Spring Entrance Exams and Fair(Week after Trial, Yuki, Open)

It was a long promised day at last. The Arch of Ages spring entrance exams. Outside the front entrance to the Arch of Ages, a fairground of sorts was manifested. Not only was the Exams a part of the academic process. Students vied to have their ideas presented on display for patrons and customers, ranging from academic theory to selling food and potions to providing various kinds of entertainment, all based on something magic or mana related.

(ooc note: to faire goers you can sort of say almost anything within reason is happening of interest, to list out a comprehensive amount of these sorts of things would be prohibitive and inhibit creativity or interest)

At the testing grounds, a large field was cordoned off for the primary exams. A tent was set up for the written exam, watched over carefully by Junior Professors to make certain no cheating was happening, while the proving ground was in the center first and foremost. Senior staff sat behind a table with Mage Guards to their back, while the headmaster's podium was in the back on a raised platform with a few seats for the Headmaster and esteemed guests under a canopy.

Mage guards accompanied by golems patrolled the fields to keep the order, drunks and belligerents would be warned and then ejected via teleportation to the outside of the grounds with a temporary mana mark that keeps them from returning. For the time being, the entrance exam students would be gathered inside for the written portion, which takes place before the Proving Grounds half of the exam.

Yuki had arrived early for her exam Aolani was with her in the straddle bags was a small box wrapped in a light blue wrapping paper and another was a potted plant with flowers pink flowers in bloom. She had decided to bring Adrain’s present with her since she had finally gotten them and wanted to give them to him either before or after her exam. Looking down at her outfit she realised that she stood out a bit because of how she was dressed. It a simple spring dress with two layers. The under layer was white with the bottom three layer ruffled over top was a layer in light green with flowers and vine designs it had a simple straight neckline not dipping down too far on her chest going down to her waist are three cream coloured bows. Her sleeves had a simple criss-cross design and at the end of the sleeves was a light white see though ruffle. To complete the outfit, she wore white stockings with a simple pair of black chunky heels with a small black bow on the top. Today her hair was brushed straight resting on her back, her hair ribbon tied under her hair making a small headband with the bow resting on the right.



Leaving Aolani’s side she walked around in awe looking at all the mages this place was magical in all sense of the words. She watched some students were using magic to entertain people some creating fire dragon displays and out using the magic to create lovely displays. After walking around for a bit, she asked where she needed to go for her exam thanking the mages she made her way over. Taking a deep breath, she walked into the tent where the written exam was to be held.



Her nervous starting to get to her as looked around at all the other hopeful, from their clothes she could tell that everyone was from the different social class of life. She recognised a few other nobilities and nodded her head to them wishing them good luck. Taking a deep breath, she walked up to one of the junior professors. “Uh… Hi, I’m Yuki D’Avranches. I’m here to take the exam.” Her fingers were fiddling with her sleeves, showing that she was nervous and maybe stressing a bit too much over something that she had studied and practice.

Kaguya had gotten the information on where the Arch of Ages would be from Nyx after her foray into this new world. She did a few quick odd jobs around Gallows Bane to get herself some quick cash for a horse and some minor provisions. To make her way to the mage's school as that was the best place to try and improve herself. On the way there though it had been a rough ride and had made Kaguya slightly eratible. As she got close to the Arch she had heard that there was some kind of fair going on which brightend her mood. That was until she heard shouting and saw two scrawny young men about her age running away as copper golem was chasing the two. The two teens were yelling that they screwed up on there fair project as there golem had activated wrong or they screwed up. The pink haired girl sighed and got off her horse and threw a very large and heavy rock at the thing. Getting its attention and it did. Plus make a nice sized dent into the construct, the being taking Kaguya a bigger threat charged her. There would be a smirk on her face as the golem threw a punch she avoided the punch and grabbed the arm using both her magicly enhanced strength and the momentum of the punch. Kaguya threw the golem over her shoulder and slamming it into the ground. That throw did take a lot out of her and was on the ground.

But knew she had to quickly get up before the golem got moving again. Kaguya rolled over to get on top of the golem kneeling up she focused again and slammed her fist into the golem's chest. Finding its power source she got it from sensing its mana and ripped it out like a still beating heart. To the amazement of the two young men and some of the mage guards hearing the comotion as Kaguya had taken the thing out. "Owch damn it that hurt.....and I broke a nail. Someone is going to pay for this...." she said as her right arm was slightly cut up. As some of the metal had cut her as she went through the golem's chest. One of the guards went off to find the head master. After awhile the guard ran up to Adrian. "Uhm sir.....we had a slight insident, one of the first year golemmancer's projects went out of control. It was contained and well it was stopped by a young lady. She ripped the mana core out with her bare hands. What do you want us to do" the guard asked. As a situation like this never happened while this guy was on the job.

