"Hold his legs down!" The 4 foot something male shouted at some frightened people nearby. He gripped the shaft of the arrow with both hands and snapped it off, greatly reducing the overall length and stuck it length-wise into the man's mouth. Nearby the sounds of a small skirmish raged on as Adkir fumbled for a vial of liquid he had in a pouch. Once he had the vial, he placed it between his teeth, then used both hands to hold the man's torso still and push the broken arrow the rest of the way through. Soon as it clattered to the ground, the vial was in his hand and the cork was being spit out of his mouth. Adkir quickly dumped the grayish liquid directly onto the puncture wound, then told the man he'd be fine, at least as fine as you can be for meatball surgery. Standing and moving quickly, Adkir retrieved his Axe from the ground and left to join the now melee outside. The battle was dying down thankfully, the farmers having overwhelmed them from sheer numbers.
A couple Orks had descended upon the small hamlet, and were currently engaged in combat with several of the farmshands. By now there was 2 left, but one had a pitchfork buried in it's belly. Not one to let his villagers fight, Adkir sprinted towards the nearest group, his axe held in one hand and his shield slung over his shoulder. He shoulder-checked the not-currently-dead-yet one and got his foot caught between the Ork's legs, sending him down to the ground as well. Having just ate a belly full of dirt and rocks, Adkir released grip of his axe and scrambled to mount the Ork. Having thrown a handful of dirt at the Ork, he closes the short distance and delivers a straight line punch, straddles the torso, and gripped the Ork's skull in his hands, shoving his thumbs into it's eyes. The Ork let out a blood curdling screech but was soon silenced by a large claw strapped to a wooden handle was thrust into it's neck. The scream was replaced by gurgling and frantic clawing at it's gaping wound as Adkir stood up, still standing over top of the Ork.
Taking several deep breaths, Adkir looked over to one of the farmers. "Any wounded?" The farmer shook his head in response. "Get the bodies out and burn them. I'll pack up and head off. I've got a schedule to keep."
After checking up on the man who had the arrow in his shoulder and gathering his weapon and his chest of potions, he went to exit the small hut. His eyes went white and his body seized up, his muscles tensed up. Soon as his vision cleared, he doubled over, dropping to his knees and falling onto his wooden chest he had been carrying in his hands. His body felt weird. Not only just physical pains, but something just felt....off. He didn't feel like he had the connection to the natural world that he had moments ago. Adkir sat there, breathing heavily trying to quell the shaking and twitching his body was doing. His entire chest burned and his stomach seemed to shrink, followed quickly by a nice "healthy" vomit. There were some remains of this morning's rabbit stew.
After taking several minutes for his chest to go from a raging fire to smouldering embers, and for his body to finally stop it's shaking, he looked up and tried to find out where he actually was. He was on a raised platform, surrounded by a shallow pool of water and a number of steps in a couple directions. No one seemed to be around. Slowly, Adkir pushed himself up to his feet, unslung his axe and gripped it with both hands, looking around and taking stock of the situation. He had his battle gear, his box of potion stuff, and that's about it.
(I kinda rushed the last half of the original battle. Not really happy with how it turned out but whatever.)

Post by Nyx on Jan 24, 2017 21:12:18 GMT
Nyx had been in Bane for a few days since her last visit she never stopped ignoring her feeling when she feels that she needed to return to Bane. That day the feeling felt stronger so she summoned her fate strings eyes as she walked with her staff. Walking down the path she notices that a bright white string was bringing her towards the fated alter she knew that it meant only one thing if the string was leading that way a new fated had arrived. As she walked she wondered what Fate might have brought this time to this world she did hope it was someone from the world similar her own. With those happy thoughts that happily skipped towards the alter in her short pink mini skirt and the black halter top that had a low v-neck showing off the valley of her chest. That day her hair was brushed into light silver waves down her back.
Upon reaching the alter saw a dwarf, like honestly of all races it had to be a dwarf but she wasn’t going to complain it come have been someone from her world that wanted to kill her. “Well hello there.” She said flashing a bright smile as she walked towards the dwarf her tone of voice being friendly and nice. “Give it a few moments you will moments the magic here will help you understand me.” Nyx said slowly so that in case he didn’t speak the same language as the one spoken in Nova.

