BIRTHDATE: 12/13

APPEARANCE: If Séanait was a man, she'd be a very handsome man. She stands at just over 5'8", slightly above the average height of a man in her part, and her body is lithe yet muscular. Her brilliant, neck length red hair frames a freckled, handsome face that is neither really male nor female. As a result, when dressed in armour, very few people realise that Shy is, in fact, a woman. Her voice, deeper than most women's voices, doesn't help much either.
On occasion, though, Séanait will want to be seen as a woman and, as such, she had a dress that is low cut and designed to make the most of her very limited cleavage. The dress is fairly plain and often crumpled, but is made of good linen and is dyed a blue so dark that it's almost black. The colour, is, of course, a joke. In the part of the world in which she resided before coming to Teair, the colour is known as "Death-Blue" and is often worn by soldiers going into battle.
PERSONALITY: Séanait is hard to pin down. On one hand, she's a tactile extrovert who is pretty much a stereotypical infantry soldier. She drinks hard, fights and and sleeps around a lot. A veteran of six campaigns, and having grown in a culture where crossborder and inter town raids were a way of life, she's hardened to violence and can quite happily sit down on a dead body to eat if there's nowhere more convenient. She also isn't too fond of letting enemies live, especially if they've killed someone she knew, and is highly pragmatic when it comes down to killing someone or letting them live.
Despite this vicious, battle hardened side, Séanait has a softer side. She loves learning languages - and is quite good at it too - and she's utterly dedicated to her partner, Breasal. Although they're not married and she rarely sleeps with him, Séanait loves Breasal deeply and would do anything for him. She also finds her heart torn at the sight of children who have had their families wiped out or who have been taken far away from anyone they know. Given a choice, she'd adopt all of them but, alas, that's impossible for someone in her line of work.

BIOGRAPHY: Séanait was born the sixth or seven children, although only three other siblings survived past the age of five. Her family were quite wealthy farmers who owned several slaves and, as such, Séanait had a considerable amount of free time. She mostly spent this playing with her brothers and the other boys of the farm.
Séanait was twelve when her father was killed during a cattle raid, and this started a blood feud with her extended family and the extended family of the killer. It was about this time that Séanait first picked up a bow and found that she excelled at archery. She would go into the woods for hours on end, hunting and tracking wild game for her family's pots.
The feud boiled slowly for more than a year, until Séanait was halfway through her fourteenth year. She'd found that she was attracted to girls as well as boys and would often slip off with one of her cousins who felt the same way. Unfortunately, her cousin's brothers found out about this and, after "correcting" their sister's behavior, the came after Séanait to do the same. They came upon her as she hunted, and she fled. They pursued, and so she fled home.
Séanait found no help at home. Her brothers had gone to aid another branch of the family fend off raiders, and her mother and sister were no real help. Some of the slaves made a half-hearted stand, but as soon as one was killed they all scattered. Séanait's cousins yelled abuse at her, and taunted her with what they'd done, and she saw the look of shock and disappointment on the faces of her mother and sister. They blamed her for what was happening. Séanait snapped. She killed her cousins and fled with what few possessions she could manage to take, looking to get as far away as possible before any pursuit was sent after her.
She disguised herself by cutting her hair, binding her breasts and dressing as a boy. The disguise was so effective, in fact, that she was conscripted by the army of King Caoimhín as they marched to fight King Iarfhlaith. There she met another reluctant conscript, Breasal.
Breasal was a dour, withdrawn boy about her age, but four inches shorter. He had nothing but a knife, not even a blanket. So, out of pity, Séanait shared what she had with him. They grew close as the armies maneuvered around each other, neither really wanting to fight. They shared everything. Blankets, food, loot and weapons stolen or borrowed. They developed a strong friendship that developed over the years into love, despite feeling little sexual attraction for each other.
Eventually, the two armies clashed, and Caoimhín lost. Wounded, they fled the field with a small amount of money and some weapons that others had dropped. These they sold and were then able to afford to travel to Werraland.
In Werraland, Séanait and Breasal found that Caoimhín had fled there as well, and was petitioning King Herebeorht for leave to recruit men so that he could retake his throne. Herebeorht's bastard son, Earl Wulfbeorht, had pledged his support for King Caoimhín and was recruiting soldiers. Séanait and Breasal, finding no better work available, signed on with Wulfbeorht as part of the first Thusend (thousand) he raised, which would later be known as the "Red" Thusend.
Over the next five years, Wulfbeorht and his Thusands took not only Caoimhín's kingdom, but the whole of the Silver Isle, conquering under the banner of Werraland. When Caoimhín protested, he was charged with treason and arrested.
During these campaigns, Séanait rose to command a fiftig (platoon) of fifty men, while Breasal became a tienealdor (squad leader) and acted as her second. They were marching back to a port so that they could be deployed against an enemy on Werraland's western border when Séanait was suddenly plucked out of her own time and place and deposited in Teair.

Aketon
Description: This aketon has been made from fourteen layers of quilted linen and is faced with elk hide. It offers some protection by itself, but is most effective when worn underneath mail.
ABILITIES:
In Séanait's world, there are those who attract the fractured remains of Fate. These random threads coalesce around the person and held together by them, as though they were a weft. Though those who are "Wefts" are unaware of it, their interactions with the scatters threads of Fate grants them abilities beyond that of a normal human. Séanait is one such Weft.
Ability 1: Séanait is deadly accurate with a bow and rarely misses. She can, for instance, put an arrow through a man's eye at a hundred paces seven times out of ten.
Ability 2: Séanait has the strength and stamina of a many slightly bigger and heavier than herself, making her physically a match for most men she encounters.
COMBAT: Séanait can fight with spear and shield in a line, or with a langseax and shield in a line, or with langseax and shield by herself or with her spear by itself. She can loose an arrow every six seconds, brawl with the best of them, command a fiftig of fifty men, march thirty miles and then help build a fort at the end of it. She can scout, lay ambushes, break out of ambushes, and forage supplies sufficient for the needs fo the army while leaving enough so that the farmers won't starve to death.
