Training - Round two. [Kail]

Serenity had asked Kail to train her while he was still forging the sword she now held in her hand. It had been a few days since then, and she'd worked on the little bit that Rivers had shown her within that time. Really, all she knew was the standing pose he'd shown her. They'd focused more on magic than anything else, so Kail would have a lot to teach her. Serenity was quite pleased Kail had agreed to help her, hoping that this time together would strengthen their friendship, and remove any awkward bits that may be lingering after all the drama. 

Serenity had arrived a bit before Kail, remembering how beautiful the lake was, and wanting to take it in again before starting. She'd heard it was called the Crystal Lake, and she thought it was very well named. She stood, silent, staring at the lake. Her sabre was in her hand, hanging by her side. Her hair was down now, not yet having been put up for the training. It blew softly in the wind, bits of sunlight hitting it here and there. But all she was focused on, was the shimmering water. She wouldn't hear Kail if he walked up behind her.

Kail was not sure how to exactly train Serenity persay since he had to learn while in the heat of combat. But he still felt obligated to give her a few ideas. So he disided to wear the dragon leather armor and brought his shield with Sting hidden in it. He also had his long sword as well as his dragon bone bracelets. His pants were the same ones he wore to the gallows fight. The blond sees Serenity by the lake he then sees that she was in lala land and was not going to sneak up on her. "Hey Serenity you wanted me to teach you a few things" he called out and pulled his hair back into a low ponytail. To make sure that it would not get into his eyes while fighting or demonstrating something to the woman. He also stayed a safe distance just in case that she got spooked and stabbed him or flinged something his way. If Serenity did look at Kail, he looked like he was ready for a battle with his attire. Again he was going with safety first then get seriously hurt by something.

Serenity blinked, coming out of her daze, and turned her head to look at Kail. She smiled when she saw him, happy he was ready to go.

Yes! Anything really, so long as I’m not just flailing this around when I’m fighting. She lifted the sabre and smirked, hoping he’d find the humour in that thought- Serenity, flailing around like a ditz with a sword in her hand. Ridiculous.

Serenity placed the sabre on the grass for a moment, still not having purchased a sheath, and wound her hair up on her head, tying it in place. Some strands fell out, but for the most part, the bun stayed put. She looked Kail over again, and saw he came well prepared. She wasn’t sure what he had in mind for teaching her, but she’d take anything she could get.

So whats first? She picked up the sabre once more with her right hand.

"Alright so what do you know on your weapon? And do you know anything previously before today. I don't know too much on how to teach someone. But I can show you some tricks I know though" said Kail as he wanted to try and start this off as easy as he could. He did not have a fencing sword like the blade he made for Serenity. But he would be able to use his long sword to try show her a few things. He was going to show her how to implement magic into her fighting. Like how he did with some of his weapons and other things he has seen while in Nova. But he had slightly thicker blades and weapons compared to the rapier. Again though he would make do with what they had. He walked over with a smile on his face as this was something new for him to do. "Oh and all of this? I want to be safe then sorry, if you know what I mean" he said and cracked his neck a few times to get ready.

Serenity shrugged. I went training with Roxanne and Rivers a day or two ago, but we focused on magic. The only thing he really showed me concerning weapons was how to stand with it. She demonstraited, standing normal, then leaning forward, raising her right arm, pointing the sword out with her hand. She stood straight again, smiling sheepishly. That’s it.. I think that still needs work though. She fiddled with the hilt of the sword, and looked down.

Honestly, I know that teaching someone how to use the sword you made me, is different than the sword you wield, but I just want to learn how to defend myself with it— I’m sure I’ll pick up things along the way on my own as well. Though infusing magic into this could be greatly beneficial. I working on ice magic currently, and a bit of fire. She grinned enthusiastically, liking this idea.

Also, I don’t blame you. I’d feel terrible if I accidentally hurt you.

"Ok, but a proper stance is always a good foundation even before picking up a blade" said Kail as he pulls off his shield and sets it on the ground. He then hears what Serenity learned from Roxy and Rivers on the magic part and he gave a nod. Seeing that they just focused on using magic with her, he had a bit of work ahead of him. "Ok now here is the thing, your weapon is excellent against lightly armored opponents like myself wearing leather, cloth, or chainmail. But the thing is, your blade is thin and against someone with a thicker blade could break it apart. So be careful so accurate attacks are going to be your thing. But if you land a attack on someone. Most of your strikes will be thrust attacks but if you can slash at someone do so if you have an opening" he said and got into a stance very much like the one that Serenity had. But his was a bit more defensive looking with his long sword.

"Now when doing a thrust with your sword make them very quick strikes" he said and then starts jabbing several times with his blade. They were a bit heavy looking but he was using a slightly more heavier weapon. "But if you see an opening for your self. Go with a heavy thrust and use your full arm to do the strike" he said and showed a powerful thrust attack that went into a rather large rock. It caused the rock to crumble and break apart. "So show me what you got" he said and hoped that his demonstration was good enough.

Serenity stood still and nodded as he spoke. So she couldn’t be to hard with her weapon or it would break.. Good to know. Steer clear of heavy armoured people. Thrust attacks would be more what she would be doing, only slashing if she had the chance— luckily she recognized these terms, but now it was a matter of if she could do them.