[Nyx]

Nyx had been in her tent telling people their love fortunes when she heard the commotion happening outside. Quickly finishing up she summon her wings grabbed her staff and flew out towards where the issue was first she saw two of her students running from a golem rolling her eyes wondering if they did not pay attention in her self-defense class to not be able to stop a do anything but run from they own creation. She was going to step in when she saw a pink haired female decide to do the job for her and proceeded to rip the power core out of the golem. Pinching the bridge of her nose as she flew down, folding her wings on her back as she walked up Kaguya happy to see her minus fact that she was bleeding.



Pointing at her students. “Kyle, Mark go to the healer’s tent and get one of them here. NOW!” She said barking orders she saw a few guards heading their way. Taking Kaguya’s hand she switched from speaking Novaian to Japanese as she slowly started to take some of the metal pieces of her hand. “Hoshigane-san it is a pleasure to see you but did you have to get hurt.” Sighing as she waited called one of the guards closer knowing that some of them kept bandages on them in the case of something like this. Holding on to staff she summoned her water bubble and use washed away the blood as she grabbed the bandages from the guards and wrapped bandages around her hand. “This will hold for now till a healer can see so your hand. Now, what are you doing here I was expecting you a few weeks ago. Today is the day of the entrance exam for the school and a little fair to show that magic isn’t all dangerous.”

Kaguya winced slightly but this was not something that was not unsual at the moment. Getting cut up or getting the snot being beaten out of her. She hears a familure voice speak up as she turns to Nyx flying over, the former hunter just rises her eyebrow a bit. Then Nyx walked over and spoke her native tounge again. "I needed to do some odd jobs to make a journey over here since there aren't any cars or anything like that. Plus the person I was working for threw out his back, so thats why I am late. When I left he was doing tons much better" she said and watched as her hand got bandaged up. Then hearing about the entrance exams and the fair. The pink haired girl blushed slightly as she did not mean to cause a problem for the people and or staff of the Arch. ".....er.....I hope I did not cause too much trouble" she said and then saw in the distance a lot of the tents and such. As well as music, people laughing and carrying on. As with a good time such as a fair going on. Perhaps this would ease some of her mind of the loss she had of her world.

The moderator outside the exam tent smiled as Yuki approached "Welcome Yuki, I'll mark you as present on the exam roster and show you to your seat inside. Don't let the process intimidate you or anything, its just a small bit of work to make sure you are versed in the materials of the Arch."[/b] he says, leading Yuki inside to where a number of students were already taking an exam. A clear spot on a table with a wooden chair beside it is where Yuki would be led where a multiple page document would be placed down along with writing materials.

"Good luck." the moderator says as he leaves Yuki to the task. Yuki looking around would see a few other mod7erators keeping vigil over the integrity of the test, but it was likely not something she would have to worry about unless she decided to cheat. The exam itself was straightforward to the last page, likely easily answered since Yuki seemed to be studying quite a bit. The last five questions might require more thought, all in essay form.

47: Identify at least six of the elemental circle interactions of where the varying elemental manna hold domain over one another.

48: What are the possible consequences of too much mana being used or gathered in one place in a short period of time.

49: What is the difference between using Glyph magic and non Glyph magic?

50: Identify what a mage can do to make a difference in the community they reside in the event of a natural disater such as a wildfire or earthquake.

51: How would you improve the acceptance of magic in the culture of the world outside the Arch in broader society?

"...What do you mean a golem went loose, all golems are supposed to use Alpha Mana Cores, they shouldn't have the energy to do anything more than move at a slow walking pace if they deviate from their programming." Adrain says, looking alarmed and annoyed. He was inside the building going over a checklist of things related to the fair and the upcoming trials by applicants to enter the academy. Before the guard could answer, he teleported outside in a flash of purple light, looking for the disturbance.

At this point, the medic would get to Kaguya and when she allowed them to, begins to swiftly heal the cuts and damage along her arm with a warming light coming from their hands.

Adrain makes his way over to the golem and looks at it, his gaze turning to a scowl. His gaze turns to the pink haired woman whom Nyx seemed to be acquainted with. Was this another girlfriend like Lucifina? Hardly a matter really. He looks at the core in Kaguya's hand most likely and stares at it for a second, a rage faintly visible in his eyes. He calls one of the guards over for orders.

