Feng Ley
"Oh darling, I don't need magic to be enchanting."
Nickname: N/A Age: 38 Gender: Male Race: Human Origin: Native Role: Alchemy teacher at the Arch of Ages – potions, to be exact |
Character Traits
Hair Color/Style: Thick, golden locks that reach the middle of his back, wavy and getting wavier the closer they are to the tips. Multiple styles worn.
Eye color: A vibrant, golden amber – and alright, they might have been brown originally, but what kind of an alchemist couldn't do such a simple trick, huh?
Skin Color: Fair
Body Type: Tall, slender, slightly feminine though he has enough shoulders that most wouldn't be mistaking his sex. Might be slender, but he is very much the "skinny fat" type of person with barely any muscle and he is much softer than one would think. His stomach especially has started to develop a small but noticeable paunch thanks to his sedentary lifestyle and all those tasty treats. His opinion on whether he's hideously fat or if the ones making fun of his weight are just jealous haters is constantly changing, depending on the situation.
Clothing - Detailed Appearance:
Oh, clothing. Feng has a lot of clothes and it would be just awful to wear the same outfit twice in a row! He's particularly into clothes that show wealth and status: high quality, extravagant and well, often quite expensive. He is no stranger to jewelry, either. A scent of perfume often lingers around him One might also notice the fact that his left hand tends to always have a glove on, reaching all the way up to his elbow. The glove itself might change, but there's always something there.
Feng is 6'1" tall, though he often gets a few extra inches from his shoes, and his weight is a s-e-c-r-e-t. Always clean shaven and more or less hairless from the neck down, even looking quite youthful considering his age – but that is thanks to his use of make-up and various beauty products rather than him having achieved eternal youth. In case he actually is seen without make-up, it's probably better to not point out any wrinkles.
His face does look slightly feminine, but it has rather sharp, angular features to it, with a strong jaw and a clefted chin. His nose, meanwhile, is quite dainty with a straight, narrow bridge, the tip slightly upturned. Normally the man's eyelashes are quite light in color, but he tends to paint them with kohl to make them darker. Feng's fingers are long and slim, his nails long and manicured. While his body is mostly spotless and free of blemishes, his left arm from elbow down is covered in what seem like scars from burning and irregular dark spots one might see on a person suffering from Manna corruption. The skin is quite numb, too – but digging something deep enough into his flesh will definitely be felt.
Personality:
Feng is very much a diva. Overdramatic, overemotional and with a need to look his best via extravagant clothing, he certainly is rather much to take in at once. A social butterfly who has the ability to blend in situations that even deal with those of high class, one might even assume him to be a man of noble birth. But if there's one thing Feng is, then it is being very opinionated. Oh he has many opinions and he's not afraid to voice them or defend them with a sharp tongue, if need to be. He does understand what manners and taboos are – but he does not care for them. He does what he wants, and if someone has a problem? Oh, they can tell him. But he's not going to just sit there and take it. He doesn't have to be everyone's friend. Infamy is something he can revel in – as long as there are no rumors about him that he actually dislikes!
Flamboyant and perhaps a bit… Simple, at times, one might also easily assume the man to be an idiot. You know, one of those nobles who know no real skills and have gotten everything they have ever wanted in life by just wanting it to happen. In some cases, perhaps his intelligence is lacking slightly. However, Feng is a highly capable alchemist, understanding rather difficult chemistry and even having quite a lot more experience of the world than one might initially assume – and he knows that, confident in his abilities. Stupid he is not. He is just… Stubborn, more often than not. And has a very bad head for money. He's usually broke after buying some luxury goods he cannot afford.
But he is definitely not stupid enough to go bop a king on the nose and assume nothing would come out of it, even though he's quite quick to anger. Sometimes, begrudgingly, he knows when he has to shut up for his own good. And sometimes people he respects enough can get him to actually behave for a while – just as a favor, they'll definitely owe him!
While Feng might be a bit jealous of those who can actually use magic, he is not going to let his lack of magic hold him back. And really, he hasn't let it stop him this far in any way. He is very much the kind of a strong independent human who needs no magic kind of fellow – but that doesn't mean he can't be interested in magic. Indeed, he quite enjoys studying it, figuring out its secrets. The Fated, those too are a rather interesting subject to him… Worthy of a few experiments, he would say.
As a teacher, the students might hope for him to be laid back and lazy, considering that he enjoys lazing around and spending a lot of time on things like, oh, his hair. Unfortunately for the students, Feng is passionate about his subject. So passionate in fact, that he is extremely strict and requires near perfection before he is content with the output of the students. If someone tries their best but has trouble? He can actually be quite understanding and mellow, but he expects results after some tutoring. If someone doesn't care or is trying to make a mockery of his class? All hell breaks loose and the words aren't spared on the ensuing verbal smackdown.
He does always make sure to have as few early morning classes as possible, though.
