Roland sat at a table in the Bloody Mary dressed in what had been his normal outfit, a wide black hat covered his head and a long black leather coat with the lower part cut into tassels hanging down, and a staff made from white oak at his side. As he takes a sip from his mug of beer which was honestly pretty mediocre he looks around.
Roland had made a posting saying he was looking for a group to help him investigate the Forever Forest. He had a bad feeling about whatever was happening, but Aveline insisted that if he go to investigate he at least bring a group with him. She had needed to stay at home and keep an eye on young Jeon, and he did not want to take any of the guards from the house. So here he was, drinking middle of the road beer waiting to see if any would approach him about his posting.
"How different life can become in a few short months." He mused as he took another sip, you know, this stuff was growing on him.

Esme had needed to get out; she'd been stuck in Tres's tiny infirmary for too long. She felt fine, they had no need to keep "watching" her. It felt more like spying, but whatever. The petit blonde entered the tavern, wearing a forest green top paired with a light brown leather bust cut corset, a black leather jacket to match. Her pants were black as well, tightly fitted, showing her midriff slightly. Her blond hair was in beach waves, trickling down to her mid back. Thanks to Aria, her wings were hidden with the help of the gold and leaf green ring resting on her finger. Her Guardian Blade rested against her hip, but she’d gone without the armor. She headed directly for the bar without glancing anywhere else. I don't care what you give me, but please make it strong. Esme requested, not bothering to learn what the name of each ale was. She paid the man, and turned to face the tavern, leaning on the bar while she waited. At first glance, there wasn't much going on in the dimly lit room; just a few day drinkers here and there, not much different from here. Though all the parties partaking at that time seemed to all keep to themselves, hunched over their tables or the bar. Once Esme received her drink, she made her way over to the bulletin board, just curious what people could be asking.
Ads like "Newly renovated Seamstress shop; stop by today!" and "Blossom Festival is fast approaching, who will you buy a flower for?" littered the board; clearly some were newer than others. One that did catch her eye was someone requesting a small group to "check out the Forever Forest." The individual believed there was something wrong with the forest; though he wouldn't be the only one lately with all the ominous clouds and stuff. Though not many seemed willing to actually check it out. With a moment of thought, Esme came to a conclusion. She needed to get away from Tres, and going off on a small mission type thing, could prove interesting. Maybe she'd be able to kill something along the way. She turned on her heal and headed back to the bar, waving over the bartender again. Who put up that ad? She asked, pointing to the most recent one. He directed her to the man sitting alone with the large black hat. Esme stared at him for a moment, furrowing her eyebrows. No one seemed to have joined him yet, so did she really want to chance being the only one to go with him? Seemed kinda sketchy. With a resigned sigh, she decided to go with it; appearances could be deceiving and Esme had no doubts she could take him out in a heartbeat anyhow. She stepped away from the bar, stopping across from Roland at his table, clearing her throat. You wrote the Forest ad, yeah? She asked, not sitting until he responded.

Roland had been here a while, it had been a long time since he had not had access to palace resources and he’d actually forgotten how frustrating it was to need to find and screen help. He had gotten a couple of interested individuals, but mostly from out of shape drunks who would have been more trouble than help. This is why when a woman dressed in black leather approached him Roland had surprised.
When he adjusted his hat and looked up at her his amethyst eyes shone brightly. In a place like this he was certainly not going to avoid drawing in mana, and the silver hue generally only manifested around Aveline. He still had yet to figure out what caused his eye color to shift between purple and silver.
“Yes, I put up the ad, the names Roland,” he introduced and gestured for her to take the seat across from him. She had some magic, he could feel the aura, it was pretty strong too. “I am looking for a couple of people that can really take care of themselves to accompany me. Is that something you might be interested in?” He asks her curiously.

