It was haunting. She recalls the memory, still fresh and burning in her mind. She knocked quietly at his door, entering a moment later when she heard no response; she felt comfortable doing so. He was, after all, her God son. They had been quite close during his childhood, but now more then ever as they shared their work as Noku's two advisers. It had been just after supper, having forgotten to mention something to him while they had eaten, she tracked him back to his chambers. What she saw when she opened the door caused her to smile. He was always so cute when he was sleeping, laying on his back, with his limbs sprawled out around him like a fussing child. So innocent and pure.
She approached his bed, moving to wake him. It was far to early to sleep, but he must have been tired. It had been a long day of meetings, and frankly she didn't blame him. She sat beside him on the bed and pushed some hair from his face. Theo darling, wake up for a moment. She said softly. After a moment, she rubbed his arm, shaking him lightly. Theo? Theodore, this game was old when you were a child, I see no reason to play it again now that you're a full grown adult.. She said sternly, her voice raising in volume slightly. More moments passed and she grew more frantic, now sitting on her knees atop his bed, shaking her God son in her arms. THEO! PLEASE WAKE UP! She cried, minutes having gone by without a single sound or movement from his body. Tears streamed down her face as she clutched him to her chest, rocking back and forth softly as she sobbed. GUAAAAARDS!!! She screamed, unable to move.
The guards had burst into the room, and from there it was all a blur of questions and tears, most of which she can't remember. From there she went to Noku's office, the guards having pulled Theo's body from her arms and laying it back down in his bed, ushering her out of the room. She didn't knock. She didn't say a word. She went through the doors, her face red and burning with tears and walked straight up to Noku, the only other man who she thought of like a son. He had been one of two you see, Theo being the other. She pulled him into her arms and cried more. Barely getting out an explanation for what she had just witnessed.
Three days later she stood at the foot of his bed, his body made to be presentable for those who came to say goodbye. Her normal icy demeanor was gone, replaced by a shattered look and heartbroken eyes. Her normally tightly pulled back hair was left down, a mid-back length mass of silver waves. She was dressed in a black down, skintight sleeves running down her arms to her wrists, fabric clinging to her shoulders and dipping into a heart neckline, the hem floor length. Her hand was clutching that of another woman, who leaned against her racking with sobs, another younger woman standing behind her, holding the crying woman's shoulder. His mother and sister. Melda's best friend and God daughter. Together the cried, looking down at the young man they loved dearly, laying cold in his bed. It wouldn't be long now, until more of his friends and family began to join them...
This is the funeral for Duke Theodore Edmund Bankes. It will start with a viewing within his Chambers for people to say goodbye to his physical form, and investigate him lightly if they wish (so long as they dont actually move him.) Once everyone has said their farewells, guards will take the body and move it to the catacome to be buried, while the guests retire to the Gardens to commemorate him.