His body ached and his head was throbbing as someone spoke. He spun towards the, admittedly pleasant, voice with his axe still gripped in both hands. Confusion was the word of the day, it would seem. First he was fighting orks who were being bested by random farmers who had to fighting experience, which in and of itself was a weird thing. Then he ended up blinded and in an immense amount of pain, found himself in Who-Knows-where, and now some woman who was more than 2 feet taller than him showed up. She was dressed fairly nicely, meanwhile here he was wrapped in dirt-caked furs and leathers, bones and claws and feathers dangling from the pendent's cord around his neck and smelling faintly of ork and sweat.
He didn't know how to feel about this whole thing. Did someone find some arcane way to teleport him from where he was to here? Was this some new big baddie that brave adventurers would soon be going after? That's gotta be it, right? Maybe the gods wanted to stop this woman's rise to power, so they sent a suitable hero to defeat her before she got strong? No. That can't be. The Divine speak to the hero and send them on a journey. At least that's how the stories go. He lowers his axe slightly, lifting the business end so he could insure the Ankheg mandible is still attached securely as the woman spoke again.
He only caught the last half of what she said, not because of any apparent language barrier (which if he were smarter, he might have picked up on) but because he just plain wasn't paying attention. He looked back up at her and, still unsure about this entire everything, asked the first question that came to his mind. "What happened?"

Nyx gave the man a few moments to get settled but seeing that he didn’t put down his weapon she decided to take a seat on the floor, carefully she placed her staff on the ground and push away from her to show that she meant no harm. Plus, she didn’t want what happened when she first fated over to happen with this man and they end up getting into a fight. Hearing his question, she had to think for a moment on what happen since there wasn’t any clear-cut answer for that question. “Well at the best I can tell you that you are not in your world anymore.” Giving him a few moments to soak in that little bit of information.
“I guess we should start with introductions. I am Nyx, I am like you not from this world. The God Fate brought us here for a reason no one knows the reason. Where we are now is a haven for those like us. This place is called Gallow’s Bane that is a location in a kingdom call Nova.” Taking a deep breath Nyx would listen if the dwarf decided to tell her anything. During this, she would take the chance to give him a full look over as the Fate’s Strings started to flicker out of her vision. The dwarf wasn’t her complete cup of tea but she did have to admit that he looked good with the fur and leathers he was sporting. Upon closer inspection, she notices that he wore a necklace of bones, claws, and feathers it reminded her of some the old books she read where heroes would take tokens from they kills she wondered if this dwarf was from a world like that.

"Nyx" He mutters absentmindedly as she introduced herself. Most of what she said he more or less ignored. Not because he was being rude but because it didn't make sense to him. It sounded like a bunch of Greek to him. And he doesn't speak Greek. Or even know what Greek is. But I digress. He relaxed as she appeared to disarm herself, moving his weapon to one hand, the mandible-turned-weaponblade resting on the ground with his hand gripping the leather-wrappings of the shaft. None of this made sense.
"Sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo." he states, looking around him. No one else showed up, thankfully. Adkir wasn't a religious individual. He viewed himself as one of nature's protectors. He's never needed to bother with the thoughts of Gods unless he was retelling a story he's heard elsewhere. He wasn't in the mood to argue to question it, though. For all he knew, this woman was being honest. Or maybe she's just a very talented Lich attempting to lure him into heresy. "Does Alcohol exist here?" He asks, looking down at his chest, using a foot to nudge it away from his...ahem....mess.
He didn't even want to know because he wanted to go get drunk. He just wanted to know if he needed to fashion a brewing kit or not. "Is there someplace more...." He started, looking around at his surroundings again. He began to shift his weight between feet and his free hand came up and idly touched the carved bone with inset uncut emerald he wore. He was becoming ancy "green? More plants, less stone." He couldn't help but notice the impeccable craftsmanship around him. Even if you forsake the stone homeworld of a dwarf, you retain your latent abilities with stonework. But being so far away from soil and plants made him....uncomfortable would be too lax a term. It certainly isn't helping that he felt near powerless since he ended up here. Not only has this new world seemed to suck him of all his powers, he was thrust deep into a mountain. A home befitting a Dwarf, perhaps, but not this Dwarf.

