The Task of Wit
The winds outside howled, and the smell of an oncoming storm hung heavy in the air. Flashes of lighting caused by heat could be seen out over an angry see. It was the night of a new moon, one could barely see the fingers on their own hand. Inside the temple was silent, not a soul wandered the halls tonight. If you wandered threw the halls you would soon come to a room which had seen some neglect in the passing year. Inside a once beautiful statue of a gorgeous woman sat crumbled on its pedestal. Her features no longer recognizable. The room was dark; so you could only catch glimpses of the sad state of the room between flashes of light. On one such flash you would notice that seven sheets of paper sat in an out stretched hand; in the other a bottle of ink and a quill. Upon another flash you may notice an empty bowl at the crumpled statues feet.
Thieves quest is invite only, if you did not receive an invite and feel like your character should join, pm me. You will not get in on this quest, but when I do a second round of thieves quests I'll make sure to include you.
For those that have joined you are welcome to participate or choose not to. Fallow the clues and if you choose wisely then the next part of the quest will be revealed. Keep your answers in rp form; you do not have to form groups, for the most part this quest will be done on an individual basis. So post your response as if no one else is there. This also means no posts turns, so take your time! Good Luck!

Amiee was not going to lie since the moment she gotten the riddle for the most part it made sense, go to the moon temple find the room that once dictated to Venessa. Though the next part didn’t make much sense tell the stone which was fixed it didn’t make much sense at all. Still she been at it all day, in between wiping tables and cleaning she would look back at the riddle looking at the letters that made no sense what so ever.
Now she was at the moon temple, she felt a headache coming on from the overthinking. She was dressed in a dark forest green cloak allowing her to blend a bit with the darkness. Her shoes were silent against the stone as she made it to the room that was meant for Vennese the Goddess of Passion and Lust. Looking up at the statue as flash of lighting brighten up the room she saw some sheets of paper in her hand and a bottle of ink and a quill. Quickly walking up she grabbed the ink and the quill.
Waiting for another flash of lighting using the light she saw an empty bowl at the feet. Sticking her tongue out as she took out the paper with the riddle. It had taken her some time to read it and even then, some words were strange that had to ask her father for the meaning. Taking a seat on the floor she careful doing her best to write out the letters ‘Nrhurgh Ulfmw’ it still came out in a messy script but it legible at least and that’s all that mattered. “Okay Amiee you can do this.”
Reading the riddle over again she started to rearrange the letters in the word so that the first letter came last and the second letter came first. Then she switched the words around, her tongue stuck out as she kept writing down her thoughts wondering if she was even on the right track of if she was just writing non-sense. By time she got to the end she looked at what she had and realize that it may look like a word but it was still spelt wrong. Crossing it out and trying once again from the beginning, she kept repeating this over and over each time not finding the answer that made sense at least in her mind. Pulling out her hair ribbons she kept her hair fall back as she went and looked out the window wondering what could she be missing.
After maybe another hour pass she was about to give them and just leave the letter in the bowl when the answers came to her. Quickly re-reading the letter a smile came to her lips as she smiled thinking that she got it or at least she hoped she did. Taking the paper that she had written everything down on she scratched it all out and slipped it over. Using some of the dust that had gathered on the floor remembering something her mother had told her and she quickly writing it out and went though the motions of solving it. “King of Thieves I hope this is right and you can read this.” She said as wrote ‘Misfits found’ while giggling a bit to herself for all her over thinking. Placing it in the bowl as she brushed her foot over the dust covering up answers she wrapped her hair ribbon around her arms and pulled her hood back up, leaving the room. “I guess I just need to wait now.” She said to herself as she left the room since she had to get home and sleep a bit before she had to get up and start work once again.

As soon as the paper drifted into the bowl, the small slip would catch flame. The small burst of light startling. A few moments passed with nothing but the sound of sizzling and popping, but before Amiee could leave the room a strange shimmer began to appear around her. The orange gold shimmer rises up the walls, seemingly taking the dust and crumbled rock away. The light in the room rises; what once could only be seen between flashes of lighting could be made out clearly as though it was day. The statue was whole once more.
”Congratulations Amiee” An echoing un recognizable voice seemed to shift around the room. It was like listening to multiple people at once; who was talking was indiscernible, but yet they were still understandable. ’You’ve completed the first task and have successfully accepted to face the challenges that come. A thief’s job is not a safe one; and information is to be guarded well. Remember what you have learned for it may serve as a key in the future. Go to where the common man drowns his sorrows. Seek the bear for your next task.’ The voice ended and as suddenly as the room had changed, it was back to its original crumbled ruins.
However in the bowl, instead of ash, Amiee would find a small pile of coins and a little wooden figure of a hanging man.

