The sun was just coming up, the snow birds were chirping and people were just starting to emerge from their houses. Aria walked briskly along the cobble stone roads of the second district, making her way towards the training grounds which were in the first district. She meant to take shy up on her offer to train her with a staff. Her hair tied up into a braid that coiled around her head. Only stray curly pieces came loose to frame her face.
She wore most of her newly crafted armor, her armor was completely black bax leather. A black hood rested over her head, the leather designed to look like a large crow skull over her head; forming into black a black feather like pattern. It was attached to an intricate bolero jacket with a vine pattern imbedded into the hem. This vine pattern is also sewn into the hem of the hood and all of this is clasped by a dark black metal that was matted in color. She opted not to wear her pauldrons, or her tasset belt. A black leather corset covers her torso over a deep red shirt, its bax leather sewn in a patch work design. It was clasped in the front by the same black metal. A thin vine pattern etched into the hems of the corset as well. Her pants were also made out of this black leather, they had buckles all up either side of her legs. Her feet were covered by boots that just barely went over her knees in a point. Aria also wore leather bracers on her fore arms. They covered her whole fore arm and came out in points over her hand but flexible enough to move. These also had the clasps that could break if needed to. Aria also had a black leather chocker wrapped around her neck; it had a metal plate across her throat. All in all Arias outfit was fairly form fitting and made for the ease of movement without cloth getting in the way.
Aria was carrying her staff, the whole reason for the trip to the training grounds. It was a bit taller than she was made out of a dark grey blue wood that was hard as steel. At the top of the staff, twisted branches formed round a glowing blue gem in the center.
Aria trotted into the training grounds just as the bleary eye soldiers were emerging from their bunks. She looked around for the manly looking red headed woman.

As Aria stands on the training ground she would hear someone shout in a loud command voice. "Alright slackers! Off your lazy asses! Today you're learning something different!" The man shouting was one of the sergeants in charge of training, but next to him stood a man in a long black coat wearing a black hat. The man had one of his usual scowls on and there were deep rings under his eyes from working late into the night and waking up early in the morning for the last who knows how long.
"Today Captain Roland of the Royal Guard has made time in his busy schedule to do some training with you maggots and to give you some experience fighting against an opponent with magic!" She sergeant barks as several of the recruits who recognized Roland came alert and several of the others rolled their eyes assuming this was more posturing like much of what had happened since they joined.
Roland steps forward into the middle of a while chalk circle and rests the tip of his staff against the ground. "It's early and I haven't warmed up, so let's start by doing this two at a time. We will fight until either all of one side is disarmed, or a clean hit has been laid to each member of one of the two sides." He announces in a rasp that seems to have a fair bit of gravel in it.
A dull amethyst glow begins to shine from under the brim of the hat as Roland prepares himself.

Aria tilted her head with curiosity, this seemed like an interesting exercise to start so early in the morning. Aria walked over closer to the group that was gathering. She had only really seen this man close up once and at that point she was an owl. Wait there was that time in the sewers. Aria grinned and stepped closer while waving.
”Good Morning Mr Grumpy guard! Long time no see. How did the whole silk thing go?”

Séanait had spent the last half hour trying to find padded clothing that would suit Aria. It was harder than it looked, since the woman was shorter and differently proportioned from, well, pretty much anyone who had joined the guard in the recent past. Eventually, though, she found what she was looking for. It would be a little long in the body and the sleeves, but it would fit Aria well enough.
As she made her way back up to the training grounds, Séanait grabbed two ashen quarterstaves, each about six feet long. She didn't know if Aria had a staff or not, so she thought it wise to bring along a spare, just in case. Then she went towards the barracks, only hear a bellowing voice and see recruits running about. She sighed and rolled her eyes. Obviously the sergeant in charge of training had just sprung a surprise on them. She made her way there quickly, knowing that she was going to get a tongue lashing for her lateness.
Séanait trotted into the yard a good fifty yards behind the last recruit, padded clothing and staves firmly in hand. At least she could use them as evidence of her intentions for an early morning practice match. That might spare her the worst of the bluster. She wasn't prepared to see the Captain of the Royal Guard standing there, staff in hand and laying down the law about how they would begin training. That wasn't anywhere near as surprising as seeing Aria waving happily at the man and was she...yes, she was insulting him!
With a groan, Séanait stepped into line and watched, waiting for Roland to tear Aria a new one.

