Sato Month, 747 of the Opal Dragon (Post Morgg Event) After the events of Morgg Arthas made the decision that his talents would be far more useful to the kingdom than the Arch since it seemed Adrain had everything in hand and it would remove him from this Julen's crosshairs so to speak. He had left a letter for Adrain explaining why he was changing his profession and would notify him later of where to send his belongings once he had a address to send them to. He hadn't said anything to Nyx or Aqua, frankly he didn't see the point as they would find out from Adrain sooner or later. He packed up what he could easily carry and started his journey as soon as he was settled on what he had chosen to do.
Upon reaching the City of Nova he found out about the new Laws that were in place to monitor and track mages in the City. He would make a note to go purchase his documentation after he had been seen about the application he was filing to take over the Mage Guard who seemed to have a lack of leadership which was hurting the kingdom's ability to deal with these issues that keep popping up. Due to the nature of the job he was applying for he was instructed he would have to speak with one of the Royal Advisors a woman named Melda something or another that he couldn't remember right off the bat since he wasn't the best with names.
He waited where he was told to though hadn't given up his weapons, the sword and staff on him still, wondering what this Melda person was like and how much he would be able to reveal to them right away and how much he was going to need to keep hidden. While waiting he was writing up plans for what he would propose to the Advisors and King on how to handle mages and the Fated depending on their respective stances on the subjects. From what he could gather from rumors and all the books he had read so far the king was not a fan of magic and Fated were feared just for the fact that they tended to seem overly powerful when they have been openly viewed by the public, nobles, and royals. Trust had to be built and well it wasn't going to be easy to do in the long run there would be some very hard times for the Fated and magi of this world and he had no issue getting his hands dirty to ensure it happened the right way.

Melda was having a busy day; she had meetings all morning concerning the castle security, she had a class later in the day, and a meeting with Yuki about her Nobility classes. When someone informed her there was a man waiting for her in the barracks, she waved them away, not having time for anyone else today. But they went on, explaining he was there about the open position as Captain of the Mage Guard, Melda took pause. She really needed that position filled... With a grumble, she nodded her head, saying she would be there in 15 minutes. Melda rushed back to her chambers, needing her note book for this one. Upon retrieving it, she headed towards the barracks for her waiting guest. She approached the entrance quietly, taking note of who she saw there. Arthas? She spoke aloud, shocked. He wasn't who she was expecting; she hadn't expected to know who he was at all. When Arthas turned, he would find Melda standing in the entrance, with a book in her hand. She was dressed in a gold painted gown, form fitting with a sheer sash thrown over her shoulder. Golden flowers were embroidered over the entire thing, it was quite the vision. Her silver hair was knotted back at the nape of her neck. So. I assume you're here about the Mage Captain position?

The sound of surprise as his name was uttered upon the opening of the door had him turning in his seat to see Melda standing there, "I thought the name they told me was familiar, good to see you again Melda, or should I call you Advisor Vanya?" He wasn't sure how much protocol she was going to want to use for this meeting where he was basically asking her to move him ahead of the others in line to take a high ranking position. "That would be correct, I'm here to apply for the empty Mage Guard Captain position."
Once she had settled into place he looked at her, "I'm not sure if you've been able to catch me on the training fields while I was at the Arch, but my magic is a combat specialization set of runes. I've been trained in tactics and even took time to brush up on the Novian laws in their current or past states to ensure I can follow them and make sure they are followed. Have to say I like the laws the king passed recently, they will make managing mages easier. It will also be interesting to see how the fated will take some of these laws though I'm sure something can be worked out later to streamline things. Ah sorry I've gone off on a tangent, what would you know of me."

Melda smiled, bowing her head politely. Melda works fine for now. I'm doing well, yourself? She asked, taking a seat on a wooden chair she'd found. She opened her note book and scribbled something down as he began to speak.
I do recall seeing some of your skills here and there in the time we've worked together, so I am impressed in that department. However, there is something we need to address. While its all well and good you agree with our laws and intend to follow them, the matter of you being Fated is still a touchy subject. So you must be aware that should the position land in your hands, you would have to prove yourself more than if you were a native, are you aware of this? She asked carefully, looking him in the eyes.
The reason I say this is simple; His Highness is having difficulties trusting most of the fated, and frankly I can't blame him. Many of those he's come across have done something to attempt to harm him, or wrong him somehow. Not to say I dont trust you, but it is a hurdle you may have to face.

