Serenity walked through the door to the house with a sigh, wanting nothing more than to collapse on any couch or chair. Her feet were absolutely throbbing from the heels she'd worn that night. Not that she would have changed her decision, she knew that they matched her costume beautifully, as black always matched with black. She had long since removed her mask, finding it more tedious than anything else, constantly having to adjust the tie at the back so it wouldn't mess with her hair, but it kept sliding down her face. Serenity walked to their common room, lit a candle, and fell into the couch. Normally she found the thing horribly uncomfortable, but she was to sore to care in that moment. Without sitting up, Serenity took off her satin gloves, allowing them to fall to the ground next to her, doing the same with her shoes, and putting down her mask.
Normally, she could handle much more than what this night had held for her, but it had just been so long since she'd had to dress and act in such a way, with the dancing and the formalities, that it had drained her. So much of it was like her home, yet different in small ways, like the dancing. She yawned, rolling over onto her back, being slightly careful not to ruin her dress. She had taken a few days to make it, gathering fabrics from various sources. Her hair was still done up and was pushed uncomfortably into her scalp, but she hardly noticed. Serenity closed her eyes, sighing again. The night had not only been long, but interesting... There had been Aria, requesting that Serenity come back to the castle in the morning to speak with her, which was odd enough on its own... But then there was Rivers, once again causing her to question everything. He wanted her to think about him as a person... Okay.
Rivers, from what she knew, was kind. He meant well, most of the time. Under the influence he was very forward and flirtatious... Sober he was very forward and flirtatious... He was brave, a good teacher, patient, smart, and had more stories to tell than anyone she knew. He had lived many lives it seemed, and thus was very wise. She knew he had a different view of the world than she did, and liked to travel, but that didn't bother her. It was just his nature... But he even had her questioning that tonight, with those words... Why did he always have to confuse her further? She knew what her feelings were, and she knew he had rights to question them, but to think they were simply because he helped her... Serenity growled lightly, rolling onto her side. Asshole... She mumbled, opening her eyes to the dimly lit room around her. Her hazel eyes were soft, glowing lightly in the light of the burning flame. Despite her insult, she knew she didn't think of him like that. She couldn't 100% describe to him, or anyone, what it was that drew her to him. She knew it was different than the infatuation she had with Kail. That was a wish for home. This was different. It felt warm, and scary. It made her heart beat really fast, and her face turn bright red in ways it never had before. It made her question the world around her, and how she viewed people. It made her want to be nice to people, because he had shown her kindness. It made her stronger.
Serenity stayed on her side as she was, completely awake, but unwilling to move just yet. She didn't think anyone else was home, as she had seen them all at the Ball, so she wasn't to worried about looking as she did, hair a bundled mess on her head, dress winkled around her, shoes on the floor, and a bit of makeup smeared down under her eyes where she'd teared up a bit before getting home, frustrated with how the night had gone in the beginning. Dancing with Rivers had been like a dream, but the words she couldn't escape from, and she knew now that she didn't want to. If she wanted to be with him, she would do as he asked, and would more than likely have to get used to the confusion his words brought. She just hoped that one day he would learn to explain himself a bit better.
