It was the Harvest sun season, the first day of Sato. The castle rather quiet even though it was right before dusk. The red, yellow, and orange hues of the sunset painting the horizon sky as the sun lowered to the tree line. The sun’s golden rays shining through every spaced window in the castle, down the hall that lead up to the always locked door in the west wing. The enchanted door only opening to two keys; One key which Lilith had and the one that belonged to the man standing in front of the door….
Noku stared at the wooden grain of the door, hesitant to put his key into the lock and turn the handle. It took a bit of encouragement on his own part to finally put the small silver key into the lock and open the door. His breath caught in this throat, forming a lump. He gulped upon pushing the door forward. Not really sure what to expect upon entering the chambers. It had been so long since he had last visited…. He had almost forgotten why he neglected to do so when he saw the visage of the woman sitting upright in her bed Her cloudy blue eyes seeming to look right at him as she spoke softly. “ Hello? Lilith is that you?” Luca asked, A unsure look on her features until finally a bright smile appeared. “ Cain my love is that you?! “ There it was; the reason why he didn’t visit so often…
His mother hated him; And because she couldn’t see, he could get close to her as him.
The thought put a bitter taste in his mouth, but he didn’t answer her. Instead, he only took a few steps closer to the bedside, and extended his gloved hand for her to take hold of. Which Luca did so with little hesitation. The older woman reaching out to take the gloved hand and her face brightened. “ Oh Cain, I knew you would come back to visit me. Please my king, Please speak to me once again. I miss you. “ Luca plead, tightening her weak grip around his hand. “ Will you not speak to me still? “ Luca spoke in a distraught tone as Noku continued to hold his hand out to her in complete silence.

Lilith had finished her routine hours ago; she always visited Luca just after lunch and stayed for at least 2-3 hours at a time. Today hadn't been any different, except that Luca had been enjoying the book Lilith had been reading to her; since they had almost finished it that afternoon, Lilith promised to return that night once all her other duties were taken care of. Lilith hated feeling "overdressed" when she visited Luca; even though the woman couldn't see her, she felt more comfortable dressed as the part. This is why she was dressed in a very plain white and baby blue gown, the fabrics light and airy, perfectly compatible with the fresh Sato air. Her long platinum hair was draped around her, down completely that day. Over her shoulder she had a small satchel, different than the one that could hold everything, and inside it was the book she promised Luca the would finish, an extra book and drawing supplies.
Lilith made her way down to the secret room, pushing he key into the lock, humming to herself, softly. She stopped when she heard Luca’s voice before she opened the door. “I miss you… … Will you not speak to me still?” Who was she talking to? Lilith was the only one who ever come down her aside from nurses; none of which could speak to her. On her guard, Lilith pushed the door open slowly, exhaling in relief when she saw the familiar white haired male holding her patients hand. She paused in the door, not yet having made a sound, and looked at the picture in front of her. Noku with his gloved hand delicately wrapped around his mothers. A small smile reached her lips. She wasn’t sure how to announce herself without destroying the picture in front of her, or at the very least startling him, so Lilith simply turned to close the door behind her, the quite “click” definitely audible in the now silent room. She turned back to the pair, a small smile on her face as she locked eyes with Noku, not speaking yet. She knew he never came down her; she knew his mother believed that he was his father… she couldn’t just greet him out loud, so instead she smiled at him, hopefully getting across what she couldn’t with words.

Listening to the clicking sound of the door closing, the near-sighted woman's ears perked up, "Lilith my child, is that you now?" her head turned to the direction of the door, her hand keeping a slight grip on her dearest Cain's hand. Her cloudy blue eyes blinked at the door as she waited a response. "Oh be a dear and come meet my dear sweet Cain..." her grip tightened as much as her frail body could allow "If I had known you would meet under these circumstances... of course I would have prepared a more, pleasant arrangement....unfortunately my sweet Cain is being quite a pain... yet again." she loosened her grip from weakness. "My love hasn't spoken to me in years..." she let out a heavy sigh, a burden growing in her chest, a longing for love. "Cain, please now don't be rude to our guest, whatever you may hold against me, please do not project it on our lovely guest." The old woman would let go of his hand, gently caressing his glove. She gestured to the other side of the room with hopes that they speak.
"My child," she spoke with as much enthusiasm as she could muster "Meet my sire, Cain. He isn't one for too many words... unfortunately I haven't had the privilege to be graced with his kind voice." she let out another heavy sigh. "Oh but please dear, do come sit down." she said patting the place next to her. "My sweet, this wonderful child makes for such great company, she really is a delight." she addressed Cain. "Oh dear Lilith, please do tell me that you remembered to bring the book. I do want to see how it ends." a smile curled on her face, creating wrinkles and crevices in her old face.