Gunther walked cautiously along the streets at night, his left arm firmly gripping a torch that dimly lit the path before him, the flame flickering in the howling wind as he tried to keep it from going out. His sword rattled at his side, his right hand wrapped around the pommel in case he needed to defend himself. He was wary of every dark corner and turn; the old man did not trust this message, but if it truly was some sort of invitation from the fabled "King of Theives" then he could only imagine the amount of coin involved in whatever transpired...and suspicious as he was, Gunther was willing to risk a LOT in order to get a payout as big as the one he imagined.
He stopped as he came to the entrance to the temple, reaching into his pouch to produce the letter he was given, along with it's code. Stepping inside to get out of the wind, his eyes squinted over the parchment and he read the note aloud.
"The only clue to the code you seek, is to know that what may have come first now comes last. The tables have turned and roles are reversed. How cryptic...and more then a little bothersome."
Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted the statue that had been marred by time and disrepair. He spent a moment to reflect on the statue, looking it it's faceless features with a grim look on his face. He felt like he could relate to this statue in a way; a once important figure now eroded and changed with time, it's past glory a memory. He scoffed at himself after having this thought.
"I must be getting soft if I'm brooding on the past like a sentimental fool."
He walked over to where the sheets were, finding a matching one to his note. He pulled his out and scanned it again, his brain racking itself to find the solution. His thoughts lingered again to old glory as he looked at the statue...and something clicked. He had seen code similar to this before, and had worked with code as both a mercenary and a knight. The sneakier types loved to interact with encrypted messages, ciphers, and strange symbols to guarantee secrecy.
"Clever bastards. Let's see which encryption type you used."
He sat there for some time, trying to flip letters, hold the candle up to the page to see if invisible ink was being used. After several tries, the answer slowly began to form; the parchment was a deceiving and straightforward and the same time. He could only be impressed by the cleverness. Taking the quill and ink, he dabbed it carefully, and in elegant handwriting, wrote the words "Darkness Guides" on the paper. When this was done, he drew a knife and stabbed it hard into the sheet right above where he had signed the solution to the puzzle, a message and warning in case they tried to rip him off....or ambush him. With that, he started to leave the temple, bracing himself to get out into the storm.
"Now for some warm food, cold ale, and a pretty wench to keep me company on a stormy night...."

As soon as Cynthia received the mysterious letter she would rush over to the moon temple, she had heard many tales about it from across the sea of the events that had been occurring at the moon temple. It seems she arrived there before anyone else. she whistled to hear the echos of the temple, She walked over to the statue of, her heels clicking against the floor. "Mor’nan...(Venessa).." Saying her name as people from Pherana would. "This must be where your statue was.."
She decided to wear the outfit she uses as the oracle to solve this, after all she didn't want anyone else finding out her real identity besides this king of thieves, who was clearly trying to make contact with her. As the doors of the temple opened behind Cynthia she quickly threw her feathers at the roof and used them as an impromptu hook-shot. 'that was close..' she thought to herself while sighing a quietly.
she watched closely as the girl spent a long time trying to decipher the message. Cynthia herself was trying but it was a pain in the arse if she had to admit it. She sat there for hours wondering what the code was. She began to think to herself again 'Ugh. I Must be overthinking this..' As Amiee was writing her notes down, Cynthia was copying them to see what the girl's thought process must be. However it didnt help for very long, as the girl seemingly figured out the answer Cynthia cringed 'How could she have gotten it before me? that girl must be good at riddles..interesting.' she waited until the girl left before lowering herself once more.
After some time of observing the notes she copied she noticed something, besides the poor handwriting, there was something she wrote that stood out to her It was then that it all clicked. "Ah i see..your a tricky one aren't you king..." Cynthia decided to write her answer down on the paper after solving the riddle and placed her answer carefully in the bowl and said it aloud as well "Rose winds" she said in a clear and concise voice.

It took Ruby a great portion of the day to figure out the more basic points. Being that she only recently appeared in this world and didn't really have a chance to explore between her arrival, meeting Isenwulfa, and then that big battle with those damned undead. It was lucky that someone was able to do that thing last minute preventing the world from imploding. Ya know? Like the hero always does in stories.
By the time she finally figured it out, it was fairly late in the day. By the time she finally got there it was well into the night. She lit up a Torch and began to explore the halls. She swears she went down every hallway at least twice before she finally stumbled across a room that was unlike the others with a ruined statue.
"WELP!" She says aloud, her word echoing in the deathly silence. "This must be the place. Sure is spooky enough."
She took a few steps in, her Torch light flickering across the few items inside. The statue seemed to be holding a few sheets of paper, and a vial of ink and a quill. At the statues feet was a bowl. "Oh...I don't just....say it?" Not that she really knew what she was suppose to say. She looks around and finds a seat near a corner, in a place where she can prop her torch near her without burning anything. She mulls over the jumble of letters for a while before she finally drafts up what she thinks might be correct. She had no idea what Mylees was. She mentally shrugged and stood up, writing out 'Mylee's Blueballs' on a scrap of paper and dumped it into the bowl.