Esme let him look her over; people with ads always had expectations as to who would accept them, that was just common knowledge. While he looked at her, she saw his eyes, arching an eyebrow subtly. That was certainly interesting. When he introduced himself and motioned for her to sit, she pulled up the chair across from him and placed her drink on the table.
Pleasure Roland, you can call me Esme. she nodded her head, grabbing her cup to take a swig. She’d originally been scared to use her given name; but had quickly come to realize not every mortal knew the names of the angels; it had just been her luck to run into two people who did upon arriving. Though Esme noted that this man wasn’t completely mortal, yet despite that he didn’t seem too versed on the Angels either. When he continued talking, she nodded.
Indeed I am. You want to see first hand whats going on in that forest. If it’s because of Helena, yea? Esme couldn’t very well just come out with who she was, so she came up with a lie on the spot; I was a member of the Kings Guard for years, trust me- I can handle myself. She spoke with a mildly cocky grin, having no idea who this man just happened to be. Roland noticed that she had noticed his appraisal and decided to tolerate it without any comment or bluster, a point in her favor in his opinion. As she sat down and gave her name he nodded. It wasn’t uncommon for some of the more devout to name their kids after angels, and given the way she carried herself one of the guardian angels seemed fitting.
He was about to answer her question for the reason for the expedition when she told him that ‘he could trust her she had been in the kings guard’. Roland closed his mouth and went silent. “Now why would you ask me to trust you by telling me a lie?” He asked curiously his eyes narrowing slightly in suspicion. “You must be fairly new in town though, I was fairly well known when I was captain of the royal guard.” He remarked curiously as the glow in his eyes got slightly brighter.
“Listen, I can tell you’ve got some potent magic, and I can tell from the way you carry yourself you’ve got some experience with a blade. So why the need to lie?” He repeated. He’d gather more mana within himself as he spoke and prepared to launch a blast of tremendous force if she made any strange moves.

[attr="class","BOXU"] [attr="class","TAGSU"]Open; taking place two days before the Trial. Esme winced lightly. For the love of Gods…. Of course. Of-freaking-course, only she would find someone who actually used to work for the guard; and the captain at that… Esme sighed as he went on, claiming to know she had potent magic. She started directly at him as she debated on how to answer.
… I shouldn’t have lied. I apologize. She took a drink. Look. Its complicated, and definitely not something I want to talk about in the middle of a tavern. She answered slowly and calculated. She hadn’t exactly wanted to tell anyone any time soon; but how did you get out of a lie like that? She eyed him strangely, noticing his manna seemed to be increasing with time. That was a nifty trick; she’d have to learn it someday.
I guess I shouldn’t say trust me now, seems a bit far fetched. Esme sighed again, leaning back against her chair- making no move to attack him. Roland watched Esme as her mistake dawned on her, rotten luck on her part, she probably could convince most people with that lie. Though even if he hadn't known the names of almost all of the royal guard he'd have been able to tell she wasn't part of it. Guardsman were dangerous, but they didn't have the same kind of danger that this woman had, at least not many of those he'd met.
"You are right, you should not have lied, I understand why you did it, but untruths are a serious matter." Roland reproved as he took a swig of his beer. "I am not going to ask you for your background, at least not right now, but I would like to know why you are interested in my request." He queried.

[attr="class","BOXU"] [attr="class","TAGSU"]Open; taking place two days before the Trial. Esme sighed heavily. Her luck really was atrocious. She was relieved to hear at least that he would not be pushing to know her history- so that was a plus. She relaxed her shoulders again, tilting her neck to crack it lightly out of reflex. if I’m being honest- and I am this time, I promise - it just seems interesting. I’m actually semi new to town, so I don’t really have much to do. She shrugged, taking a swig of her drink. She winced lightly; she really had gotten something strong.
It wasn’t a lie either. She had been basically told to stay with Tresor after she’d fallen, and although Tres couldn’t really stop her from roaming the city, Esme hadn’t done much of it, not really finding much of a purpose in it. She’d found the tavern and that was about enough for her. Seeing the ad when she had was just coincidence. Roland leaned back in his chair as he contemplated Esme's response. To be honest he'd heard a lot of lies like this one over his tenure as a guard, but something about her was making him lean towards believing she was telling him the truth. He grimaced inwardly that he had not had time to finish his Truth spell before getting married. Between that, Aveline's difficult pregnancy and his time in prison he had not particularly had the time to put the finishing touches on some of his spell casting. Roland found that for one of the first times he could remember he had a desire to get stronger.
After shaking his head Roland looked at the woman again and said. "If you want to come along with me I will need to know what kinds of abilities you have."