"Find Freshman Andross and bring them to me. He used a Gamma tier core for the golem when the regulation for this event allowed only Alpha for safety reasons. He's going to have some explaining to do, because it achieves the exact opposite as intended to have a golem on a rampage and terrifying the fairgoers." he says. Once the guard was sent on his way, he exhaled and approached Kaguya, bowing his head slightly to her, looking her straight in the eyes despite the fact Kaguya had a very curvy body.

"I understand you stopped the golem. I thank you for doing so and I apologize that the situation happened in the first place. The golem was overcharged due to an item being used that it wasn't supposed to have. I am Headmaster Kaiaru, I see you are already acquainted with one of the Instructors here."

Some of the nervousness melted away from Yuki hearing that it was just a simple exam to confirm the knowledge that she already had. Nodding her head, she followed the moderator and took a seat, before even starting the exam she carefully wrote her name in elegant cursive script. As she began reading over the question, for the most part, all of it was easy minus a few questions that were trick questions and made her think for a few moments. As she coming to the end of the exam she notices that the questions were beginning to get more difficult and required longer answers than expected.

47. Six of the elemental circle interaction. One of the interactions is when fire and ice are used in a spell, at this point the fire mana would be more domain than the ice one. During the casting of spell that requires the need of nature where water and earth are needed at this point the earth mana would be more domain because of the earth absorbing water mana. Two elemental interactions that re normally not seen are the ones that involve holy and demonic mana, with this one by logic the holy mana should be more domain when it depends on the person. In this case, the more domain of the two would depend on the individual and what is in their heart. During the interactions of snow and storm mana as found in some mana gemstones when these two interact together it is often by common misconception that the snow mana is the domain one when it is the storm and all we are seeing is the aftermath of the mana working together. Last but no least is the interaction of fire and dark mana in these cases the mana that is domain is the fire mana.

Looking at question 48 she had to think back to some of her conversations with Adrian and he commented on the fact that she wasn’t eating. Thinking hard upon the conversation she remembered that he said using too much mana can cause a mage who are on the heavier side to shrink down.

48. If too much mana is being used it can cause the user to suffer from mana corruption which can lead to the death of that person.

49. One of the differences is how the spell is performed since glyph magic uses symbols compared to those that require hand gestures or spoken words. Another different that is most important is the amount of mana a person must use to perform the magical spell, with Glyph magic it requires less mana and doesn’t much strain on the body or mental state of the person compared to other magic.

Looking over the last two questions Yuki just smiled as she started to think about how the world might be if a natural disaster was to happen and mages were more accepted.

50. During a natural disaster such as a wildfire mages who specialise in water magic or even storm magic can use they magic to put out the fire before it causes any damage to any of the towns that would get caught in the inferno.

51. Since I am of noble birth I would use my connections and my knowledge as a mage to slowly get magic more accepted within the courts even if it is one person at a time. Another thing would be helping those I encounter in they everyday lives with the new skills I will learn here at the Arch.

Quickly Yuki went back over her answers making sure that she answered all the questions once done she raised her hand to let the moderator know that she was finished with the written part of the exam.

Nyx nodded her head as she listened to Kaguya as she explained why she took so long to getting to the Arch of Ages. Looking around she noticed that the healers had arrived and moved away to give them space to do they work as she continued to talk with Kaguya. Even with the golem having gone on a rampage everyone had moved on going back to enjoy the fair which was good. “It’s okay if anyone has cause trouble it is the student that built that thing.” As soon as Nyx said those words she heard Adrain voice sending one of the guards to find the student.

“Good Day Kaiaru-san.” Bowing her head to Adrain and giving him her utmost respect since they were in a more public setting and she didn’t want to seem rude as she switched back over to the Novaian speech. “This is Hoshigane-san she hails from a country like my own in culture, though I still disapprove of her method for stopping the golem. Then again what am I to expect from someone who is from a culture so alike to my own.” Nyx said as with pride in both Kaguya for being strong enough to take on a golem and even rip out its power core but also proud to know that even in another world her culture was still strong and didn’t become weak.

Kaguya let the healers do there job on her hand and was thankful for that. As she was tended to she heard a very commanding male voice issuing commands. She turns to see the man and give him a quick once over. The young lady saw that he was wearing higher end robes as the designs and such were really high quallity as well as the material of the fabric. What raised her eyebrow was the fact that this guy had white hair. "Eh.....force of habbit, even though I should be more careful with myself. I am not as strong as I use to be, before coming here" said Kaguya and was thinking of what she was going to say Nyx spoke up. "Yes, well anyway my name is Kaguya Hoshigane a pleasure to meet you Sir Kaiaru" she said and gave a small bow to the man. As she gave a greeting and introduction in a bit more western in style then from her country or world.