Noku looked up from Luca the moment he heard the sound of the door opening. He froze where he stood, his eyes going slightly wide as he watched Lilith close the door behind her. He had almost forgotten she was his mother's care taker after all this time. His comfortably with her had made him relaxed; The countless nights spent with one another since trial had made him completely dismiss she was also a worker of his palace. His golden eyes fell to his mother the moment she chimed up. Her words cutting into him like a knife as she introduced him as Cain.
His head lowered a bit in shame, grateful she had released his hand from her grip for him to take a few steps back away from the bed. When the former queen, his mother, had asked him to speak. Noku remained silent just as he entered her chambers. His expression grim even though he was glad to see the woman he was becoming rather fond of over the passing months. Noku's eyes falling to her belly as he gave his partner a nod in greetings. A small smile finally appearing on his gloomy features. ' You look lovely' he mouthed to her in silence. He would of spoke, but doing so would blown his cover. So he would have to be creative with communicating during the visit. He would have to mouth his words carefully or write them down for her to read.
While he was contemplating on ways to communicate with Lilith, Luca spoke up again. This time mentioning a book. His attention turned to the two ladies as he looked at Lilith to understand what his mother meant. He had no idea his mother enjoyed stories... Which slightly intrigued him to want to stay and watch a bit longer. He had never seen his mother so animated around a person since she had been locked away in this special chamber built for her by his father.

As Luca spoke up; Lilith had had a feeling she wouldn’t stay hidden for long; Lilith smiled softly. Yes your Highness, I’m back. I told you I would be. Lilith chuckled lightly for her, knowing any change of emotion could tip her off; she was almost blind, but she definitely wasn’t stupid. She locked eyes with the man who was most certainly not Cain, as Luca went on about how she should meet him, despite the silent treatment. She smiled sadly at her love; there was nothing either of them could do to change what she believed, not unless he wanted to tell the truth, which Lilith knew and understood was a very slim chance. Don’t worry yourself, meeting like this is just fine… But I beg you not to hold it against him Your Highness… Lilith walked slowly to the bed, as she always did, perching lightly on the end as usual. Luca never made a move to touch her whens she sat there, but it had come to comfort her, knowing Lilith was there. As she sat there, a hand automatically went to her mildly protruding stomach; a reflex at this point to comfort herself. The situation was a bit nerve-racking she wouldn't lie. She hadn't told Luca yet of her pregnancy, but she knew soon enough the Queen would be able to tell; her hearing a lot better than most.
Lilith looked at Noku as the emotions displayed on his face played out; it hurt him being called his fathers name, imaginably so. She smiled as he mouthed words to her, her own lips forming the words “Thank you” before an idea dawned on her. Lilith pulled out her sketchbook and a quill from her bag, and opened it to a blank page, quietly writing for a moment. When she was complete, she handed it to him, turning to continue speaking to Luca. On it said;
I know this can’t be easy for you, but I am so proud of you. I love you.
While he read that, Lilith began speaking again. It seems that your beloved has a tickle in his throat; that would be why he isn’t speaking. It doesn’t take much talking to hurt the throat more; and you know as well as I do, a King losing his voice must be avoided. Lilith spoke sweetly, but also factually, trying to sway the Lost Queen from continuing to put down the fake Cain. When Luca mentioned the book, she glanced at Noku again, a cute grin on her face as she began to speak again, both confirming to Luca and explaining to Noku. Of course I did- I’ve never broken a promise to you, have I? Lilith opened her back again, pulling out the novel Luca seemed to intrigued by. It was a small brown leather bound book, the title etched into the cover with golden coloured ink. “The Prince and the Pauperess.” Mildly ironic.
I will begin reading whenever you ask, but She turned her attention back to Noku, smiling softly before continuing. Would you like to join us, Your Majesty..? Lilith asked softly, not calling him Cain, nor Noku. She was skirting the truth ever so carefully. I’m sure it would make her very happy; she spends time with you so rarely… Lilith nudged lightly, but telling him with her facial expression that it was okay to say no.

Luca's excitement couldn't be contained. Though her strength was limited due to her illness, she still mustered up enough strength to be her animated self around Lilith. The girl brought her much joy, and her company was much appreciated. Though Luca still wonders what happened to Mysteria and often thinks of her as she has all the time in the world to think, since her help isn't much for conversation. Luca smiled a bright smile upon hearing Lilith's excitement to be back, but sensed that her Cain had distanced himself from her... once again, she sighed. Her husband really did frustrate her. Luca brushed off the feelings of longing for her husband, and set it aside so she could focus on better company. "Well now, look at you defending my sire, and you only just met! her smile returned "You see my love, I told you that this wonderful girl was good company."
Luca felt the movement of the bed and heard the rustling of the sheets as Lilith sat down, for some reason there seemed to be a heaviness about the girl that hadn't been there before. Luca arched an eyebrow, and waited for the silence to be broken for an explanation. Instead she received an explanation as to why her King hadn't been responsive that day. "Why my dear Lilith, a sore throat cannot be ideal for royalty." she said with a hint of sarcasm. "Unfortunately for my dear husband that if this be the case, he has had a sore throat for years..." Luca didn't buy it. If the man had a sore throat, she would hear him clearing his throat often. Nonetheless, she brushed it off as it seemed that her king's speaking was making for unpleasant conversation. "Needless to say my sire, I love you no matter the silence. I know that our love has overcome many obstacles, and this is only another barrier." the sincerity in her voice was apparent as she set her hand next to her on the bed, a simple but kind gesture.
Luca's attention was brought back to Lilith when she made mention of promises. "My dear you have been nothing but faithful in fulfilling your promises." the smile returned to her cheeks. Luca listened to the tone of Lilith's voice as she asked the king if he would like to join them. "Oh please my love," she began "I do think that you would enjoy this story. It really is well written, and I know how much you loved when I read you stories..." her lack of vision has made life difficult, she used to love reading novels on her own, and even more so when Cain joined her. She hoped that the begging tone in her voice would sway Cain to stay for longer, to have the chance to get to know her care-giver. She awaited his response.