Nyx waited for the dwarf to introduce himself only for him to say that the stuff that she had just said was mumbo jumbo, growling in frustration. Grabbing her staff she stood up, her eyes glowed bright blue as she stared at the dwarf who seems to think that God’s bring people to another world was mumbo jumbo. “Really you little twat biscuit!? You think that is not in the power for a God to drag you from your own world into another.” Raising her staff she started to chant her eyes glowing even brighter. “Lights of the world guide this servant with the elements of fire and water. Fire-Water Rope I summon thee.” The moment the last word left her lips the little twat of a dwarf would see a long rope of fire and water entwined with each other appear out of nowhere as the rope moved to wrap around him, the heat from the fire and the water causing steam burns to form. Moving closer to the dwarf she looked into his eyes as her own reminded glowing with her anger. “Now listen up you little twit when someone tells you they name you are to tell them yours.”
Raising her free hand she smacked the dwarf across the cheek as a smirk appeared on her lips watching him. “Second never question the God or less next time it might not be me who is knocking sense into you.” With that said she moved away from the dwarf, letting the rope of fire and water squeeze him a bit more before making it uncoil and wrapping around her staff not causing any harm to her staff or herself. The tip of the rope ready to uncoil and strike if needed before her cheerful smile from before appeared. “Well, of course, there is alcohol here silly. If there wasn’t then this would be dull now wouldn’t it.” Giggling a tiny bit that even the rope seem to have laughed along with her at the silly question the tiny man had asked.
“Hm… green well there is a farm here in Bane. We might be a mountain but we get enough light to have a working city here and a farm. Though if you are looking for trees and such then there is the Forever forest it’s just at the bottom of the mountain.” Once again giggling at the question wondering if he seriously thought that everyone lived underground in this world, she would have died if she couldn’t see the sun. “Now if you are done asking dumb questions and questioning Gods would you like a tour of Bane it will be your home for some time plus you must be hungry we can grab a bit to eat. Who knows if you are good for the rest of the time maybe I will give you a reward.” Nyx said the last part a bit flirty as she placed her finger on her lips almost as if she was thinking about it still. “Now after you little twit, and don’t look around for someone else to come though normally we get one new fated every day.” She said as she gestured to the path that she was on not wanting to turn her back on the little ass muncher.

(I'm going to more or less merge my previous post with this one, due to there being overlap)
Yada-Yada Mumbo Jumbo, wrapped up in magic as he moved the chest but before he asks about alcohol.
Reflexively as the tendrils shot towards him, he began to assume a battle stance, his axe coming forward. Rather than grip it in both hands, he swung it in an almost sword-like manner to parry the flaming coil, only for the liquid one to wrap him quickly followed by the fire. Steam began to rise where the two made contact with each other, luckily his armor was fairly thick and was decently insulated. Also luckily, the water/fire mix prevented his beard from burning off.
Adkir takes the smack, not that he really had a choice or ability to avoid, and as soon as he was released, his hand went up to his face, using the exposed fur on his forearm in an attempt to dry himself off from the steam that gathered on him, but he stays silent excluding his previous questions.
Do-do-do leftover of previous post.
Adkir was relived when she said alcohol did, in fact, exist. He didn't want to wait a few months in order to assemble a brewery and then actually brew. "My name is Adkir Frostbeard. I use to be a Shaman as well as a supplier for a small village named Clearwater. But i suspect I'll not be seeing them again, so I guess I'm just a dwarf now." That realization hit him as he spoke. He didn't like the thought of likely never seeing his home or it's residences again. Hopefully someone would go by soon enough and take care of his animals. By sheer will alone, he didn't let his emotion show and instead followed along with what she said. His first instinct told him to make a new home, but he didn't know what *this* world held. He may not be the brightest man, which may be what lead him to this decision, but he wanted to get out and find out about this world before he holed up.
"Well, I can't promise no more dumb questions." Adkir stated, squatting down to lift his chest, gently placing it over his shoulder and holding it with one arm, his axe held firmly in his other. "But let's get started, I guess. Hopefully I can live in that farm you mentioned? Not being surrounded by plants is not for me." No matter what, Adkir likely wasn't going to like whatever god brought him here. Away from his friends and family. Not that he really had much of either. However Clearwater depended on him, and now with his absence, what would become of them? Sure, he might have not spoken over her, but his mind was thinking of his home, so the mention of food or some sort of "reward" didn't register. He simply gestured with his axe for her to lead the way on this tour.