She watched closely as he moved into a stance and demonstraited. She knew that what he was doing would be slightly different, as he head a far heavier sword. She noted how he used his whole arm and shoulder, his whole body engaged in what he was doing. She would have to work on that. Serenity blinked and her mouth fell open in surprise as the rock crumbled down and she looked to Kail gaping.

You know that would be near impossible with my sword. There’s no way I’m going to smash a rock with it. She blinked a few more times, and went into the pose Rivers had taught her. Her arm was still sore from said training, it having only been two days before. She mimicked what Kail had done, thrusting her sword forward, but she wasn’t nearly as fast as he was with it, despite her’s being lighter in weight. Her form was good, but her speed needed work— her upper body needed to be more engaged and work with her. Serenity’s body may look nice, but she wasn’t exactly fit, nor did she have an abundant amount of muscle.

"Well if anyone trains hard enough anyone can do that. But you can cheat slightly with magic as a example here" said Kail as he watched Serenity use her rapier and saw that she was not acostom to fighting in general. Compared to someone like himself who had a general idea on what to do. He then shows the braclets he had on and then uses the fire gem. The blade glowed now as if it would melt down at any second and spots a large bolder. A bit bigger then himself. The blond then does a diagonal slash and then the blade cools off. The bolder slides off sideways and then makes a thundering thud on the ground as Kail sheaths his sword. "I know that you have a fire gem. Due to that you can actually go through heavy armor with a thrust attack. Even if your not strong, like what I just did here" he said and walked over to Serenity.

"You just have to be creative and think outside of the box. This just stuff I know from various things I have seen and watched. So, how about some questions if your still well confused" said Kail as he was doing his best to teach what he knew. And that he may have went too far or perhaps did not explain things well enough.

Serenity nodded and watched what he did. She hadn’t realized he was using music to crush the bolder. She took a moment, listening to him speak. She didn’t currently have questions, but she took a moment to think about what to do.

She did have a fire gem, in her necklace… But she also had an ice one on her wrist. She walked to two nearby rocks, not far from where they bolder had been. She had an idea forming in her mind, and a smirk appeared on her plump lips. With a glance at Kail, she mimicked the movements he had towards one of the rocks, summoning the power from her fire gem to do so. The rapier went through it, like butter it seemed, glowing red hot. Without wasting a moment, she spun onto the other rock, summoning the ice gem this time, and she saw the blade turn blue. It hit the rock, and the rock froze over. The sword hadn’t broke it, but the magic had transferred over and turned the rock to ice. Without missing a beat, Serenity kicked out with her heel and smashed the rock. Granted it wasn’t large, as a larger rock would have required more leg strength to kick to pieces.

Serenity turned to Kail, bits of hair falling into her face. Well that worked out well.

Kail gave a loud wissle as he saw Serenity pick up a bit of some of his tricks. He sees one rock get hit with the fire gem and get demolished and then she shifts to using the ice gem. Using the subzero tempratures of the ice gem to make the rock become brittle and break apart. "Not bad but lets focus on using your blade just try and follow my motions. Once you get that we are going to spar a bit later" he said and showed some of the things he did with his sword. The blond had to adjust to using more of a fencer stance and thrusts with the sword as well as slashes. They would be about equal as the weight of his long sword would equal out to Serenity's untrained body and unskilled abilities. This would be a few hours to get Serenity at least warmed up to fight in a sparing match. "Ok you think your ready to spar or do you need more time"he said to the redhead. As he was pretty much ready to go. Kail did think about if he should just use his longsword, or his sword and shield. Or perhaps mix things up, but he was not sure at Serenity's sate right now.

Serenity grinned at his response. Admit it! I believe that is was people from your time would call… Badass? She laughed and rolled out her shoulders. Sounds like a plan. Show me what to do. She focused hard and did her best to follow along. She screwed up now and again, needing more guidance from him, criticism and practice, but her concentration did not waver. She complained here and there, as any woman from her time would, but it was plain to see how hard she was trying. By the time Kail asked her if she was ready, there was a sheen of sweat on her porcelain skin.

Uhm— yes of course.. She took a breath. Just give me a moment to breathe and we can continue. She placed her sword down and sat in front of the water, pulling her hair out of her ponytail and letting it loose for a moment. a slight wind blew around her, causing the loose strands to cover her face, forcing her to pull it back again, but before she tied it up, she ran her fingers through it, relaxing her mind and her breathing. She remembered the training she’d done with Rivers and Roxy, and how she’d had to focus on the elements, the mana, and the energy in and around her. She could feel it now, that buzzing feeling coming from the earth below her.

Tying it back up into a floppy bun type thing, she stood, picking up the sword as she did. Her pants were bunched up to her knees from sitting, and because she had her back facing the blond, he would see two large zagged scars running across the backs of her knees. They weren’t old scars, that much would be easy to tell, as they were still pink and puffed out. She faced Kail and smiled calmly. Alright, time to watch the woman fail. She shrugged, discouraged that she could do this. Magic she seemed to have a talent for, but physical movement and fighting… she had a feeling she would freeze up if she were in such a situation.
