Amiee heard the voice and looked around wondering where it came from not finding anything she replayed the riddle in her head. She almost wanted her head against the wall because she was just home. Though before she left she picked up the little figure of the hanging man and the small pile of gold.
Walking home she entered like normal and since it was still night she quickly changed back into her simple night grown. Grabbing her stuff cat she walked to her father’s bedroom knowing that he was most likely still asleep, pushing open the door. She walked up to the bed shaking him away. “Papa… can I can’t sleep…” Her voice a bit quiet as she waited for an answer, before she confronts him about knowing the king of thieves and never telling her anything about it.

Welcome to Gallows Inn Tavern
part II of the Thieves Quest
It was late, the busy hours had come and gone leaving only a few stragglers or those who were just too drunk to move. Calix eyed those who were there, most of them regulars. Others he had gathered were travelers from various outlining towns. In about an hour he’d be tossing the ones not staying for the night out on the streets; but for now he’d be beginning the process of cleaning up for the night. Earlier that week he had been informed that the boss was conducting a little recruitment test. Building up the core group so to speak. Apparently the dunder head bandits the boss had running around right now were …less then competent. This time the boss wanted recruits with some heads on their shoulders; gods bless them; that was a hard thing to find. Most people in third district knew how to do a task or two and little else. So he’d be lying if he wasn’t curious to see who the King of Thieves would dig up. He HAD been told what was expected of the poor saps that were getting the run around; in fact part of what was needed was posted up on the wall. Mixed in with various wanted posters; one of which had a large X across it. Being that female that had been caught; it was a shame she had represented Ai. The girl had done little for the position she had fought to get. He looked up to see a gentleman burst through the door, glare, and go about his own thing. Shortly after his Amiee came into the tavern. He raised an eyebrow; odd for her to be out so late. He nodded to her as she went upstairs. Likely go to go to bed. Which he’d be doing soon as well. It was an hour or so before he cleaned up and tossed the stragglers outside. He went up to his room and got ready to go to bed. He was JUST laying down when he heard a knock on his door and the familiar sound of his daughter’s voice. He would have figured she’d be asleep by now. He walked over to the door and opened it. ”Come on in, I’m curious anyways to why you were out so late.”

She waited patiently until the door was open, her arms hugging her stuff cat, watching the door open she took the invite and walked in taking a seat on the bed. Moving the stuff animal to her lap she thought about the question she had more than thought that he assumed that she was out talking to the stray cats then again, once she had gotten home she had seen a lot of people that she wasn’t used to seeing. Though she didn’t see any reason to completely lie to her father about where she was and why she was out late. “I went to the Moon Temple. I got a letter and followed it.”
Taking a moment to pause she looked up at her father, remembering the what happened after she got the answer to the riddle. It had said to go where the common man drowns his sorrows, which meant a tavern and most people who were poor came here. Then it said to seek the bear, the bear was her father that she knew but it did make her question why she had to find him. “A statue spoke to me, and told me to come home and seek the bear. Papa?” Taking a deep breath trying to mutter up enough courage for the next part. “How do you know the King of Thieves?” Her voice quiet and soft, as she looked away not sure to expect or even if she was ready for the answer.

He blinked; why on earth was she at the moon temple and who could be sending his daughter weird notes? ”You really should tell me if you’re getting strange letters before you fallow them; it’s not safe for a girl to go out at such a late hour.” Really he worried about her choices sometimes. It wasn’t that Amiee couldn’t potentially take care of herself…but she had no real training in self-defense. The only thing she had going for her was phiorics tended to be a bit stronger and made of quicker stuff then most mortals. Problem was that not all of nova was made of human folk…….Then she said it…. It instantly clicked exactly who sent his daughter the note…..HIS DAUGHTER! Calix’s face first drained of color of being caught, and then grew red. ”BY MYLEES BEARD! That twisted little imp!” He stood up and ran large hand over his face; some earlier instructions finally making sense. He grumbled about twisted nut jobs as he walked over to his nightstand. Opening it and pulling out a letter. He popped the originally sealed letter open and read its contents and sighed. He walked back over to Amiee. ”I’m not allowed to disclose that to yee yet lass. Unfortunately the King is a very secretive soul; there are …certain restrictions.” He ran a hand threw his hair; he was really unhappy about this. But he suppose he had asked for this in a way. ”I will not stop you if you want to go through with this; though I’d be lying if I didn’t say I had hoped you’d be placed on a more honest path….especially with you courting a noble and all. But as far as the twisted path goes, you could choose worse…The King is dangerous if you cross them though; you’d be taking orders, and likely placed in positions which threaten your safety. It’s not a glamorous life….however, if you do join, you’d find a teacher within the ranks that can train you in a way I cannot.” It seemed his daughter’s loyalty was the price that needed to be paid. The king did not give out things for free. He sat down and handed the letter he had opened to Amiee. ”You still will have to take the Kings test. Though as worried as I am, I do have to say I’m proud of you for passing the first one. That’s no small feat working out one of the Kings word twisters. They are going to get tougher though.”

