First day on the Job [Tag: Gabriel]

It was just past noon was Yuki was walking towards the moon temple today was the first day of Gabriel being her guard. That day she was in a simple blue and white dress long sleeves the corset being tied in the front with a simple sweetheart neckline. Her hair down a blue ribbon tied at the bottom of the hair in her normal style. In her hands was a small package wrapped in a simple brown paper as she walked towards the Moon Temple she prayed that Gabriel didn’t forget what today was.


Reaching the Moon Temple, she walked though the doors heading towards the room dedicated to Ai. Walking into the room she saw that Gabriel was still in the room. “Good Afternoon Gabriel.” She smiled as she greeted him brightly excited for that day since she could do some shopping with Gabriel and introduce him to Aolani officially since the horse didn’t take kindly to strangers.

Gabriel went to the Moon temple at his usual time today since he became the high priest, after arriving there he went to the room of Ai and went through his normal routine of cleaning and making sure the room was proper for the visitors. As he was finishing up he heard the door open.

Turning around he saw it was Yuki as she greeted him “ Hello Yuki was it that time already?” Gabriel asked as he continued to move minor things here and there. After he finished he walked over to a side of the wall and grabbed his things, besides from his staff he normally carries on hand, he had his bag with him as well though it has spare clothes it also had his sword though the hilt of the sword stuck out from it.

“ Okay so I should be finished for the most part, Whenever you're ready we can leave Yuki” Gabriel said with a smile as he walked towards her.

Yuki nodded her head when he asked if it was time already, as she looked around the room she notices that Gabriel has done well in keeping it clean also with the décor of the room was well done. While waiting, she walked over to one of the tapestries and touched the material it was high quality and very fitting for Ai herself. Once Gabriel was ready she smiled at him and handed him the package that she had been holding on to. “Here this is for you.” Once Gabriel opens the package he would find a necklace with a pendant on the front side of it was Yuki’s family crest and one side was her family motto along with the word personal guard. “I got it made for you. It’s so that you can enter the castle without having to be stopped and questioned if you need to meet at the castle if something has kept me. You don’t have to wear it but keep it on you at all times please.”


Once she made sure that Gabriel had the necklace secure on his body somewhere. “We can head out now. Not much is happening today I just need to head in the harbour since a shipment has come in and I need to make sure that it meets the requirements and nothing got lost. After that, it’s just back to the castle to get all the paper work is in order then I need to practice a little...” Thinking for a moment since even with it being summer now she still needed to keep up with her magic studies. Plus now that she had a proper guard she could venture outside the city knowing that she would be more protected compared to before. “For that, we can head out to the meadow so me to practice some of the things I learnt at the Arch of Ages.”

After recieving the package he opened it and saw a necklace, after hearing Yuki explain what the necklace was for Gabriel smiled and put the necklace on “Thank you Yuki, that would be convenient if anything was to happen” saying so he looked at it for a few seconds

“Okay we can head out now I’m finished with my duties anyways” hearing Yuki finish speaking about her schedule today he walked towards the door and held it open for her “Seems like we would have to get started on them then Yuki, sounds like you're busy aren't you?” Gabriel said waiting for her friend to leave the room with him. “The training at the end does seem fun though but the arch of ages? From what I heard thats a place for mages right?” Scratching his head “I don’t think I’d be much help with your training Yuki i’m really bad with magic.”

“I’m not that busy today. Other days when it gets busy walking wouldn’t be an option.” Thinking for a moment travelling by carriage would take too long and she had to rely on someone driving. “By chance Gabriel can you ride a horse?” Yuki asked as she thought about them making a small detour and consider getting a winged horse for Gabriel since it would the fastest means of travel. Also, if Gabriel couldn’t ride a horse she would also have to find someone to teach him how to ride a horse.


Leaving the room and the soon the Moon Temple she walked down the path heading into town with Gabriel. “Well, the training isn’t all completely magic related. I have learnt some basic self-defence and I could use some help. I was hoping if you could possibility help me a little with my form?” She asked looking at Gabriel for a moment before turning back to look ahead down the path there were travelling.

“Um a horse? I haven’t rode one in some time but yeah I have learned how to” Gabriel scratched his head while remembering the last time he rode a horse was when he was still being trained to become Helena's Champion. 

While walking he smiled a bit when he heard that the training was not going to be strictly magic “Yeah with close combat i’ll be able to help you a lot more since it’s probably the best thing that i’ll be able to teach you anyways Yuki” He said with a smile as they continued to walk. "Was there any specific weapon you wanted to use Yuki?"

“That is good cause we will need to get you a horse a winged-one if possible since it would be easier for us to travel.” She said as she continued to walk with Gabriel.