As two guards begin to step forward Roland looks up and sees the red haired girl from the underway. He frowns and releases his posture, the two guards who stepped into the circle use this as a chance to attack, but he raises a hand and a powerful blast of raw force suddenly flights both of them out of the circle.
"Sorry, we'll try that again in a minute." He tells the pair, it wasn't fair for him to just blast them away after all. He steps towards Aria and says. "You aren't part of the guard, I'm afraid you will need to leave, the training ground is not open to the public during drill time." He explains in a neutral fashion, he was neither being particularly nice about it, nor was he flaunting his authority, just stating fact.
When he sees Shy running over with a set of the staves. He looks back and forth between the two and closes his eyes for a moment. "Well why don't you work with your friend over there." He says gesturing to Shy. "The point of today's lesson is to make sure they get used to fighting magic, it doesn't matter whose it is." Roland says, unsure of what the little redhead's magic was. She struck him as a fire mage, very chaotic and irreverent.

”I actually showed up for staff practice with Shy here…..Good morning sleepy head”
Aria raised an eyebrow as the grumpy mage changed his tune and suddenly wanted her to stick around…However a frown managed its way on her face when he wanted her to use her magic…..She ran through her list that was likely to be useful in a training exercise and wasn’t likely to kill anyone….. Aria looked over at Shy with a raised eyebrow.
”….Considering your training master has no knowledge of my magical ability or whether I am trained or not I’m questioning….either he doesn’t think I can do very much…or simply doesn’t care for the means in which his students learn. But if its magic training he wants then its magic training he’ll get…”
Aria planted her staff into the ground, and pulled a couple of seeds from the pouch on her belt. She pulled her good up over head, if they were going to be fighting she rather have the reinforced leather around her head. The bird skull décor was as good as a helmet.
“Prepare yourself”
Aria whipped her hand out and an obsidian dagger flung out from her sleeve directed at Shy, it was aimed at a non-vital area if she happened to miss it. It was followed by a rapid growing vine that caught up to the projectile and wrapped itself around a loop on the hilt of the dagger. If Shy had dodged the blade it would be coming back from behind as it was yanked back by Aria. The dagger would be a very familiar one, considering there captain used the same set. Aria had similar daggers attached to her waist however these sets had sapphires imbedded into them.
”Now I suppose I’m suppose to be giving a lesson, right grumpy mage? Well I guess the lesson here would be mages don’t all use their magic in the same way. Some like to use magic as a way to back up their skills already. It gives us a means to be much more creative with our attacks….and defense...in a normal fight your already keeping track of certain elements such as where the personas hands, feet, and weapons are going...magic just adds a whole new list of things you need to watch out for.”
Aria grabbed the staff with her free hand and swung the gem end down to the ground in a large sweeping motion. The ground quickly becoming slick with ice in a good six foot radius from where ever it touched.

Roland wasn't particularly keen on having Aria there, which didn't seem to bother the red head in the slightest. There were a couple of quiet sniggers from the other recruits, which Séanait ignored, and then Roland surprised her by allowing Aria to join in the sparring. Séanait fell out of line and came around to the circle, still holding her spare staff and padded armour, and shrugged when Aria hinted that Roland might not care if she got seriously injured. That's what you got for going up against unknown magic, so why should training be any different?
Aria went through some preparations and didn't seem to want the padded armour or spare staff, so Séanait chucked those aside and prepared for the fight. Probably that rather, well, complimentary armour that Aria wore was magic and would resist the impact of the staff well enough. She started to circle around Aria, not letting herself be caught in one place too long, and began to spiral in towards Aria.
The knife was a surprise, but not one that caught Séanait off guard. Warned by Aria's hand movement, Séanait moved to one side. She'd been holding her staff in the high guard position, with her right hand on the butt of the shaft and, as the dagger and vine went past, Séanait grabbed hold of the vine and yanked as hard as she could, preparing to hit Aria with if she stumbled forward. It would be an awkward blow, without much force behind it, but it should serve as a warning.
