The Guard Captain was furious. Garrett had just received the message from the castle by the time he realized he was the last to respond. Plus word had spread that the king was missing from the castle! The entire barracks were in a uproar as soldiers scrambled to suit up and grab their weapons from the armory. The soldiers lined up out side in the training ground's court yard with entire bodies covered in iron armor. Steel pikes at arms as they chanted out for their kingdom and crown. Garrett was not far behind his squad finishing up his own suiting as he clipped on his maroon Guard Captain's cloak. Fully armed and suited in a steel and leather chest plates, black leather pants and black leather boots with steel plating... The hue of the metal stained gunpowder black and the leather embroidered with floral stitching and dyed to be the color of charcoal. For once Garrett looked menacing as he steadily walked out into the court ground in front of his troops. Holding his military stance as he stared at the lot with almost a disappointed scowl.
" Prepare yourself!! We ride to the North Gate!" Garrett shouted, UN-sheathing his fae blades from the holsters on his back and pointing towards the north. The troops shouted with Garrett's battle cry and followed their Captain to the North Gate. Their boots stomping the ground in a melody of marching metal. Once again Garrett leading his soldiers into battle to defend the Gate from what he had received word of; A horde of the un-dead. His eyes focused on the road ahead as they approached the North Gate. Already abandoned by the two guards who had taken post their earlier that day. The gate's closed, however barely kept at bay as the massive door's groaned and bulged. The undead had started to push against the closed gate, using their bodies to try and force the massive door's open.
" Shit. " Garrett grumbled under his breath, whistling to his soldier's following closely behind him. " Don't let them pass the Gate! " Garrett yelled out, picking up his pace as he ran up to the guard tower post, climbing the ladder up to the guard post gate over hang. Once on top of the tower, Garrett was able to see the hordes of un-dead below. A disgusted look swept over his features as he knitted his brow at the sight below. His troop desperately trying to hold the gate's doors shut, while his archers climbed up the towers behind him. Their face's petrified with fear as they readied their bows and arrows and aimed it at the un-dead below. " Aim for the head..." Garrett spoke out, his eye not leaving the scene going on down below him as he hopped over the rail and dangled over the side of the tower. Then dropping down to the grown below, landing on two un-dead men and stomping their skulls into the ground.
" That's two. "

Why were they all so weak? Why couldn't they march up to the gates and face this foe head on? Why do I care? The weak would only get in the way after all. At least that is what she was thinking as she followed a man who seemed to be part of the city's military, he was headed to the north gate and found him to be a bit interesting. He was at least heading off to fight the hoard of undead closing on the gate, unlike all the cowards she was wading through to follow him. To her surprise he lept from the wall to land on top of two zombies.
She liked his style for entering this conflict, her only instinct right now was to do the same. So why the hell not, she drew both of her swords and dropped off the wall as well. She landed on the other side from him though not on top of any enemies. He had told his archers to aim for the heads, which meant he had a good head on his shoulders at least where it came to tactics. She was upright within seconds her swords flashing through the air as she decapitated the undead near her. Sure she would normally wade into the middle of them but the doors needed to be cleared of their attackers so she made her way slowly through the hoard towards the doors.
To anyone looking on at this they would think she was not much of a fighter due to the damage she was taking from her sides and behind her but all in all it was for a reason. The pain was building slowly and she needed it right now since she wasn't angry enough nor did she hate the undead around her yet. There was a look of crazed amusement in her eyes as she made her way through the mob picking up speed as she went, the doors still her goal.
"Try to keep up boy."

Atop the wall while the soldiers below were occupied with the undead, Adrain stood at the high point of the wall, standing on a raised stone patch barely large enough for him to stand normally upon. The only visible clothing about his body was a black cloak that draped over his forehead and eyes, leaving only tufts of his white hair visible. Ever since he had returned from the Forever Forest, he had been reclusive, taking a hiatus from active teaching at the academy. He left the reasons his own: ever since that gem went into his body, many strange things had been coming to his mind in sleep and new magics became known to him.
It was a vision of this invasion that brought him here. It was unclear whether this was a dream of a normal sort of a vision, but as soon as he heard a clamor in town the truth was known to him. He looks out at the field in front of the gate, up at the cloud. At a glance, it looked like raw Caster's Sorrow in a cloud form...the power to interact with Sorrow so directly would indicate a very powerful opponent was attacking the castle. He would try to push the cloud back and dispel it, but the more pressing and immediate issue was the horde attacking the castle.
Only twelve guards were present, with one of the leads pressing the attack and giving command. Adrain reaches a hand up and manifests a crystal, making it disappear and teleporting to one of the other head teachers at the Academy, telling them to prepare defenses and be ready to move in to the city with Volunteers and guards to help fend off an invasion. Protecting the students was a high order, but hopefully there were some brave instructors willing to intervene directly, realizing the importance of protecting the innocent and the common folk.
Looking down at the undead horde, he noted one of the guards jumped directly into the fray with a sea moving slowly into position. The man below was a capable fighter and seemed able to handle himself in the short term against the weaker undead.
As he raises his hands and begins to channel the mana through his being, an unnatural wind surrounds him as the strings of energy and mana come together. He would lend his abilities to thinning out the horde to the point the guards could defend safely at which point he would try to destroy the red fog.
A bright light would crackle overhead as mana fills the air. Red glyphs appear along Adrain's hands as he chants in arcane language. Red thunder could be heard as the spell comes to fruition and a rain of fire begins to pelt a large section of the undead further into the field, away from the gate itself such to not risk setting them ablaze. Larger balls periodically fall and explode among the masses. He had to trust that the guardsmen would handle the closest threats in the window the firestorm would provide, hopefully allowing siege weaponry to be placed to fend off the seemingly endless horde.

As the guards collided with the zombies who had forced their way through the gate two stone lions suddenly leap from wall crushing several of the zombies and beginning to lay out the others with their stone claws and fangs. A pair small twin glowing silver orbs emerge from a nearby shadow and the captain of the mage and royal guard appear on the scene. In place of his usual long leather coat he wore a long black coat with a high collar hiding his neck and a dull glow of both human and divine magic suffused him.
"Let the gates be closed." He says and he raises a hand in front of himself closing it into a fist. As he does the stone of the ground rises up, becoming a thicker stronger gate and sealing the breaching hoard away from the town. "Garrett, can you handle the stragglers? I am going to the wall to begin to show these cretins why no one has permission to attack this city."
As his words are spoken a surge of divine energy surrounds him and he floats off the ground landing on the wall and looking out over the incoming hoard. Roland looked to his side at Adrain and nodded. "It is good to see the academy has begun participating, time to put those firebrands it trained to good use." As he speaks Roland raises his hands in front of himself and begins to gather power for a large and more powerful spell. The captain was back in full form, rested and recovered for the first time in months.

A strange scream suddenly interrupts the on going hordes that shuffled towards the city. The undead stopping in their tracks as the scream travels and shakes the earth in a steady rumble. The undead stood motionless, not daring to take another step towards the great city gates. The rumbling only lasting a few seconds after the scream fades. A eerie calm settling in to those who notice.
Fear and confusion grip at the guards that stood post; Their hearts pounding within their chests as the undead began to remain in place, just standing within the mist as if waiting for something to come. Some of the soldiers had even mentioned rumors of the King's disappearance at the castle. This stillness only lasted a few minutes before finally there were sign's of movement; The hordes beginning to move along with the mist as they shuffled towards the the south-east of the outer wall.
(( South Gate and East Gate will now have increased undead. ))