Smiling brightly at him as she extended her hand to shakes his. “It is nice to meet you Adkir I hope that we can be friends,” Nyx said being honest with him. “You are not just a dwarf part of a group of people who find ways to survive in a world unlike our own.” She said knowing that it was true so many fated didn’t make it pass even a few days of being in this world while other like herself and Kail made a life in this world. “Well you know if you were a Shaman you can continue that work in this world I am sure we can use more Shamans in this world.”
Nodding her head happy that he got the basic of the information though the idea of him never leaving Bane and living on the farm here wasn’t bad but then he would never get to see the rest of the world. “Well I don’t believe that you can live on the farm here, but I am sure that the owners of the farm wouldn’t mind some help to get you started. If you decide to stay here I will be back to check on you in about a month time depending on my work.” Nyx said as she watched him pick up his chest and brush off that he didn’t pick up on the food or the mention of a reward. Brushing if off knowing that he is most likely thinking of home, she had been the same way. She still worried but she knows that she would find a way back one day and decided to improve her skills in this world before returning to her own.
Walking out of the room for the alter once they were outside they Adkir would notice a different in lighting it was bright and sunny if he looked up he would see the crystals that were lighting up the underground carven. Walking the path Nyx would take him past the farms for him to check them out for a few minutes before calling him back so that they could head to the tavern and get some food. If Adkir paid attention during they trip he would see people of all different races and all wearing different clothes from they own worlds no one really paying much attention to them unless it was to look up at the newest fated before going back to work.
Pushing open the door of the tavern Nyx choose a seat for them just in the corner closest to the door. “So Adkir what are you in the mood to eat.” She asked as she rested her staff on the side of the table.

Following Nyx fairly closely, his hand still tightly gripping his weapon, Adkir exited from the room he had suddenly appeared in and squinted briefly as his eyes adjusted to the sudden brightness. First thing he noticed was, once again, the impeccable stonework of everything. It rivaled, if not surpassed, what he has seen master carvers do back in his home mountain. During the few seconds he dedicated to the structure surrounding him, he noticed several crystals (I assume floating) that were the source of the near-sunlight brightness. What's wrong with the light of lamps and forges? Perhaps it isn't as industrious as a dwarven home. They aren't dwarves after all. Adkir spotted a few, but not enough.
So here he is. A 3 foot 9 inch dwarf wrapped in wet furs and hides with a fairly large chest on his shoulder, following around a woman who is tits and shoulders taller than he is. He was more or less ignored, thankfully. He pinched his axe between the arm holding the chest and his torso, so he could use his free hand to pull the bear skin/helmet up over his head. If to many people paid attention he'd probably bite someone. He isn't built to live in a crowded area and being surrounded by so many people put him on edge. They reached the farm lands and loitered a bit. It wasn't the same as being outside, but it was better than being in the center of a city. Based on Nyx's lack of movement, it would appear she was letting him explore a bit. Saying he probably couldn't live here was somewhat disheartening, however this place still wasn't suitable for him. She mentioned a forest earlier, so he made a note to ask her later. That's where he's gonna set up his home. During his exploration, Adkir dropped to a knee next to a plant and shoved his fingers into the dirt near the stem, shoved his little dwarven fingers around. He brought the dried gourd he uses as a water skin around in front of him, pulled the cork and poured out a small bit for the plant. Corking the gourd and pushing it behind him on it's string, he pinches a leaf between his thumb and finger for a moment before standing up.
About that time, Nyx called him back and lead him back into the filthy city and into the tavern. At least here he can pretend he's at a roadside Inn or something. At least she picked a spot near the door. He sat with his back to the wall and the door in front of him, placing his chest down next to him and his Axe on top of it.
"I think some chicken would be nice, along with some mead." He stated in response to her question. He waited a few moments before asking her about what was on his mind. "You mentioned a forest earlier. That's where I'd like to live. I'm not a...I can't live underground anymore." He was torn between never leaving his future stead and regularly setting off on adventures to see what the world had. An upside to being in the middle of nowhere is you don't get many visitors, so no one would likely notice if he disappeared for a few days at a time to adventure. "Before you leave, could i also get directions to any nearby settlements? Villages and cities and stuff. I'd like to know of places that may need my skills."