Smiling brightly hearing that he would be able to help her learn a bit more combat. “Um… well.” Stopping her in tracks she took a deep breath and visualize her daggers. Taking come of the mana into her body she pushed it out until two twin daggers began to form in each of her hands. In her fight hand was a dagger made of compressed air mana while in the other was a dagger made of ice mana. Presenting the daggers to Gabriel that if he would try to touch them he would see that they were as solid as a one made from metal. “I’m learning how to fight with daggers… I want to get better so I don’t always have to rely on someone to protect me.” She said as she slowly allowed the daggers to get dispel back into raw mana.

The next few hours Yuki and Gabriel would to the harbour where they checked on the new shipment of tea. Yuki wasn’t too happy with the supplies since it some of the leaves were not dried properly and others wasn’t even the packed properly. Still she just thanked the merchant while making note that she might need to consider hiring someone to do business on her family’s behalf when it comes to trading with counties across the sea.


From there Yuki took the best of the supplies that she had gotten from the newest shipments and package them up to give to her merchants, the taverns that work with her family and some of it for own personal use. After dropping everything off at the respectable merchant or business she placed the remaining in her bag.

Time: Late Afternoon 

Location: Meadows 

By time Yuki and Gabriel had reached the meadows it was late afternoon, there was enough sunlight left for them work with before having to head back to city. Speading her arms wide Yuki smiled as she felt the wind around, her using some of the tricks Adrain taught her she allowed the wind to play with her hair.


Once she settled down a bit she turned to Gabriel as she tilted her head to the ride a bit. “Um... how do we start this?”

"A winged horse? I never rode one before but besides that wouldn't it be expensive?!" Gabriel was shocked when Yuki said that since besides from he only seen one, he was positive he wouldn't have the money to even afford to buy one not even considering the amount of money he owed to the inn, or the amount it would take for him to take care of one properly. 

After seeing Yuki manifest two daggers and reaching out to touch them Gabriel smiled. "The training may be fairly difficult but I'll be able to teach you how to fight with daggers fairly easy. though compared to swords or a staff daggers are more reliant on speed and your reflexes Yuki" Gabriel told the truth from his experience, Though he was originally taught using daggers in his past he preferred swords and staffs since they had more reach and it was possible to put more strength into them.

After arriving at the meadow Gabriel looked at Yuki as she asked "well easiest way would be for you to manifest your daggers again, though I'll probably just see what you know for today as well as how athletic you are Yuki", Gabriel drew his sword out and stuck it to the ground as he waited for Yuki "Don't worry we won't be sparring yet. since I dont have a dagger i'll just use the sword as an example." Gabriel said with a smile and a wave of his hand to brush off any worries Yuki would have thinking they would be fighting off the bat.

Nodding her head Yuki closed her eyes and saw her daggers in her mind. One was almost completely transparent with mixtures of white and the other one was icy blue and giving off a cold feeling. Pulling the mana from the air into her mana channels she took a deep breath as she pushed it out so that her little hands were wrapped around the hilt of the daggers as they started to form in her hands. Once her eyes were open they would be two daggers in her hands in her right would be the air dagger and in her left, would be the ice dagger.



Looking up at Gabriel she notices that he had drawn his sword from the sheath. She got a bit worried until he said that they wouldn’t be sparring just yet. She was thankful cause the most she fought against were the clay golems that Adrain created or the blocks of ice that Melda created to have her practice combining two spells at once to work on her reflexes. “Okay, so what do you want me to do first.” She asked still feeling a bit nervous.

Watching the daggers form in the palm of her hand amazed Gabriel, he was never good with magic and being able to actually see it without fighting against it was somewhat of a rare thing in his past. Gabriel walked towards Yuki “Well for now we’ll have to go over the grip and stance first before I see if you can actually fight with them” standing in front of Yuki he held his sword out in front.

“Okay so lets start off with the very beginning, first there are many and I mean many ways to grip a dagger.” Gabriel would then be showing the grips with his sword as he spoke “The many grips though are usually catagorized to 2 main grip styles, The forward grip where your the blade and your thumb faces the same direction, and the reverse grip where the blade and your thumb faces opposite directions.” Gabriel looked at Yuki to see if she was still understanding all that he was saying “If I’m going to fast tell me so I can slow down okay Yuki? And then the styles are also changed whether the blade of the dagger is facing towards or away from you. So with that there's four general styles for using daggers.”

Gabriel finished speaking before showing the four styles again to Yuki again “With daggers you want to be able to use as many grips as possible to change how you fight. Forward grip is usually used for slashing down and stabbing the body, The Forward Grip with the blade facing you is usually used to skin animals but you can also use it to stab someone taller than you when your laying down”

“The Reverse grips are used in slashing horizontal or stabbing downwards though you have less reach with a reverse grip since the blade itself is closer to your body. You also use the joint in your elbow more instead of your shoulder. Though when the edge is out, though you can stab downwards because of the blade is faced to the enemy its usually used for slashing, while when the blade is in its used to stab easier with the same force.”