"I think Nyx might have mentioned you off hand and well in irony your kinda the man I needed to talk to you about a few things. Also see anything you like" as it seemed that this man was in charge of the school. She also added a bit of humor to cut some of the edge a bit. Since it felt a bit stiff in her opinion but what had happend was serious.

"I see..." Adrain says, then a bubble of sweat seemingly going down the side of his head after Kaguya introduced herself and made a slightly promiscuous comment about seeing something he liked. His eyes shifted to Nyx with a deadpan expression. "Right...I'd swear you two were sisters if I didn't know any better." noting that there were a fair number of similarities between the two in body type and behaviors. He exhaled as he then noted that Kaguya said that she had some things to talk about with him.

"Yes...I think I can see where this conversation is going, along similar lines as Lucifina's situation?" Adrain says, shifting his glance toward Nyx.

Once Yuki had finished the exam, one of the staff takes it and grades it, using a spell to quickly look at the information and then grade it with swift marks. Only the forty-seventh question was marked as wrong, leaving Yuki with a grade of a 98%. Once this was done, the instructor looked back at Yuki once more.

"Very good, you will be part of the next group to do the practical exam which will be in a short time when the Headmaster and other senior mages are prepared for the next round. A voice will boom over the faire when it is time for the next practical exam to begin."

"Huh......seen too many busty girls lately" Kaguya joked and could feel him sighing in his head. Which made the pink haired girl laugh a bit seeing that he was getting overweilmed. She then got serious "Alright, look I got transported to this world when mine was ending. From my world, I was a soldier or hunter.....not sure what the best term would be for you to understand. My job that my government asked me to do was to hunt down and take care of monsters, evil mages, demons, and other such things that would harm my country. But since coming here, most of my powers and magical abilities are gone" she said and gave a small pause for Adrian to try and prosess everything. Before continuing this conversation since this was going to be slightly long. Since there was a lot for her to say to this man.

"When I first got here I met Nyx and after a bit of talking she mentioned this place and you. Anyway....I would like to join arch as a student or something like that. I want to get stronger since this world is now my home and eventually my brother might come here. Since he opened a portal to another world, so I hope he followed after me. I don't have a lot of money for a entrance fee or tution to get in. But I can trade perhaps my services, since well you saw what I did to that golem there. Sorry for the long winded speech here" said Kaguya as she made the offer to this man. She understood that he could turn her down. And hoped that she could control herself, since she did not know where else to perhaps go. Since she barely understood this world in general as it was super alien to her. Kaguya only understood somethings from media stuff such as games and anime. But that was about it for her.

[Yuki D'Avranches]

As she waited for the instructor to mark the test she felt her heart racing wondering if she had gotten less than a passing mark. Hearing that she would make it to the next part of the exam she breathed a sigh of relief and let out a small happy squeal. Nodding her head hearing the next round would be in a short time she thanked the instructor and ran off to find where she had left Aolani quickly finding her horse she hugged her and told her the good news even if she couldn’t understand her. Aolani in turned tapped her hoof twice on the ground and blew some air into the little human’s hair. 


“Aolani, since we have some time we should go find Adrain and give him the present,” Yuki said as she doubled checked the saddle bag that the tree and the small package was still there. Seeing that there were both still there she hopping onto the horse’s back and they took off into the sky and flew since it would be easier to spot Adrain if she was above the crowd of people.



She soon spotted Adrain with two other people one being a pink haired female and the other being a white-haired female. From her height in the sky, she saw what seemed like a golem with a hole in its chest landing just a small way from everyone she walked Aolani over to them. “Good Morning Adrain,” Yuki said smiling brightly. “Good Morning everyone.” She said in turn to the two females.

Nyx laughed a little when Adrain said that he would have believed that she and Kaguya were sisters. She did see it a little in how they both behave but it was funny to think that they could be passed off as sisters. She did shake her head went he asked if the conversation was going to be similar to Lucifina since she remembers that Kaguya wanted to enrol at a student compared to Lucifina who just needed a place to stay for the time being.



She allowed Kaguya to explain herself before adding in a little bit of her own. “I was hoping that she would arrive at least a week before the exam so I could help her prepare for the exam.” She said but she did know that they would be limits if Kaguya took the exam today since she didn’t get much time to prepare for it.