His eyes darkened a little bit as she brought up him being fated, "Where did you hear about my status as one of the fated from Melda....?" He hadn't told her and knew that Adrain wouldn't have told anyone without speaking to him first and well Nyx isn't one to broadcast that information. His tone hadn't changed much though other than dropping slightly from where it had been when he had spoken to her before this.
"Putting that aside for now, though I do expect an answer to my question, There are a number of ways to reassure the King that I won't be a liability to him or the Natives of Teair. I have a feeling anything short of magically binding won't do much to assuage his distrust of us. I can easily draw up a magically binding contract that can bind anyone who signs it to serve the throne and people of Nova."
Taking a moment to settle into the chair a bit more he looked at her again, "From what I can gather from the Arch's library and the grand library here in Nova some of the fated have given the rest of us a bad name. Honestly I'm not surprised as our morals and beliefs are not likely to match up with those held by the native peoples of Teair. The biggest issue right now is that there is no attempt to educate the people brought here by a shunned Demigod on the world they've just been drug into against their will. While I have knowledge of where they are coming into the world I'll not be revealing that to anyone until I can be certain they are not looking to go on a witch hunt. The biggest hurdle for us when we get here is that we are left with nothing to tell use where we are or about where we are. Personally the welcome I got was rather lack luster, I was given a map and let to go on my own way. Luckily for me I had taken time to study an ancient language in the ruins of my world and could read most of the script used here in Teair. Speech was something I was given I guess you could say as a way to blend in to the regular populace. I'm not even going to get into the matters of adjusting to the manna here right now though as most of this is pointless to talk about until relations are on the mend with the natives and fated."

Melda arched a brow. You do a lot of world research, specifically on Novianans and our habits to be even a regular foreigner. Now that was just a suspicion but your reaction just now confirmed it. Sorry to startle you.
As he went on to describe why he was suited for the position, Melda nodded along. He did have some good points, but she wondered if he was over estimating the Kings ability to cope with magic. I dont believe the contract would be necessary, but I'll run it by him of course. However please remember his anxiety with magic runs deep. So while your points are valid, many of those will be overlooked by him, simply because you are mage and he believes he can trust none of them. She responded, carefully phrasing her words.

He had to give her points for figuring out what he was on her own and clever enough to get him to admit it. He didn't make any attempts to interrupt her and listened to everything she had to tell him about what he may encounter should he get this job and have to deal with the king. "He is right to be anxious of mages and their power, we can be very dangerous if not monitored and reigned in when our reach starts to exceed our grasp." He stood up out of the chair as his own instincts were making him a little anxious. He wasn't a fan of staying in one place all the time especially when his back was so open to attack.
Golden eyes looked over at Melda as he took a thermal reading of her, "So that means he either can learn to trust mages who show they can behave or doesn't know about your magic. Interesting either way. Oh don't get me wrong if you've kept it from him it had to be for a good reason and I won't be revealing it." The golden glow would fade after her response to his little train of thought about her and her status in the court.

Melda scribbled in her note book as he responded, taking note of how he seemed to Agree with Noku's stance on Mages. I'm sure he'll be happy to know you agree with him. She commented idly.
She looked up from her book, narrowing her eyes as his own seemed to change in colour. Like they were glowing. Her body tensed as a result, waiting for him to speak. When he did, Melda sighed, bringing a hand up to pinch the bridge of her nose. Yes well. We're working on his trust concerning Mages, and its a slow process. She wrote one more thing down in her book before she snapped it shut.
You will go through a probationary period. In that time you will be tested on various things, and should the results please the King, you will be the official Captian of the Magi Guard. She gave him a curt nod. I wish you luck. You may report to Breton to get any training you may need started.

Arthas made his own mental note before he stood up along with her though kind of blocked her exit from the room for a moment, "Can we be less ambiguous about the time period of this probationary period? Details are a pain but it gives me a set date to ensure the tests are completed by along with how long I'm going to have to deal with extra prying eyes and ears on top of what will undoubtedly be watching me anyway."
He knew of the regent though there were some concerning rumors about his hobbies and temperament towards anyone who gets in his way. He would keep them to himself until he could assess the man himself, while rumors get blow out of proportion there is usually some truth to them. From what he knew of Melda she was fair and most of the gossip about her was xenophobic in nature. He smiled slightly while stepping out of her way when she moved to exit the room and go about her duties, picturing the rumors that were likely to be started about him especially when they learn who and what he is.

Melda arched an eyebrow as he stood in front of her, blocking her way out of the room. He asked his question, which Melda sighed at quitely. Though valid, she was unsure of the answer. Breton could very well have his own agenda... but given that he was asking now, Melda decided on an answer; if Breton had another one in mind, then that's something Arthas would just have to deal with.
"Well. Based on the previous Captain, lets go with two months. Granted, Breton may have other plans for you, but I can only assume the protocol would be the same." She answered with a nod, taking her leave.
He was interesting, she gave him that. She didn't encounter him much at the Arch, but if Adrian had trusted him to teach his students, she saw no current harm in allowing him to run their magi military.. She hoped she wasn't wrong about him. She really did.