Likes: Clothes, shoes, luxury, jewelry, shopping, looking good, long hot baths, sweet treats, gossip, playfully teasing others, lazing around, coming up with new alchemy recipes
Dislikes: Dirt, being ordered around, last season's fashion, untrue rumors about himself, early mornings, mediocrity, majority of the people who dare to disagree with him, most rules because they are dumb, being called old, women in titillating outfits that reveal way too much

Combat & Inventory
Spells Abilities:
Ability One: Knows His Potions
His life dedicated to the craft, Feng knows the ways of alchemy. The equipment, the procedures, the qualities of various ingredients and where to find them… With a good amount of intuition and experience that allows his to make something new rather than only follow in the footsteps of others. He is a teacher of the subject, after all.
(Mechanically, he needs the knowledge and skills to actually do his job so I guess it's worth the ability slot even though he doesn't have any actual potion skills yet. This ability won't allow him to actually use potions in a thread or give another character a skill until Feng actually has bought them from the shop! We'll just uh, pretend he can do them in-character…)
Ability Two: Keen Tongue
Feng's sense of taste is above the norm. He's especially good about that when it comes to alchemy and the ingredients, figuring out potency and what something is made out of with a taste. It's no way to get a perfect idea as to how one might make something, but it's something. He's tasted many things and remembers their taste. Even poisonous things. That hasn't always worked out so well.
(Still empty until more things are bought)
Combat: Combat? Please, Feng doesn't bother with such. He'd be quite helpless in a battle, in fact. He does have a rather good throwing arm, though. He can most likely hit that wolf's head from safety – if you're willing to handle the consequences.

Inventory Bag:
- Firestick – a small tube tube made of dark wood that is quite similar to a tube of lipstick in form, small enough that it could easily fit inside Feng's closed palm. It is actually a magical item: a sharp flick will ignite one of the ends with a small flame, easily put out by blowing on it.
- Beauty products
- Like, a lot of fancy clothes…
- And shoes...
- Can't forget the accessories either! Jewelry, scarves, hats, gloves…
- Alchemical tools that really can't be transported easily
- Mortar and pestle, stone – can actually be easily transported!
Biography
History:
Feng is not one who shares his history with anyone. He actually was not born in the land of Teair, coming from overseas from another country – a fact that someone might suspect, his intonation occasionally just a bit off in his speech, even if he manages to mask it most of the time. Rather surprisingly, considering his personality, Feng was actually born a commoner. And not just any commoner. No, he was born on a farm, to a poor family of farmers, in the middle of nowhere.
They were nobodies and Feng – well, he wasn't even called that back then – was no different. He was… Mediocre. The middle child, no special qualities or abilities. No magic, either, having been born completely lacking the ability. But the boy never had enjoyed mediocrity, not wishing for his life to be that. Where he was, there was no future. It wasn't what he wanted.
So, when he barely made it to the double digits in years, he decided to run away.
Obviously it wasn't the easiest of lives after that, especially when he wanted to avoid being caught and returned to his family. He was penniless. A child with no real skills. Starving and cold – especially in the countryside. It was why he did his best to get to the closest large city as quickly as possible, where he assumed it would be easier to make a living. That assumption wasn't exactly on the mark, but with more people, there certainly were more opportunities. And definitely more food.
One thing led to another and the young Feng actually managed to score a roof above his head, as a lowly servant to an alchemist. This relationship soon was even elevated to full on apprenticeship and was where the boy learned the basics of his craft. Of course with Feng being Feng, it didn't last very long. He dreamed bigger, like he always did. He wanted more and he wasn't entirely on board with being just an apprentice. No, he grew sick and tired of it eventually. He wanted to do things his way.
Perhaps even more surprisingly, Feng also has been an adventurer in his life before he settled down in Teair. Never alone and always in a group of some sort, he traveled the world and experienced its sights. He practiced his alchemy all the way through, his own experiments usually… Questionable, but somehow he has managed to survive and learn. And learn he has, getting closer and closer the peak of human capabilities with every passing year. And he is not planning to stop there – he wants to surpass that!
One of his wilder experiments back in the day had to deal with Manna. Oh, of course he wanted to study and experiment on that fabled substance that refused to be tamed. Reminds him of himself, really. And, well, as a person with no magical capabilities, it might have always been a… Dream of some sort, to find the recipe that would give people such as himself the power of magic. While he managed to refine some sort of version that didn't instantly explode in his face and was actually liquid, injecting it into his left arm did not give the desired results.
It also did not result in the loss of his arm, even though he had prepared for it – he did target the arm that wasn't his primary, after all. The tourniquet kept the solution from spreading to the rest of his body, but the effects on his arm were only negative. The darkening of his skin was almost like that of Manna corruption – a very rapid version of it – but it never developed into its more advanced stages. Perhaps because Feng lacked the Manna channels in his body. Whatever it was, the marks stayed, but they did not spread nor did he develop the sickness.
After that he retired from the adventuring and crazy experiments for a while, eventually settling on Teair and even scoring himself a job at the Arch of Ages, where he still teaches to this day.
Family:
Father – Unnamed Father – Deceased (Old Age)
Mother – Unnamed Mother – Deceased (Old Age)
Siblings – Four older ones, four younger ones. Sisters, brothers. It wasn't a small family. Perhaps not all of them are alive at this point anymore.
Relatives – With such a large family? A lot by now, surely. Feng most likely doesn't even know most of them – not that it matters so much, considering that they're most likely not even on Teair!
Children – None
Relationship: Single