She was about to say something when another female voice cut in that was almost happier than her own. Looking up she saw a young female with blonde hair on a horse with wings, as the female got closer Nyx noticed that she was reminded her a little of herself and Kaguya in terms of looks when it comes to racial background. “Good Morning Miss. I am Nyx it is nice to meet you.”



Nyx said greeting Yuki as she got off the horse, Nyx watched her as she opened her saddlebag and took out a pink tree and a small box. Her eyes widen a bit as she saw the tree that Yuki was holding it reminded her of the sakura trees in her world but on a smaller scale.



Yuki smiled as the white-haired female greeted her once she had gotten the tree out of the bag she returned the greeting. “It is lovely to meet you Miss Nyx. I am Yuki.” Looking up at Adrain she smiled brightly as she took her time walking over not wanting to trip with the plant in her hand. “Um… Adrain… I got this for you. It’s a Satsuki Azelea bonsai I’m sorry it’s a bit late but I wanted to get you the present for mid-winter.” A small blush rose to her cheeks as presented the plant to Adrain not noticing the way that Nyx was looking at the plant.

"I see Kaguya, I'm sure we can work out some sort of arrangement for you to live and learn here for the time you should see fit. Just understand that you will be still responsible for your own actions and I strongly reccommend that you keep the fact that you are not of this world to yourself due to certain...stigmas...that those that live here may feel. I understand the struggle of fated and I wish to make a place for those who can learn to live as contributing citizens whether as a student or working in the town or the upcoming Port I intend to have constructed." he says.

As Nyx spoke he shrugged. "It wouldn't be fair due to the structure of the exam and her recently arrived condition. The student I am most interested in passing has had months to prepare, for Kaguya to try to pass in a matter of at best hours since I can only assume she hasn't been studying the Novian magical texts since she arrived it just wouldn't happen for the written exam. It will probably have to be structured as an apprenticeship of some sort, we can figure it out after my duties are completed." he says, then hearing light footsteps as Yuki approached.

He nodded his head at Yuki in greeting and looked at the offering, smiling as he looked upon the plant and accepted it gracefully. "Thank you Yuki, it is lovely. Don't worry about the timing, the fact that you thought about it means a lot, I know I've put a lot on your shoulders trying to prepare for these exams so your time has been stretched thin I know." he says, then as a Horn and Bell could be heard in the distance.

"That is the signal for the next round of the Practical Exams.." Adrain says, as the voice of one of the exam moderators booms above, announcing that the Practical Exams will begin in fifteen minutes. "You'll do great Yuki, just don't psych yourself out." he says, touching her shoulder lightly with his free hand to console her.

"Kaguya, Nyx, I am needed to oversee the Practical Exams, join me if you wish but I must depart from this spot now." Adrain says, walking toward the Practical Exam grounds, approaching the pedestal where his seat was and sitting down, kneeling forward with his chin cradled on top of his fingers.

The Practical Exam would have three mages go before Yuki. One, a female, conjured an exotic dance and array of fire magic forming what Nyx and Kaguya may think of as an oriental style of magical display as the orbs and flames rhythmically glow hotter and shift to a grand dragon before exploding at the end.

The second mage was a male, he was plainly nervous as he tried to concentrate and held his hands together as Earth magic would begin to swirl, forming a wall around him. The nervousness causes him to lose control however as the rock walls violently explode and launch at the crowds, but a powerful barrier would halt the shards before any harm could happen.

The third would be a light mage, a female who held her hand out and formed a powerful beam of light that would launch at stone targets that were conjured for her, shattering four but not destroying the fifth before her.

At last...it would be Yuki's turn. The elder mages, Adrain, and the crowd would wait for her to enter the barrier and any accommodations she wanted for her display would be made by one of the moderators such as targets or structure.

Kaguya was thankful for what Adrian had said to her and gave a very polight bow "Thank you very much for your charity on this. And I will take this time to learn more about this world. As well as other things to help with my adjustment to this world. This will be something I will not try and squander at all" she said as the pink haired girl saw that this man again had some tremendus power and sway. "I understand you have your duties to fulfill, so please go" she said and felt slightly bad that she had caused a slight sceen. But she got some stuff done at least, since she now had a roof over her head at least. Plus Adrian was right, it would at least take her a few months or more to understand this world and other things. A week would have not been enough, even though she could cram it all. It might have been a bit sloppy. Besides now Kaguya would have enough time for her to learn more stuff or at her own pace. Perhaps one of the few things she would be aiming for, would be some clothes for this world. To at least fit in with Nova in general, since she was sticking out like a sore thumb as one would say.