When she went downstairs to the tavern, she would look around. If she happened to find the board she would see the same note, the others had seen. Upon closer inspection of the board, one would find a mix of items. Mostly pictures of various wanted criminals, a few job adds written on blue pieces of paper, the job adds were mostly tailored for the illiterate folk, blue being the common color then just the persons who was posting the job’s coat of arms. But among the mess was a small discrete piece of paper with one simple message.

“I’m sorry, I promise next time a strange letter show I’m going to tell you.” Amiee did feel bad for making Calix worry about her. To be honest she didn’t even know what she would have done if she did run into trouble she might have had to fight, she couldn’t even bring herself to kill a flying monkey knowing herself she wouldn’t be able to bring herself to harm another person. Waiting for an answer she was a bit surprised when he seemed upset over it. It did make her wonder if she had said something wrong maybe her papa wasn’t involved with the King of Thieves and home was just a resting place until the next letter arrived. Though that quickly changed then he mentioned that he wasn’t allowed to tell her just yet it did give her a little hope that maybe if she could pass all the test she would be able to know more about her papa even if it’s something that he wanted her to know. Reaching out with a few tears welling up in her eyes as she listened to Calix. “You saved me from myself almost seventeen years ago… you also took care of me even after I was almost gone to the other side. I don’t think anything could be as dangerous as that, thought of never taking on a human appearance again.” At this point the tears were flowing like a waterfall, as she smiled a little. “Leon is wonderful and I’m happy he decided to court me… but I know that this place will always be my home… and papa if joining the king and knowing our family secret is a way to help then I’ll do it.” Wiping away the tears as she smiled up at her father hearing that he was proud of her. “I’m sure I can do it papa.” Taking the letter she gave him a tight hug, as she picked up her stuff cat. “I guess I should read this in private huh.” Smiling a bit weakly she gave him one more hug before leaving the room heading to her know. Once back in her room she lit a candle, and found her piece of charcoal Snowflake on her lap as she stuck her tongue out, trying to solve the code. The first line was easy enough though as it got further into the letter it got harder and harder for her to try to keep thing straight. At times she would miss a letter and end up with something that made no sense and have to start over again, though she did figure it out a bit quickly. Giggling a bit as she read the letter the first part was interesting it seemed like the King of Thief felt like that wasn’t up the task at first and her father wasn’t aware of it. It was also interesting to know that it wasn’t her scary looking papa that protected the tavern but the thieves and for the fated she had always thought that it was a priest of Fate or Ai that provided them with the items they needed to help the fated. Reading the second part she did feel a bit threaten she didn’t want anything to happen to her father because she decided to share information that she shouldn’t. Amiee wasn’t going to lie either she was kind of hoping that her father would be able to help her with the next part though she had already learnt that sometimes in life things get thrown at you that can’t be control. Following the letter, still in her nightgown and her stuff animal in her arm she made her way down the stairs. Looking around for anything that could give her a hint she walked around until she came across the boards. She never really looked at the board since it normally was wanted posted, upon closer inspection she saw a piece of paper that didn’t seem to fit in, looking at it she realized that it was another riddle. Quickly solving it since it was much shorter she stared at it for a moment, ‘Knowledge is to be protected.’ She didn’t know how long she sat there staring at the paper when it finally clicked what she needed to do. Picking up another piece of paper she quickly down her answer: Gdl Szoeh Nzpv z Dslov Ulr Nb Zmhdvi
V'yy Cebgrpg gur Xabjyrqtr Once she wrote down her answer going with a slightly different riddle given it was on the first one that she had come up when she was trying to solve the first riddle. Her only thoughts was that she hoped that it was understandable given that she did send it back in a different code than the one used since her mother had mentioned something a long time ago before she passed away that sometimes code words needed to be change so that no one catches on. Finishing up on her slip of paper she checked off that she was staying for one night and walked up to the counter and placed the paper down.