Serenity had stared at the letter for hours, going from sunlight to candle light. Of course she was interested. How couldn't she be? Plus, Serenity hated not knowing the answers to riddles, so she obviously couldn't stop until she figured it out. She repeated the letter over and over, writing the riddle out until it was committed to memory. She figured out that she needed to go to the Moon Temple pretty quickly; that was the easy part. Though she hadn't been there since she'd fallen into this world. So that would be fun. What she couldn't get for the longest time, is what was supposed to come first... She thought maybe the capitalized letters were really the last letters of the words, but that made no sense... Then she just tried to unscramble them, but they were obviously missing letters.
It was morning when she figured it out. It had taken her a full night of frustration, some tears and a bit of ranting to nothing but thin air, but she'd figured it out. Wanting to get everything moving, Serenity changed out of her clothes into a fresh gown, black in colour with a hood. Her long autumn coloured hair rested on both shoulders, spilling from the ebony hood like a fire waterfall.
She arrived at the Moon temple around noon, not seeing a single person. She wandered in slowly, coming across what she could only assume was the fallen statue she was supposed to go to. She spotted the bowl with ripped bits of paper in it, different phrases on all of them. Holding her breath, she looked down at the one in her hand, her delicate printing scribbled across it. "The Raven Flies." She placed it into the bowl and let out her breath...

Commoner

Post by Xander Amzina on Jun 1, 2017 23:08:27 GMT
Upon receiving the letter Xander had found himself thrilled. He loved intellectual challenge, and this would help the long days seem quick right? Xander, upon reading it figured out the location rather quickly, and began heading in the direction. The moon temple? Xander wondered what was going to be there.
Xander looked at the coded information on the letter, and began thinking about different ciphers, if they used any common ones, he could use process of elimination. It wasn't as if the average commoner knew about code ciphers, let alone multiples. With the knowledge of his previous studies, he was able to decipher it in a good amount of time. It took longer than usual thanks to the short message, he was hoping for something longer, which allowed you to pinpoint repeats in the code, and break it a little bit easier.
"Utter Gibbernonsence?" That in itself sounded like nonsense.
Xander shrugged and made his way to the destination.
For the rest of the travel Xander found himself experimenting with different ciphers, coming up with his own. It was fun, and it passed the time, and he really liked substituting the letters for numbers.
With a wry smile he made his way to the temple. He wasn't quite sure what kind of test this was, but found himself entertained at the challenge. Was he allowed to challenge back he thought?
Upon making it to the temple Xander found the rest straightforward.
He began writing onto the piece of parchment, which he was preparing to drop into the bowl at the foot of the statue.
Xander grabbed a second piece of parchment papers and began writing the alphabet, interlaced with a set of a numbers.
He then wrote down a formula, and a placed tag. He spent a few hours interpreting the code, and when he was done he took the second paper with his algorithm, and placed it into his pocket.
"Utter Gibbernonsence" He wrote, and then followed with numbers, in beautiful handwriting. "17031 15026 41044 35010 2105 9036 29043 2909 1108 9029 53011 29034 49042 5307 9021 15013 39012 1018 9014 37032 103 29039 2704 35040 9024 27022 35028 27035 53041 53033 53025 13023 5016 15017 1502 53037 23019 3901 9027 11038 53030 3706 23020 53015"
Xander then dropped the paper with the answer, and encoded reply into the bowl.

Post by Lucinda Noru on Jun 7, 2017 6:18:25 GMT
Lucinda had been quite surprised to receive the letter from the King of Thieves. At first, she thought there must be some mistake. She was a princess, after all, and not even from Nova. But then, it had her name on it. She wasn't sure what talents this 'King' thought she had that he might find useful, but she had to admit she was intrigued. She knew little of the group, though there had been whispers. In the end, curiosity won out and the princess sat down to work out the code.
It took her quite a while, and her desk was a mess of parchment balls and ink when she finished, but finally Lucinda thought she had the secret message figured out. Although, it didn't make much sense to her. Getting to the Moon Temple was going to be the tricky part. She couldn't have guards go with her, of course. Then she remembered she had an invisibility cloak. Lucinda dressed in a black tunic, with black leggings and boots. She grabbed the cloak and made sure she had the magic bracelet from Adrain that created an ice bow. The princess whistled for Ally, her house dragon. "I need you to come with me to the Moon Temple," she requested, pulling out a map and showing Ally the way.
Using the cloak made sneaking out of the castle easy and once she was in town, the dark alleys hid her well enough. Lucinda made her way to the Moon Temple by cover of darkness and storm, the rain just starting to really come down by the time she made it there. Stepping inside, she lowered the hood on her cloak and made her way through the temple. Eventually, she reached the room with the statue of the Goddess Vennessa. Lucinda heard the rumors of her falling and the statue she found was broken, with a little bowl. The paper and ink confirmed that she was in the right place. She took the quill and gently scribbled out 'Zepons Twisted Titties' in a delicate hand and placed the paper in the bowl.