Nyx nodded her head at the mention of food, flagging down on the waitresses she order rice and chicken for two with mead with Adkir and simple wine for herself. Once the waitress was gone she turned back to the dwarf she was a bit shocked that he didn’t want to live underground given the little that she knew about his race they loved to live underground hell she had a quest where she had to explore an old dwarven civilization and get a family crest. Taking a closer look at him wondering if maybe he was kidding but she couldn’t pick up on anything nor did his eyes seem to be lying to her. “Well if you want to live in the forest that is fine, but it can be dangerous. Still, I am not going to stop you if you do. Just tell me where you decide to settle down so I can check on you if I don’t see you in a while.”
“You silly dwarf I am not leaving until I made you have eaten. Well at the edge of the forest is a city call Nova, more in the middle of the forest is where I live and work it is mage town. The main part of it called Arch of Ages it is the school within a tree.” Thinking for a moment it was at this point the waitress came back with the food placing it before them. “If you have paper and something to write with I can draw you a map of the area so you don’t get lost.” She said before reaching into the top of her shirt taking the small coin purse and paid the waitress before taking out enough that would equal 1000 Noruvian dollars and pushed it towards Adkir. “I normally don’t do this but since you are going to live in the forest I’ll give you some money for you to buy some basic supplies. Um… as for a place to stay there is a boarding house that you can stay in until you leave this place.”

"I'm no stranger to creatures." He says, tapping the snout of the bearskin he wore that served as his helmet. He didn't feel it was required to point out the assorted other trophies he wore. "In fact," He said, he wasn't opposed to telling about his weapons, "my axe and dagger is made from the creatures that I've slain." He motions to his battleaxe that was resting on the wooden chest he lugged around. The axe was made from what appeared to be a grossly oversized insect mandible. The "blade" was roughly two feet long, the weapon itself was overall taller than Adkir was. (I recommend checking character sheet for full description.)
The waitress brought the food and set down the food and drink, was paid, and left to continue doing her job. He began to eat slowly, his head was still a little sore and he didn't know how well his stomach would handle food. When asked about paper, he shook his head. He didn't have any paper. He had a small bar of charcoal he used for writing in his trunk, but no paper or parchment. He watched as she pushed some amount of currency towards him and explained why she was giving him what appeared to be a not insignificant amount. He did need some tools. Like an axe that wasn't for fighting, some carpenter tools, a hammer, and assorted other necessities for living a simple life. Eventually, he used one hand to scoop them off the table into his other open hand, and dumped them into a small pouch on his belt. "Thank you. I'll need to stop by a shop before i set off, then. Is there anyplace here that sells tools? I'd like to be outside as soon as i can." He shoved a spoonful of food into his mouth and paused mid-chew as a thought hit him. "There's not any graveyards nearby, are there? Crypts, mausoleums, anyplace that dead people are stored?" Adkir didn't care about ground dwelling creatures. He didn't care for airborne or aquatic creatures but he didn't feel particularly threatened by them. The one thing he lothed, the thing that actually scared him was the undead. Undead aren't natural. Once your body dies it's suppose to stay dead. Not get back up.

Nyx nodded her head happy to hear that she wouldn’t have to worry too much about her little dwarf getting hurt. Taking the time, she looked at the axe it was impressive workmanship from smooth edges to the shaft of the axe itself honestly if he didn’t point it out she might have thought it was just a metal or even a type of wood that she hadn’t seen before. It seemed like he would be able to handle himself for the most part against the creatures of the forest.
Hearing that he didn’t have paper she mentally cursed herself since she could have brought paper and an inkwell with her and just mentally draw him the map that she had saw in the library of Nova and its surrounding areas. Then again maybe him not having a map was a good thing too since this place was meant to be hidden and if he lost the map and it ended up in the wrong hands it would be her fault. “You are welcome.” Continuing to eat slowly she thought on his question, there were a few general stores and she knew that Kail had a workshop and was kind of a blacksmith from what she saw the last time she had visited him. “There are a few places where you can buy. Let’s see is a blacksmith of sorts but I am not sure if he is in Bane right now or if he in the main city.” Graveyards near by she never had anyone ask her that question she did remember that the Bone temple was in the forest but if Adkir stayed far from it and stuck either closer to Nova or the Arch of Ages he didn’t have much to worry around. “No graveyards per say. There is a temple made of bones but you don’t have to worry just try to stick either close to the city of Nova or even better close to the Arch of Ages this way I don’t have to travel far to check in on you during my free time.” She said honestly before she took a sip of her wine. “Is there anything else Adkir-kun if not then once we finish eating we can part ways.”