Gabriel took a breathe and smiled “Well for now try the grips and see which one your most comfortable with, I’ll teach you that grip for single and dual wielding before we elaborate anymore on the styles to use”

Yuki nodded head when Gabriel started to go over the different grips and stances. As she listened to him she felt a bit overwhelmed on the different grip styles and what there were used for and that the style changed depending on if the dagger was facing towards her or another person. Nodding her head when he said if he was going too fast for her to ask him to slow down if she started to get a bit lost.


As he started to demonstrate on his sword she watched carefully, wondering if she could do that as effective as him. Hearing that it was her turn to try some of the grips she looked at him wondering if he was crazy to ask her to try them, but seeing that she had no options she nodded her head. “Okay.” First, she dispelled the ice dagger so that she was only working with one at a time. Adjusting her hand position until she had it in the forward grip that Gabriel had shown her, feeling comfortable with it she adjusted her hand again so that she was holding the dagger in a reverse grip, this time the dagger felt a bit awkward in her hands so she adjusted back so that she was holding the dagger in a forward grip. “Like this?”

“Yep thats good, the grip you have works fine but you need to move your thumb over your fingers” Gabriel said as he moved closer to Yuki and adjusted the grip slightly. “The grip your using now is good for stabbing, and slashing. It also has the most reach you’ll get out of the dagger.” Gabriel said as he imitated the grip. “Lets practice with just one dagger for now, when using two your stance changes slightly.”

“Hmm lets move towards the tree there, it’ll be easier for you to practice if you have something to hit” After saying that Gabriel moved towards a tree that had a fairly thick trunk to hit, Once Yuki walked to closer to the tree Gabriel would use his sword holding it in the same grip and slash the tree to form an X.

“Okay so stand here with one leg in front of the other and your body turned to the side, it makes you slightly harder to hit since your torso is not fully facing the enemy, Since we don’t really have any training dummies just slash at the tree to get used to the motion. The farther you try to slash the more strength you’ll need to put but if you’re too far the slash won’t be deep enough. If your too close though slashing won’t be as effective. Since you need the full motion of your arm.” Gabriel showed Yuki by taking a step back before slashing at the tree. Though the sword touched the tree it left only a small nick, afterwards he took a few steps forward and tried to slash the tree as the sword touched the tree it stopped about a inch in. “See? You need to judge your distance while using daggers theres only a small area for you to be able to effectively use it.” Gabriel said as he pulled his sword out.

“Slash at the X, as your slashing it’ll get slightly deeper if your doing it right, if your too far away there won’t be a mark, while if your too close the dagger will get stuck. You’ll be measuring your distance to slash while adjusting your grip when it hits so you can hold onto the dagger.”

Yuki looked at her grip once Gabriel adjusted making sure that she remembered for next time since Gabriel might not be there next time she had to use a dagger. She nodded her hand went he said they would be practicing with one dagger for now. Following him to the tree she watched as he made an X on the tree.



Following Gabriel’s instruction, she stood with one leg in front of the other and her body turned to the side. As she brought the dagger up to slash at it the mana that formed it started to dispel into the air. Laughing at a bit seeing that now she was barehanded with no weapon. “Sorry… I only have a limited control on maintaining the daggers.”



She took a deep breath knowing that it would be a while before she could summon another air dagger. Yuki closed her eyes she drew the mana into her body as she drew in a deep breath allowing the mana to change from pure energy to that of ice slowly she pushed it out of her body as she allowed it to form in her right hand starting with the hilt which this time was light blue in colour as it blade formed causing it to become a paler blue as small bit of cold air was coming off the dagger. “Okay ready again.” Taking a few steps towards the tree enough where she would be able to extend her hand fully she took the first slash at the tree in a downwards angle.

Gabriel smiled “That’s fine, seems like a downside of magic anyways.” looking at her summon another dagger and slashed at the tree “Thats a good slash, try moving just a bit closer though you don’t the cut to be too minor, you want to balance the amount of force you use, the more severe the cut is the less likely they’ll be able to do another move.”

Gabriel walked around the front of the tree that Yuki was hitting while adjusting her posture and giving her minor tips along the way “After each slash try to be able to get back to your stance. If your stance breaks easily the enemy will be able to attack you easier.” After a bit more time passed Gabriel looked at Yuki “Should we practice blocking now Yuki? It's not as complicated as attacking with a dagger though it probably takes more focus in real fights.”

Yuki nodded her head when Gabriel mention that there was some downside of magic. “It is but I’m only a beginner mage as I get stronger so does my spells and I can maintain them longer as well.” She said as smiled at the small slash she had made in the tree it wasn’t anything big but still, she was proud. Following Gabriel’s instructions, she moved a bit closer to the tree and kept slashing at it as he adjusted her posture and changing her positioning each time he offered some advice and tips.



After some time, she felt that she got a hang of using the dagger and based on the marks on the tree it wasn’t too bad for her to try with officially training on how to use a dagger properly. She looked up at Gabriel feeling a bit tired a small layer of sweat on her brows from the all the physical activity. Hearing him ask if she wanted to practice blocking. “I wouldn’t mind learning how to block.”