[attr="class","BOXU"] [attr="class","TAGSU"]Open; taking place two days before the Trial. Esme let out a sigh of relief at his response, relaxing in her chair yet again. That’s fair. I’m a warrior by trade, so naturally I’m quite skilled with my sword and shield; but I’m not unfamiliar with hand to hand either. She started off, pulling her blade out of its sheath and placing it on the table.
I have a magic shield I can use that blocks both mundane and magical attacks for a few minutes at a time, and I can seal off someone else’s magic for around 15 minutes, though I can only do two at a time. Esme explained, knowing magic wasn’t a stranger to this world anymore, and she wouldn’t be singled out for it.
After explaining, she picked up her sword and returned it to its place on her hip, securing it tightly. I assume you won’t be heading out tonight. Is there a timeframe in place? Roland listened with interest as she explained her abilities and nodded. He’d need to be careful around her, he had methods to deal with people who neutralized magic, but they were rare and those who were sufficiently skilled could neutralize them.
“It is only fair that I share my abilities as well I suppose. I am fair with a sword, and bow though my hand to hand skills are fairly mediocre. However I am considered a fairly powerful mage and I can bring inanimate objects to life.” He explained feeling intruiged by this individual. If Esme could shut down a foe’s magic but leave his intact she would be a very valuable asset as a partner.
“You are right, we are not leaving yet, I need to do some investigation regarding a dragon, which I would also appreciate your assistance with.” He admits.

[attr="class","BOXU"] [attr="class","TAGSU"]Open; taking place two days before the Trial. Esme arched an eyebrow as he processed her response, happy to hear he would be just as honest as she was. When he admitted he was a mage, she let out a knowing “ahhhh” sound. That makes sense as to why you tensed up a bit at the mention of my seal. Don’t worry I don’t intend to use it on you. She laughed, taking another sip of her drink and placing it back on the table.
When he went on to explain his current task, she nodded, not sure how to help. I’m not sure what help I could be; I’m no good with tracking, but I’m in. Roland noticed her pause the think when he mentioned he was a mage and Esme seemed to grasp why her ability made him a bit uncomfortable. Well it's nice to work with someone so sharp for a change. He admitted to himself as most of the people with neutralization abilities never stopped to consider how uncomfortable it was for a mage to work with someone who could invalidate more or their tricks in a blink.
When she offered to help with the dragon as well Roland stopped and had to give this some real thought. He didn't know who this person was, but he would probably need help to deal with the dragon, particularly if it was a mage who was shapeshifting. Roland liked his chances in most straight forward magical battles, but someone in this person's situation might have fortified a sanctuary.
"Well I am actually something of a tracking expert myself, though I do not have much to go on at the moment. Is your seal selective, like could you use it on someone and then have me throw a fireball at them?" He asked curiously.

[attr="class","BOXU"] [attr="class","TAGSU"]Open; taking place two days before the Trial. Esme thought it over; in the past she’d only used it to neutralize a threat before Mylee had his way with them, but she was sure it could be used like that as well. After a moment she nodded. I don’t see why not. It won’t paralyze them, so they could still move out of the way, but their magic would be out of commission, yes. She answered, never having thought of that before. She’d never really fought along side anyone in the past century or so.
She began to wonder what this guy did to lose his previous position as Guard captain; he seemed competent enough, and he clearly knew what he was doing. Esme arched an eyebrow in thought but didn’t say anything about it. Out of sheer boredom, Aireth found himself way out in the boonies standing in front of the Bloody Mary. He felt a tug in the back of his mind urging him inside. He pushed his way through the doors with all his usual swagger, and scanned the room. On the far end, near a board covered with sheets of parchment and paper, stood a ghostly visage of his late father whom gestured him over and indicated a specific sheet. Aireth crossed the room and scanned the page, pulling it off of the board. He turned around again and, following a final indication from the spectral vision, approached the pair of individuals.
Standing at the edge of the table, he tosses the paper between the two and looks at the man. "I want in."
Aireth had his offhand casually sitting on the pommel of his Rapier, his main hand hanging at his side next to the Crusader-style Arming sword, with a second weapon handle sticking out at a different angle from his dagger. He was dressed far to...well for the position he was applying for. A frilly white high-neck shirt, a Regal Blue vest, somewhat-loose trousers with knee high brown boots that are well worn and dull in color. His black hair was slicked back and gathered into a small ponytail at the base of his neck.