"Well..." He started, shoving another mouthful of food in and chewing for a moment, swallowing before he continued. "If i make a small list of items, could you show me around to the places that might have it? It'd be faster than me wandering around looking for it myself." He was already running through a list of items he would absolutely need, and items he could do without. "I can get by with very few items. I probably won't even need half of what you gave me, of which I'd like for you to take back what extra is left." He picked up the mug and drained nearly half of it in a matter of moments, banging it back down on the table with an audible "Ahhh" noise. He's had better, however that's not to say this mead wasn't good.
"You mentioned checking up on me in your free time. If that's the case, you may want to follow me while i find a suitable spot otherwise you may not be able to find me easily. While we're looking maybe you can also tell me about some of the creatures I may encounter. If there's fire breathing spiders, I'd like to know about it before it burns muh beard." His hand reaches up and brushes down his beard a few times, almost absentmindedly at the thought. On the third brush down, his hand stopped at the bottom and he tried to look down, putting on this open mounted stupid face of someone attempting to look at their chin. He mutters something under his breath, it seems his beard has grown considerably longer than it was before he came here. He was full enough now, having ate most of his food, so he gathered all his beard up in his hand, ran his hand down some, and used his free hand to draw his dagger. Using what was effectively a long and sharp tooth attached to a wooden handle, he cuts off the bottom few inches of his beard. The knife was returned to the leather "sheath" at his waist before he moved his axe and began to rummage in his chest. Beardhair still clinched in his hand, he withdrew a piece of string and tied it around the hair, and tossed the bundle into the chest.
"Sorry 'bout dah'" he said looking back at Nyx. "It wasn't that long an hour ago." He crossed his thick feet beneath the table and began making a thick, loose braid with his beard that ran down to the center of his chest. It was quick business and over within a minute, a small strip of leather was produced from a pouch and was tied near the end of the braid.

“I don’t mind showing you around,” Nyx said in between bites as she slowly finished her food and didn’t want to waste any of it. Swirling the wine in the glass taking a few times as she took some sips. “It’s okay if you don’t use all the money now if you are going to live in the forest you are going to need some other things to minus the basic items.”
Nodding her head when he mentioned that she would be checking up on him in her free time. Though she wasn’t expecting him to ask her tag along with him to find a suitable home in the forest. Doing some math in her head based on the travel time from Bane back to the Arch of Ages and when she needed to be back for her classes plus she did leave a note with her roommate letting her know that she had the place for herself a few days while she away from the Arch. “No fire breathing spiders but there are some that eat human flesh. I can give you a list of some of the things you might encounter.” Finally said, as she started to go back into thing only be distracted when Adkir decided to trim his beard at the table, then proceed to braid it. Here she had thought that she was strange yet Adkir might be trying to one-up her on being strange.
“It’s fine fading effects everyone different. If you are finished, we can head on out and you can tell me what you need to buy.” She said as she stretched a bit before standing up.

Once braided, Adkir laced his fingers together over his stomach, his freshly braided beard pinched between his hands and torso. With a face and a head gesture, he made a grunt of sorts in response to being finished. "I'm full enough. I much rather get busy and outta here." That said, he pushed his plate towards the center of the table and stood up. He picked up his chest and placed it on his shoulder, his fingers gripping one of the carry handles in order to keep it in place, and took his axe in his free hand as Nyx did whatever she was doing. He walked beside her as he rattled off his list of items.
"A sharp knife, some saws, a hammer and a sledgehammer, Wood axe, wheelbarrow, Carpentry and leather working tools, some sort of healers kit, buckets, a shovel, iron pots, Poles, fishing equipment, a few jugs, maybe a barrel or two, wire and string, rope, blankets, a whetstone, waterskin, Nails and iron spikes, some seeds and maybe some small livestock if there's any around. That should be all I'd really need to get things started. Oh, and some dried foods and raw ingredients. With that I should be able to establish myself and build better equipment."
