’YUuuuuuuuuck’ Sabels nose scrunched up in disgust as brown mush seemed to seep in-between her toes. She could only pray to the gods, all it was, was muck…judging by the foul odor she may not be that lucky. Her brown robes marking her as an apprentice was tied up via a plain brown cord in a fashion that kept the hem of the robe up at her knees. It didn’t look pretty but it got the job done as she waded through shin deep muck and weeds in search of large toads. So far all she found was damn frogs! But she didn’t need frog slime nooo she needed toad slime. Her long bell shaped sleeves were rolled up to above her elbows. Luckily her novice robes were brown; a little dirt and muck wouldn’t show up to much. Novices and other academy students didn’t get nearly as nice robes as the fully graduated mages. But until she earned her alchemist robe she’d be tolling away practicing what potions she needed. Her teacher had already sent her on an assignment to collect toad scum for a potion she already knew how to make… problem was the rule was find your own ingredients. Students weren’t allowed to just go shop for it….Least they had a week to complete the project…
”Load of bull honky; that’s what it is.” her eyes scanned the murky waters and saw something move. She dove for it; her hands grasping the slippery creature. ”GOtcha!” She pulled it out of the water; in her hands there was a long slippery thing that squirmed in protest…..what ever she just grabbed it certainly was not a toad! She let out a screech and dropped it back into the water and jumped back onto the dry embankment where her shoes and socks were neatly put aside. Breathing heavily she stared at the water, wondering what on earth did she just touch! She rubbed her hands on her robe, wiping the ick off….her afternoon was already turning out to be a complete disaster. Where the hell did one find toads anyways? Certainly they were around the lake?
”…..Perhaps I should have researched the habitat of toads before doing this……” This after all was already turning out to be a waste of time. Worse rain clouds seemed to be filling the once clear skies…….Sabel looked up and frowned deeply. One sucky thing about living on the coast near a mountain range. Storms came on fast. She probably only had a few minutes to find shelter before a torrential down poor made her day even MORE miserable.
