up the basket again and leading him off the gazebo and onto the dirt path.
”Oh I do hope you’ll love this place as much as I do; I tried to design it to suite both of us. We’re a bit more on the wild side; but on the other side of the island there is a place that is built for us that I think you’ll find quite comfy. Of course I haven’t had it decorated fully; I wanted you’re input on things. Anything you want to add please tell me. I want this place to feel as much yours as it is mine.” Aria pointed down the dirt path that lead into the jungle, the path was illuminated by all flower potions, lighting the path up perfectly. ”I remembered light there! But that is the shortest walking path to our home. Not really short, but the walk is amazing. When you’re not as tired I’d love to take a walk down it. Right now we’re on top of the highest point of the island. If you look down this side”
Aria brought him around the gazebo and pointed down a long winding path that traveled straight down the steep mountain side. ”This path leads down to the docks; this is how most guest will get to the island. I’ll be having a couple of smaller canoe like crafts built as a way to get over to the beach that’s right off of our home. There is a large reef on the west side of the island, so the waves on this side are not large what so ever. A small watercraft would do fine there. The dock extends out past he reef for larger ships. The west side of the island, is mostly made of cliffs, there are caves which makes it a good nesting ground for drakes. During the winter months the waves are fairly rough; however during the summer, though they are still large, the tides recede back further and some beaches open up on that side.” Aria was more than sure Garrett would explore on his own as well when given the chance.
”Oh before I forget, the way to activate the portal is by saying ‘Rak’Teska’ which is a word in elvish is like welcome home or going home…one of them. Either way, stand in the gazebo like we were and say that and you’ll be ported off to both places. I figured if you did agree to live here a quick way back to the castle grounds would be needed. To make it more convenient I may train a couple of drakes to be able to take people back and forth; that or some other animal that can fly if you’d like. That and if the situation called for it I could always take you back and forth if you needed to get over fast.” She didn’t really know how Garrett felt about the drakes. If a flying horse would make him more comfortable she would see about getting one of those. Yuki had one and it was quite nice….she supposed a little less scary then a fire breathing lizard. ”I figured before asking you, work may be a problem for you living here; so if you wanted I could rig up something to at least get a signal of some sort from the barracks to here if you were needed.” She really had tried to think of what she could to make the island a home for him as well. That included thinking about his work. Aria let go of his hand for a moment to pull something out of the cleavage of her shirt, it was a set of silver keys with a blue and red gem fitted into each ornate handle. ”These are your set of keys to our home, the first one opens up the main doors, while the rest would work on any room in the house.”
She kept calling it a house, though it was really a palace. But hopefully that would be another surprise for him. She did after all try to make it so she combined his taste for the finer things with her love for the more outdoorsy stuff. But now that those formalities were taken to at least give him as much access to the house and what not was taken care of; they could start to enjoy their picnic. ”Since I’m not about to spring another mode of transportation on you by surprise; would you rather walk down the path down to one of the beaches to eat before we go to the house; or I could yank out one of those big ass bax leaves and float us both down to the spot using the levitation spell? Your choice.”
